I wanted to switch, but I was afraid using an ecig would just be like sucking in air, and I always liked the feeling of the smoke going in (though I hated the coughing it was starting to bring with it). I happened to run into a guy who was vaping in a restaurant (this was 6 years ago, before the anti-vaping stuff), and asked him if you could feel anything when you inhaled. He told me you definitely could, especially with higher nic. I purchased my first vape shortly thereafter, took my first puff, felt the throat hit, and thought "I can do this!" I was right! :thumb:

My first vape was a convenience store cig-a-like 510 connection with the first generation of 306 atomizers you slid a cartridge over top of. Was a decent vape for the power it had at the time out of those weak 510 cig-a-like batteries, taste wasn't bad, it was bareable, but my next reaction was to the throat sensation, that chemical tingle in on the tongue and at the back of the throat. Began dual using, vape at home, smoked while out and about for about 6 months before my first Ego Battery with a CE4 Stardust Clearomizer, after that it was a long tumble down the rabbit hole after that.

What went through your head as you took your first vape? what was your initial reaction.

My initial reaction was that I must be doing something wrong.. lol.. I was coughing hard with each puff, figured it was user error somehow.

Looked it up online and someone said that you have to concentrate on how your inhaling, because vaping and smoking aren't 100% alike. They said take a puff off your cigarette and concentrate on exactly how you take a drag and inhale, then take a puff off your vape the exact same way, and to go back and forth between your lit cigarette and your vape pen til you are vaping the same way you smoke..so.. I did that..

It helped a lot actually, although I still coughed some until I got used to vaping and got a lot of the crud out of my chest.. But, if I remember right the very first thing that went through my head was Holy Crap!

Meet with a group of friends every Sat and Sun mornings for coffee. One of them showed up one morning with an ego styled battery and a clearomizer saying he hadn't smoked a cigarette in a week. Went that afternoon to a local vape shop and bought the exact same setup (an iclear 16 as I remember) and some "tobacco flavored" juice.

Coughed a little early on but still, surprisingly to me, the last cigarettes I smoked were the two I had on the way to that vape shop 3-1/2 years ago. Used that setup for a couple month before starting to upgrade my mods and tanks.

Much like everyone else my first was a cigalike 8 years ago & it didn't work, I smoked for many years then got an Evod 4 years ago. That was just average & then I got my first mod, believe it was a curve 2 but I knew I'd stick at it when I got the kanger subox, removable batteries. At the time i was astonished, I didn't get my first dual one til last year & it was the dripbox 160, great mod but rubbish atty. I got a tsunami rda yesterday though & now I am using it for the first time in months.
I want a better sqounking device!

So I was a little different then most. I had mostly quit using gum, though I was still smoking about a pack every 2 weeks, I just couldn't give up the smoking. At the time, I quit because my new stepkids both have very bad asthma and even the remaining residue on my clothing would give them trouble. I used to change into my smoking clothes in the garage in a MN winter and go outside to have a smoke (ya it may have been extreme, but they had a hard time with it).

So there I was in in the tobacco store Feb 1st to buy my pack of smokes. They had a deal going on for 2 Ego Twists and 4 clearomizers for $89 ($30 off!) and a couple of 15ml of juice. I just said screw it and bought one. I set it up in the shop, took my first pull and found satisfaction for the first time in months. I knew this was the best money I have ever spent.

It took a couple of months but I found out that the vapor didn't trigger the asthma so I was able to stay warm and not have to change clothing anymore!

Well I definitely have come far from the Ego Twists! Made my way up to Mechs, Sub ohms Crazy coils and have finally settled on Squonking (both unregulated and TC) and a modest .5 to .8 ohm simple coil. And went from 24ml Nic down to 6ml with a hope of being at least at 3ml by the end of the year. It has been a great journey and one I am glad to have made. I found this forum during research on where to go after I was ready to step up from the Egos and have met many great people here! I am very grateful for all the advice that I have been given over the years!

I've got into sqounking too, I had a dripbox 160 but the atty was terrible.
However no sense in wasting the mod so got a decent rda yesterday an it vapes well.
I'm glad you have started your journey & yeah through past year I've gotten some great advice on here.

I started on 24mg too but over the years got down to 6ml which works great with sub ohming :)

My first was M403 (one on the left below) and then M402 and so on.
And my thoughts were "I am there":

I wasn't actually planning to quit smoking at the time. I bought an eGo starter kit with some 24mg menthol liquid, just to try it out. I managed to choke down the first couple of puffs without having a coughing fit.
I thought "Hey, I like the flavor, but the smoke is a little harsh. This will take a few days to get used to." I kept using it, because the flavor really WAS better than the cigarettes I was smoking at the time. About a month later, I bought a Gravity twist, and a PT2 from the same shop.
When I got back to my car with my new toy, I threw out the pack of cigarettes cigarettes I had bought with that eGo starter kit, still half unfinished. I had quit smoking, completely by accident, and without even realizing I had done so

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories. It was pretty much the same for me, stepping stones. I started off with cigalikes and worked my way all the way up to a provari..which was the magic moment for me to completely stop smoking. The first time i tried a cigalike it knocked me down and i coughed, but it gave me hope that i could quit smoking and use this as an alternative. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to completely get me off the smokes. I then figured there must be something better out there and started doing some research and to my surprise there was a whole world of nicer setups. It didn't happen right away and went through alot of bad experiences with egos and the such, leaking and spitting liquid in my mouth, plus the inconsistent draws. I almost gave up a few times. I finally decided to drop the money and get a provari with a kabuki tank. It was well worth the money! no leaking or spitting liquid in my mouth and smooth and consistent draws every time. Boy it's been a long road getting it right but well worth it.
