Wotofo COG MTL RTA

Hi ECF members, In this review i take a look at the Cog MTL RTA from Wotofo. The Cog MTL RTA was supplied for the purpose of this review by Antonio from Wotofo.

WOTOFO COG MTL RTA

Introduction

Over the last 4 years Wotofo have grown into one of the giants in vaping manufacturing bringing us countless popular RDA's and RTA's and a few devices that haven't been too shabby. The Cog is their latest MTL RTA and another collaboration with Matt aka "Suck My Mod" which offers a lightweight transparent design and innovative cog (gear) driven airflow design. MTL vapers would of been eyeing the Cog up ever since it's marketing first appeared so let's give it a look!

Aesthetics

The Cog MTL RTA came in the usual Black and Woofo Green packaging with clear lid so the product can be fully viewed before opening, i received the Black version, the options are Black, SS, Gunmetal, Gold, Blue and Rainbow.

The RTA's construction involves a lot of plastic making it extremely lightweight and has a cheap almost semi-disposable feel to it but that is in contrast to it's looks which i actually like reminding me slightly of one of my Doggystyle versions. Although it involves a lot of plastic where it matters for durability the threaded areas are metal such as the top-cap threading, also the deck area and chimney.

Up top we have a curved style MTL delrin 510 drip tip so you can use your own and the chamber has a nice curved shape to it similar to the "Recurve" sleeve. On the front of the chamber we have the Cog Logo which looks very nice but is over shadowed by large etched safety marks on the rear which i'm sure i'm not the only one that will dislike. I understand the safety marks have to be present but surely they could be smaller.

Moving to the bottom the Cog has a transparent look allowing to see the Gears in action as the airflow is adjusted, we have dual slots (which are not for airflow adjustment) and both an arrow head and markings showing the selected airflow setting.

As mentioned in my opinion the Cog looks great but do wonder about the plastic lightweight approach and how durable over time the gears will be as these also appear to be plastic.

What You Receive?

A big plus for receiving two different pre-wound coils and cotton (specs listed above) but other than that not a lot! A screwdriver which i used to try and undo the first clamp screw with before tossing it in the bin and a few O-rings and spare clamp screws, that's it! No spare PCTG tube or different drip tip option, normally Wotofo products include a lot but not on this occasion!

___________________________________________________________________

It's Various Parts!

The Cog is made up of a 510 drip tip, central threaded top-cap, PCTG tube (3ml standard, 2ml TPD), chamber and chimney section, and base section including deck. It has a gear airflow system and Gold plated standard 510.

___________________________________________________________________

Filling The Tank

I know there is not much logic to covering this before airflow but the airflow is the interesting part so will keep you in suspense.

The top-cap is very thin and no knurling is present for grip so it can be quite difficult to unscrew. This is a bit of a chalk and cheese RTA for me so although unscrewing the top-cap can be a pain all metal sections including the threading and underside of the top-cap is very well machined.

Once off we have two large fill ports allowing for a quick mess free fill and then screwing the top-cap back in position is no dramas with that silky smooth threading.

___________________________________________________________________

The Airflow

This is were the Cog gets interesting using a gear system directly underneath your coil rather than airflow having to travel from the side of the tank and then upwards, losing pressure on it's journey.

We have two slots on the base which look like adjustable cyclops slots but do not adjust at all, these are just to allow plenty of air to get below where the real adjustable airflow is, underneath the coil. You do turn the section where the slots are situated though and we can see an arrowhead and different sized round indents to show the size of the airflow setting.

As you turn the base section it has inner teeth like a Gear which interlocks with a central gear so any rotation of the base in turn rotates the inner gear which has different sized airflow inlets. The sizes of the airflow inlets are 1.6mm, 1.4mm, 1.2mm, 1.0mm and 0.8mm. As it adjusts to each airflow size as well as the arrowhead pointing at the corresponding setting it also clicks satisfyingly into place.

___________________________________________________________________

The Deck And Build

I used both supplied coils and as i just get a feeling most reviews will show the build using the Fused Clapton i included photos of the Ni80 build although there is no difference in the build it'self and just to mention up to 3.0ID coils will sit great in this.

The Cog has such a user friendly build deck utilising horizontal clamps sitting opposite each other both with a central screw so it doesn't matter which way your coils are wound they will slot in nicely.

Just place your leads on the shelves underneath the loosened clamps and holding your coil in a central position tighten the clamp screws down from above. If needed use a coiling rod or fit for purpose tool to adjust the height and position of the coil then snip your access leads, that's all done!

The deck is raised allowing for a GTA style of wicking so just poke your cotton ends down in the channels without over stuffing, make sure e-liquid can circulate below the cotton.

___________________________________________________________________

My Experience Using The Cog And Thoughts!

I did mention earlier this being a chalk and cheese RTA but personally as i don't mind too much if it's sometimes a pain to unscrew the top-cap, it gives the draw spectrum that i like, the question mark about the durability of the plastic gears could turn out favourable and a leaking issue i had i now have solved, so it's mostly Cheese for me as the Cog has outstanding performance.

The top-cap not being the easiest to grip and get undone is more when i didn't use the tank for a while but actually when in continuous use it wasn't that bad, it seams to tighten and seal tighter the longer it is between fills.

The other issue i had was after using the first day the next morning i found the tank had emptied everywhere and couldn't understand why as the wicking is straightforward and this style of GTA wicking is common and has not given me leaking issues before. So i re-wicked and it was much better for a couple of days with just a bit of leakage and then overnight the tank emptied again.

After another re-wick which turns out like the first wasn't actually needed i noticed during use weeping coming from where the PCTG tube seals to the base so investigated further. The issue is the PCTG tube just sits on the base as the o-ring is that thin it's not the best of seals so the tank needs to be tightened together so tightly else the seal is compromised. The turning of the base to alter the airflow can very easily just slightly loosen the tube which will cause weeping which if isn't noticed and fixed will cause a real mess if left overnight.

Once i found what the cause of the leaking was from then on after changing airflow and taking off or putting the tank on a mod i just made sure the tube was re-tightened and in the last 10 days i have had no leaking whatsoever.

This idea of reducing loss of pressure really seems to work as the flavour from the Ni80 coil was outstanding but then the fused Clapton blew me away. This without doubt has been giving me the best flavour and smoothest airflow i have witnessed from a MTL tank manufactured in China, not saying there are not better ones just none i have tried.

What did surprise me was although the Cog is still what i would class as an authentic MTL tank the draw is not as tight as many MTL vapers might be looking for being more variants of mid to loose draws which for me is perfect.

So performance is great as long as you don't want a tight draw, i love the innovation shown and the sound and feel of the airflow clicking into place but a constant check is needed on the seal between the PCTG tube and base and it's not easy to grip and undo the top-cap!

Before i put my likes and cons i would just like to say thanks for reading and stay safe!

Eleaf iStick Power

I accidentally locked the up and down buttons by pressing both of them simultaneously for 2 seconds, I have tried unlocking them by doing the same thing like the instruction manual calls for. It doesn’t work, no “unlock” pops up or anything. You can hold them as long as you like and...nothing.

I have since figured something might be wrong with it as I am almost positive I’m doing it correctly. Now I have tried getting the reset button to work in hopes of the up and down buttons being unlocked upon reset. I hold the reset button for 5 seconds and I’ve tried the method of the combo with the fire button and reset as well as the up arrow and reset and the screen goes blank and turns back on but never says reset and the settings are still the same as before.

My next idea is plugging it into my computer in hopes of an update fixing this but other than that I am out of ideas. The device is stuck on 20 watts which is too high for the cartridge I’ve got on it. Does anybody have any ideas, please help me out.

-------------------------------------------
How it is made:

At first glance I immediately noticed a remarkable resemblance to the OBS Cube, the perfectly symmetrical and balanced three-sided frame design strongly recalls it, the part of the zinc alloy body is pleasantly rounded and covered with a rubbery / soft layer, thus ensuring excellent comfort.

9.jpg

--------------------------------------------
Certainly the material of the zinc alloy frame is super resistant, even the polycarbonate panels seem it, but I do not recommend a drop test for the mod, since its compact nature means that its excellent chip is crammed in an environment rather restricted, therefore, following an accidental fall that generates strong vibrations, his safety could be affected.

Help me figure out how to vape weed efficiently ?

So basically i've been a cannabis smoker for years now, though ever since it became legal ,i'm now interested in trying to vape it.
Sad thing is i have no clue how to proceed, everytime i tried vaping it, i end up with just a slight buzz and chocking hard compared to a simple joint.
I've tried various temperature and went as far as doing 2 bowls in a row, still no satisfying results. Should also mention i inhale both methods (mtl and dtl) simply because i like mixing.

What am i doing wrong ? Is it my inhaling method, is it my vape that's not full enough or is that simply how it works in general ?

Vaporizer i use atm is the boundless vape cfx.

Tips for someone with vaping sensitivity

Hello. I vaped for about 1.5 years and started getting pain in my left and middle chest and shortness of breath. I got a ton of medical tests and quit vaping for about 3 months. After all the testing, the doctors think I have "esophageal hypersensitivity" and also very minor coronary artery spasms (not related to heart disease). I'm taking various medications to help.

After I found out I wasn't dying of lung or heart disease, I started smoking tobacco again like a complete idiot, mainly because it doesn't cause as extreme of symptoms as vaping does. I think it's because the smoke masks the nicotine a bit with all the tar and other crap.

Now I'm at the point where I am vaping again and just ignoring the symptoms the best I can, because I am having a very hard time quitting tobacco with anything else (I've tried nicotine gum, lozenges, the inhaler, etc. and nothing works as well as vaping). My symptoms are not just caused by vaping, but vaping is one of the biggest triggers.

Does anyone get similar symptoms (chest pain/tightness, shortness of breath, hypersensitive esophagus) -- and if so, do you have any tips for the right type of products or liquids? Part of me thinks this hypersensitivity started because I was hitting the Juul way too often, and my body was like "hey, hold on now!"

Side note: when this all started, I even tried no-nicotine liquid and I still got minor symptoms. There's a chance I have a sensitivity to the vapor or something, and yes, I have tried different blends of PG/VG. So far the most helpful approach has been to vape like I'm smoking a cigar (hold vapor in mouth vs. inhaling into lungs), but I'm still searching for the optimum device/liquid combo.

Any tips are appreciated. Thank you.

Closed/Sold Provari v2.5(s) - Excellent Condition (incl. shipping and cap)

Somewhat tough to find colors, purple & bronze, both kept intact, never used. Any nicks are tiny, and just from having them out of their boxes.

I've been on the fence about these two but figured I'd check the waters.

The purple is a MUCH nicer color than I can capture in a pic, and the bronze is pretty much on target (for accuracy).

$99 each, shipped (CONUS). Will ship international but buyer would have to pay for shipping. Both come with the matching extension caps for 18650 batteries. The regular caps (for 18490s) will be included too, of course.

IF any interest, give me a shout.

Tis all for now. Thanks for glancing! :)

Vertebraid Wire Review

In my last order from Advanced Vape Supply they threw in a free spool of Vertebraid wire 34GX6 316L. It looked interesting sitting in my tackle box. Tonight I decided to make some coils. It was kind of hard to work with. It didn't work in the coil master coiling tool, as each wrap would catch on the last wrap and go on top of it instead of sliding down onto the post. The wire is very springy and it doesn't want to stay in the shape you put it in. I had to wrap almost a complete extra wrap for it to spring back to where I wanted it. No matter how hard I tried, it was impossible to wrap it tight. It would always spring back to a spaced coil (which is not a bad thing.) I made the coils 7/6 and 3.0. They came out about 0.4 ohms each. Surprisingly I didn't have any issues with fraying of the ends after cutting it. The coils were a little too long for the Zeus X build deck, (which is kind of small and fussy). I pinched the coils lengthwise to get the leads into the holes and once the screws were tightened, it looked respectable. On test firing, the ramp up was very slow at 40 watts, but ok at 50 watts. Wicking was not an issue, I was surprised how easy the cotton went through.

The coils vape well at 50W. Flavor dropped off above 50W. Overall, flavor is OK and cloud production is good. I made extra coils and will try them in a Dead Rabbit V2 RDA, which seems to always have better flavor than the Zeus X RTA. But there are times, like when driving, that a dripper is just not practical.

Overall, this wire provides about the same vape experience as clapton wire which is much easier to work with.

Aegis Pod a review by ScottP

Aegis Pod a review by ScottP
I would like to express my gratitude to Clay from GeekVape for supplying this kit for review.
https://www.geekvape.com/kits/pod-system/aegispod.html
GeekVape

GeekVape, the company famous for its Aegis line of highly durable and water-resistant mods and great flavor tanks, have just unveiled their latest product, the Aegis Pod. The term “pod” here is a bit of a misnomer as the device is more like an “all in one” in that it has replaceable coils instead of a replaceable pod that is pre-filled with liquid, but like most pod systems the device is small and easy to use. It has a large 3.5ml reservoir for you to add your own choice of liquid and uses the new 0.6ohm G.coil using mesh for superior flavor and vapor. Like all Aegis products, it is IP-67 water-proof and dust proof certified, while its shock absorbent zinc shell helps protect it from falls and drops. It is available in Black, Silver, Gunmetal, and Rainbow colors. If you are looking for a small easy to use device with great flavor and a surprising amount of vapor for its size, and work or play in areas that make you afraid you will damage your vape, then the Aegis Pod just might be what you are looking for.

Aegis_Pod_2.jpg

First Impressions:
I have never owned a Pod or AIO type of device, but I have tried several of them that friends have had and I was never impressed with any of them, but this is Geekvape, so I was not quite sure what to expect. The Pod I received was the rainbow color housing with black leather inset and smoke grey reservoir which was stunning to look at. Pulling the pod from the protective foam insert, you can’t help but notice how light it is but how sturdy it feels to hold. Still, given my previous pod experiences, I was not sure I would like this, but that was about to change…

Aegis_Pod_3.jpg

What it's like to use the Aegis X Zeus Kit:
As always, I like to use a product exclusively for a full week before writing a review. This gives me time to fully explore all the functions and get a really good idea of all the features and performance. Since this is an AIO/Pod system there really aren’t any features or functions to explore, still I wanted to take the full week as a challenge to see if a Pod system could fill my needs without needing to use any other device. I was pleasantly surprised by what I found. The pod does not come with a coil installed, so first you remove the reservoir by pulling straight up on it, then a coil is just pressed into the coil hole (I added a few drops of liquid to the coil first). Next, you lift the rubber flap covering the fill port and add your favorite e-liquid and snap the reservoir back into place. A special tool is included for removing the coil but the one included is too big for these coils (seems to be the same tool as the Zeus Sub-ohm tank). It might still work, but I had no issues removing the coil without the tool anyway.

Aegis_Pod_4.jpg

Like most mods it has a 5 clicks to turn on and 5 clicks to turn off feature, so I turned it on and took my first pull. First thought: WOW, that was a lot of vapor for a pod system. How much? I would say it is probably more comparable to a single coil simple round wire MTL type RDA than it is to any other Pod type device I have tried. The flavor was just as good too. I will say that with how close the coil is to your mouth this does produce fairly warm vapor so it might pair better with flavors that are suited for warmer vapor (maybe a good apple pie flavor would be perfect) rather than cool flavors like mints, menthols, and the like. Of course, your opinion may be different. For the most part this device was enough to for me to use as my only device for the whole week. I did revert back to using the Geekvape Aegis X with Zeus X dual coil tank a couple of times but I think my problem was that all of the juice I had made up was only 3mg/ml that I use on dual coil RDA type devices. I have zero doubt that if I had made a slightly stronger liquid (6-10mg/ml), I would have had no problem using this as my only device. Needless to say, I am quite impressed with the performance of this little device both in the vapor and flavor department. Actually, if you are coming from a lesser pod type device or even some single coil MTL devices, you may find this quite an upgrade. I let my wife try it out and she said she plans to steal it from me as soon as I am done with my review.

PROS:
  • Impressive vapor production and flavor from such a small device.
  • The design aesthetics make this a great looking device.
  • The heavy duty housing makes this pod highly durable and relieves fear of damage from dropping it.
  • IP67 Water/Dust resistant means you can use this by the pool or in harsh environments without worry.
  • Very comfortable to hold.
  • Uncomplicated and easy to use.
  • Easy to replace coils and refill juice.
  • Air flow design makes it highly leak resistant if not leak proof. (I had zero leakage during my tests)
  • Good battery life, I got 9-11 hours on a full charge.
  • You CAN vape while still charging after just a few minutes of initial charge from a full depletion.
  • Good coil life. I used the same coil all week with no noticeable degradation of vapor or flavor. This is with a clear and non-sweet juice (Wintergreen). Darker and more sweet juices may or may not alter results.
  • Its small size, ease of use, and leak proof design make it a great device for on the go.

CONS:
  • $13-$15 per 5 pack coils (from checking with a few sites).
  • Not rebuildable, so if coils become obsolete or sales of it are banned, you will not be able to continue to use this Pod.
  • The vapor is quite warm and can be slightly painful if you get your lip too close to the opening (just make sure to put more of the mouthpiece in your mouth to prevent this).

Thoughts and Observations:
The Aegis Pod is a another solid entry to the Aegis line and is unequivocally the best Pod/AIO type device I have ever tried.
I usually use this section for making suggestions for what I would like to see changed in the next iteration of devices from the company, however, for what this is, I am not sure I would change anything. That in itself says a lot about this little device.

Should YOU get the Aegis Pod?
If you are currently using a true Pod type device but would like to use your own liquid instead of being limited to the manufacturers pre-filled pods or if you are currently using an AIO type device but want more vapor and flavor then absolutely give this a shot. If you are using a full sized mod and tank but are in the market for a smaller more discreet device for work or on the go, then absolutely look no further. Really the only people I would not recommend this to are those that prefer a really cool vape, those that prefer pre-filled pods, or those that prefer multi-coil cloud monsters and are not in the market for something more discreet. I think this could work for pretty much everyone else.

"Summer" by ejuice depot recipe?

If anyone happens to have used this e-juice and can get me started on what they think is going to make something similar that would be really lovely. I've tried a few lemonade flavors, tried a few lemon flavors but I haven't really got anywhere close. This was like my first real all day Vape and I love it to death but I'm running out of my Supply and I am terrible at making recipes. It's a very mild lemonade its sweet with a suggestion of being Tangy without actually being Tangy I don't think there's much citric acid. I'm not really sure how else to describe it

coil question

I am on day 5 of quitting the habit..using chantix along with the nord rpm 40...curious about the 0.4 vs 0.6 coils that came with my kit and which to buy for refills. I used the 4 till today, thought I'd try the 6 to see the difference..using 10, I raise it also sometimes no higher than 20, and use the lizard juice outlaw road 24 mg...the 10 wattage and gives decent hit and smoke..I am finding that I dont get the slight spitting w the 6....which I like. is this normal? or should I try lower wattage on the 4? thanks in advance.
when I said smoke, what I meant was the cloud I exhale lol... I do raise the wattage sometimes but like in the morning when my lungs are sensitive I found lower works without making me cough..smooth hit.. i also find a difference using the 4 vs 6 on the same setting.. 4 spits a little..even if i raise the wattage where 6 doesnt seem to... am I going to damage my coils using a lower wattage?

Man denied oxygen because he vapes.

I will just copy and paste, not sure if it's ok to post the link to the site but if you google it you can find more info right away.

A pioneering vape advocate refused oxygen because he vapes is facing a slow lingering painful death.

And not only that, he’s been refused to even be considered a new sheltered home for him and his wife – who suffers from dementia – because the local law bans smokers or vapers from being given them.

As it stands right now, Ray Yeates is forced to live in a tiny hotel room whilst caring for his desperately sick wife, and could soon have his life-saving oxygen supply taken away for no other reason than he is a vaper.
Yes really…and if this .... is allowed to go on – it could happen to you wherever you are in the world.

Canada is supposedly held up as a shining example of inclusion and openness – unless of course you’re a vaper and then you are literally living under a death sentence.
It sounds like something out of a dystopian novel – but it’s happening right now and it’s not only shocking – but abhorrent.

Ray is 70-years-old and founded the Tobacco Harm Reduction Association of Canada [THRA] back in 2014 after taking up vaping.

He was suffering from severe emphysema/pneumonia at the time and has survived lung cancer!
After realizing e-cigarettes were life savers for smokers, he founded the organization with the mission statement:

Our mission is to promote the availability of effective, affordable and reduced harm alternatives to smoking by increasing public awareness and education, to encourage the testing and development of products to achieve acceptable safety standards and reasonable regulation; and to promote the benefits of reduced harm alternatives.

Our goal is to educate the public, including stake holders (politicians, journalists, editors, other associations), and address concerns regarding personal vaporizers (electronic cigarettes) and their safety, to dispel misconceptions and misinformation regarding these products

Ray and his desperately sick wife had been living happily in a trailer until his wife’s condition deteriorated and it was only then he asked the Nova Scotia government for assistance.
As you can see his plea for help has been refused and now the health authorities are planning to take away the life giving oxygen he needs to stay alive.

Vape Advocate Refused Oxygen – Help Save the Life Of Ray Yeates

Now advocacy group the International Network of Nicotine Consumer Organisations [INNCO] has stepped in and is urging the vape community, from individuals to advocacy groups, to get involved and put pressure on the Nova Scotia government to save Ray’s life.

INNCO only heard of the situation overnight and are now mobilizing support via social media and say:

The local health authorities have now informed him his OXYGEN TANK FACILITY WILL SOON BE FORCIBLY REMOVED as rules dictate oxygen cannot be provided to vapers.

Ray doesn’t vape whilst using his oxygen mask.

His intelligence & the laws of physics, rather negate that option.

However, removing his access to oxygen places him in grave mortal danger.

This is a threat to commit state sponsored murder, no more and no less.

Outrageous doesn’t come close.

It is, without doubt, a despicable abrogation of human rights and must be rescinded immediately.

INNCO and his close colleagues are working upon a legal intervention, however time is not on our side.

We urge all our Members and followers to forward, retweet and publicise Ray’s predicament far and wide.

If he requires a private provider we will form a GoFundMe to assist.

This is a developing story and I will of course keep you all informed.

All we can do for now is to retweet the INNCO thread highlighting this terrible situation and also use the hashtag #SaveRayYeates.

I’ve written many shocking stories over the decades, but this one really has astonished me.

As INNCO say, this is a human rights issue and if left unchallenged is the kind that could spread globally.

Ray Has Saved Lives Now Help Save His

This quote from Ray back in 2014 shows what a passionate vape advocate the man is:

I agree that harm reduction is in need of more data, but for now the research is what brought me beyond the time I was given to live.

Giving up and giving in was not part of my moral beliefs and never will be.

In a moral sense I believe denying other smokers of the possible harm reduction of these devices is nothing short of neglect.

Powerful stuff…

Without doubt Ray has saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of smokers now enjoying a healthier life.

A vape advocate refused oxygen because he or she vapes is definitely the worst case of anti-vape law I’ve ever seen and you – a member of your family or friend that smokes OR vapes could be next if they’re allowed to get away with this.

It’s time to pay back all of Ray’s tireless hard work, passion and courage with something as simple as a re-tweet OR by spreading this article and Ray’s plight far and wide.

Let’s hope we can shame those faceless disgusting Nova Scotia politicians into doing the right thing NOW – because a man’s life depends on it.

Is this for real?
wow...no words to describe what I'm feeling at the moment.
How can the government be so obtuse?
Hope this poor guy and his wife get the help they need.

Review - Smok Nord 2

The Smok Nord 2, a compact 40W all in one vape device that features a 0.69″ OLED screen, and an internal battery capacity of 1500 mAh. Additionally the Smok Nord 2 is compatible with both the Smok Nord and RPM coils, giving a good range of coil choice. While there is no adjustable airflow, can the ability to adjust the wattage push the Smok Nord 2 into pole position ? Can it win where others fail ? Click on the image or link below to read more. As always thanks for reading and keep well.
