I tried this method and seem to have the same problem this time, got about 1/2 through one tank and starting to get funny tasting sorta dry hits, maybe I'm still using too much. Made another with even less CC and just started it, so we'll see how long this one lasts. If it still doesn't I don't know what to do, its barely enough to even fill the coil.
BTW, vaping at 1.4-1.6 ohms, 11.5W

Well, this is troubling... I'm havin' some trouble gettin' rayon to work with my Squape R and I'm stumped. I've tried several types of wicking techniques, and I have a tendency towards dry, ashy (not dry, metal-y) hits, which go away briefly after sitting for a while, but come right back after two or three hits. It doesn't really matter how tight the airflow is, either. These builds are Ni200, with my Hana Modz DNA40.
The rayon's always inserted with double insertion, has the proper rayon 'squeak' in the coil, but no matter what I do, nothing seems to work. I've done the 'fan' method (cutting at an angle even with the edge of the coil all the way to the edge of the channel, with the rayon 'fanned up'), but that leaks like crazy and has dry hits. A modified 'fan' method with that cuts off just inside the wick channels (so there's a full wick in the channel; no more leaks, but still dry hits). I've tried with angle cuts from just inside the channels with a significantly thinned tail (from as much as 1/4 of the full wick, to as little as about 1/12th of the full wick), and still dry hits. I've even done the full, 'flush with the build deck edge' full wick. Dry hits everywhere. I've even tried the different wicks tails flush or trailing down the juice channels with angle cut tails, no help.
Any thoughts, gentlemen? I really don't wanna have to go back to the Rose V2, considering I love building in the Squape R, and love the wide, open draw of the two biggest airholes, but... Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Pick a build and wicking method. Take a picture of it and post it. Use it, and when it stops working right, take another picture of it, and post it along with the settings you're using it at.
We'll figure it out.![]()
Yeah, I know the wick looks wet, that's what's throwin' me off so damn much!Wick looks to be plenty wet. There's a lot of spatter around the coil. What juice, and what settings? That's a twisted coil in there right?
Dammit, the right side ended up being a clone of the left side, sorry! Fixed now.
Yeah, I know the wick looks wet, that's what's throwin' me off so damn much!Dunno why there's so much spatter around the coil, either, never suffered that overly much with my Kayfuns, Rose V2 or my drippers. And yeah, it is a twisted .28 ga. Ni200 coil, 0.1Ω, which is a little below the DNA40's supposed sweet spot. Sadly, it's still the best working rayon build I've had in the Squape R as yet. The liquids have been mostly Good Life Vapor liquids, Atom Bomb (fairly high PG), High Five and Orange Blossom (both fairly high VG), the latter two being very sweet. I've varied wattage between 35W and 40W, temp between 400° and 450°, 420° (lol) being just about the least likely to produce dry hits while giving acceptable VTF. Another thing that bugs me is how the right hand side of the wick is darkened, unlike the left hand side, which is much lighter in color. Like I said, this is the most frustration I've had with rayon, but I really, really don't want to go back to cotton!

Posted by PeteMoss on SqR Clone thread: @SeniorBoy: No, I don't see much difference between the original SQr and a working clone. I trim the wick just like they tell you - flush to the edge of the deck. As long as you get the wick density right, you're good. I use rayon for everything and pack the coil tight. With cotton, you need to use less in the coil because the cotton will expand.
One thing I have noticed about squape wicks is they tend to "grow" down the channel as some shorter fibers work themselves out of the wick. When I refill, I'll sometimes trim away any long tails hanging down. At the low wattages I like to vape at, long tails don't seem to matter. But I occasionally go over 15 watts and any long tails seem to slow down the wicking. So I chop off the tails and the vape is juicier.

Hmm, some points to think about for sure. I didn't struggle with normal cotton too bad, which is probably what makes this more frustrating.Looks like far too little in the coil... The first pic looked like decent density in the coil. I think your stuck on how cotton works and this doesn't work like cotton.
It's about as difficult as learning to use cotton for the first time. Took me quite a while to learn cotton in the beginning, actually a few months before I figured it out.. If you consider yourself a vaping expert... Your basically starting all over again with rayon. It's a unique wick.
It's where the wick goes through the deck and into the tank that it needs attention. It needs to have less density than the coil. If the tail is as thick as the rayon in the coil it won't wick very well against gravity.
None the less it's not easy on a genni.
Whoops, forgot to put the ladies in front of the gentlemen.Well, you didn't ask us LADIES but I guess I'll reply anyway..

I've got a Squape R FastTech Clone that works great for me. I chose to place my coil and wick above the channel because I don't trust the E-Metal coating on this clone. Here is Ni200 coil and wick. See if this might help you in any way:

The only thing I can see is that your wicking isn't even on each side. Note the discolored bit on one side that indicates a touch of burning on the wick.
AMD always brings vape porn... just sayin'AMD or Kiwi, one of you posted perfect porn of KF wicking and I'm going nuts trying to find it now. Can you post it again, or link to it please?
...It won't leak - there's an o-ring there.
