Hi have a few strands in the channels and never had a problem, not even at 40w using 50/50 juice

I have no problems with 50/50 juice. Matter of fact, when I do a build for 50/50 juice, I do run a few strands down the channels, otherwise, it will flood. Most of my juices are 70-80 vg though and I have issues with wicking when I put any wicking material down the vertical channels.

Ok so here's my coil and wick. Having kinda dry cloggy feeling hits. Any advice? Is it my coil or wick job or both?

Your coil legs are going to the wrong screws, so you have long legs there. Attach them to the screws right next to where they come off the coil. Wrap the coil in the opposite direction next time.

What kind of wick material are you using there? Is that rayon?

The wick doesn't look bad to me. Maybe drag a few fibers a couple of mm further down the channels. Maybe not. (??) Be sure to prime the wick thoroughly.

Kyi: are you a lefty?

Wick looks ok. If it's rayon, I would have put more.

(wicked with rayon) :

The wick sits on top of the deck like a sausage :) notice how high the wick's shoulders are on mine.

Ps: if yours is rayon, is it just an effect of the pic or is the wick starting to collapse? Notice the tiny gap forming between the coil and the wick in pic #2.

If it is rayon and that thing is a gap, that explains the weird taste (dry coil) you're tasting.

Also, like vaping turtle said, those long legs heat up and since they are dry, they can release an off taste.

Ok I will try redoing my coil and make the legs shorter. I'm using koh gen do and I am right handed. I usually make my coil on a 2.4mm mini screwdriver, holding the screw driver and coil in my left hand and wrap over the top... thus creating the.. uhm... wrapping orientation that I have in that photo. I guess to get it the other way around, I should wrap it downwards instead? I never tried it that way... was always easier doing it the way I have been. I've rewicked it 3 times today already, still not getting quite the perfect vape. I do have some rayon around here too... should I try that instead?

Yes, your wicking looks pretty good to me. You might prime and then check without the chimney installed. Most likely issue is the long leads. As noted, wrap you coil in the opposite direction and install to the adjacent screw. And if that's rayon, add 20% more. You can twist the wick tight to insert then untwist, fluff, and cut. Also that's more metal than I would choose to use; my current preferred coil for the erl is 8 wraps of 28g with 3.25mm diameter.

How high do you have the coil set on that? That's a fat fella of a coil. I've done 3mm, but I have to set it a bit lower because I don't want to hit the chimney. If you have a picture handy, I'd love to see it. Thanks. :)

@Kyi:

How thick of a juice are you running? If I'm running thick stuff, that much wick in the channels would give me dry hits too. Ditto what everyone else said on leg length.

Looking at your pictures a little more, with a 50/50 and cotton, I'd leave longer tails that are thinner. Trim your shoulders a little tighter to the deck. These posts may help you out a bit. Links ahoy.

I all that fails you, put it down for a day or two and come back to it fresh. Hope you get it sorted.

^ AH yes. I guess I'll just pick another one up.

In any case while I made a mistake, it turned out to be incredibly easy to drill the airholes out to 2mm. Just make sure to stop drilling once you are around the 2 smaller airholes on the side of the post. What I ended up doing was drilling straight through, and destroyed the threads that the 510 pin threads on to :(

Opened the airflow of my second erlk to 2mm and the airflow is a ton better. Has anyone tried 3/32?

Kiwi, I think you need to put that drill away for a while. I'm beginning to worry about you. :)

Do we need to send somebody over to your place to make sure you're OK?

Does anyone know where I might be able to grab a replace positive post section for the erlk? Kinda messed it up when I was drilling out the air hole haha

Don't worry, I did the same thing. I fixed it also. If you're into brevity: pinch the threaded area of the post with pliers. That will depend on how much thread you took out. I still had a bunch left so taking it out of round a bit fixed it right up.
