Mech Mod Blows up in Teen's Face !

All batteries have a risk factor. If the kid had plugged the mod into a usb adapter for auto the 12v surging in could have been the cause! Auto cig lighter adapter with usb port intended for charging?

Cell phones being charged or powering a laptop or tablet not intended for mech mods that offer not short circuit or other protections is why you would see 12v fed into anything. Even then you could likely be plugging in a charging adapter to lower the 12v down to only 5v standard voltage for usb ports.

Accident by misinformed under age person. It's unfortunate but does illustrate the question as to why the parents left the mod unattended?! Reports like this are then used to generate bad publicity for vaping in general and should actually be shrugged off from any public sharing. Don't fuel the Crud rumor mills.

User error, almost certainly. Setting aside the fact that no 16 year old kid should ever be using a mech mod, read the quotes from his father; it's pretty clear that he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer.. and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

What's really shocking are some of the comments to that story. Some imbecile posted "E-Cigs are 5 times more cancerous than cigarettes are and cancer shows up a hole lot fast and unfightable , so why do people still buy them, cause they are very STUPID , hope teen has speedy recovery . E-cigs need to be permanently Banned" The ANTZ have been hard at work, and dumb people are easily influenced.

The problem too often seen with any of these articles is the immediate comments no matter how brainless they are usually end being the only ones posted since that option is closed up fast! You have to be right on top of each new report in order to show the common sense response!

"The Phantom Mod by Wotofo is an authentic mechanical mod featuring dual top caps for hybrid or standard contacts..."

The description should have said, "a dangerous mechanical mod featuring dual top caps for fake hybrid or standard contacts..."

Don't know if this has been posted or not yet, but warning graphic image !
...and they say e-cigs are for 18+, in this case he is 16 and his parents are there with him. They blame a non-regulated mod, but no mention of the type of battery he put it !

E-cig explodes in face - Canada News

That is why i hate mech mods.

They dont havd the safety features of regulated devices.

The people want to be ultra cool and vape a coil as low as possible without even considering battery safety and ohms law to understand how many amps you are trying to pull out of a battery with that coil.

Sorry but i am not politically correct.

People abusing batteries until they go boom is makinv vaping look very bad to the public.

So you have state government outlawing vaping because they are losing all that tax money from tobacco, people contacting their representatives because vaping is dangerous.

I see a perfect storm coming where there will be a complete ban on vaping except for big tobacco products.

A while back i started a thread "Do some vapers have a death wish?".

In that thread i laid this problem at the feet of the cloud chasers, and the vape shops that build ultra low ohm coils without educating abour battery safety.

I closed with the comment we can either police ourselves or watch vaping be destroyed.

"We absolutely need product standards. For instance, they shouldn't explode in your mouth," Hagen said.
No they shouldn't, not if you're using them properly at least...

Actually, it may be a bit premature for me to say that. I have only just started using mechs, buy boy have I done my research!
Because it doesn't matter which way you look at it, once you have the device, your safety is entirely in your own hands.
I have spent weeks researching everything I wasn't sure of and I'm confident enough in my builds, batteries and other equipment I use.
It's hard to gauge this stuff because 90% of the time we dont know what batteries these people are using.

What we need is for the cloud chasers and vape shops to EDUCATE and sometimes say NO when a person wants an ultra low build that will try to pull 40 amps out of a 20 amp battery.

I agree, I have witnessed a shop keeper refuse to sell a noisy cricket to 2 lads when they couldn't tell him what ohms law was. Which was kind of great to see to be honest!
But how many refused customers will just go online and buy it anyway without educating themselves?

I am glad some vape shop employees have the spine to say NO!

Now your question; i am sure some will either go to another vape shop or buying online.

However they will have to build or buy the coils somewhere.

What we neef is EDUCATION about battery safety!

Agree 100%, it's a mixture of irresponsible sales and a lack of knowledge on the part of the user.
Battery safety is the key, well that and the builds people use.

This is why I hate fools who use mech mods..its not the mod but the ignorant person using it that causes these foolish accidents..

Seeing stuff like this is frustrating. I was vaping at 16 as well. It was right when rdas and mech mods were becoming popular. I learned the physics behind my mods and batteries and I've never so much as had a battery get hot. It has nothing to do with the fact he's underage. He's stupid and immature. That could be true for a 50 year old.
