This reviewer's take on the cause of the incident.. He recommends not using most of the sub-tanks available on devices with hybrid top-caps.. Now that a plausible explanation is available, how would "Joe Average" vaper know this when picking gear out in a local shop? I consider myself well-informed on many things vaping-related, but haven't really heard about the pins on many sub-tanks not playing nice with hybrid top-caps until now...

Same theory to this previous post of mine:

Found this via IG repost earlier. Perhaps this is the issue with the explosion, says it will cause a hard short.

"Anybody" relatively new to vaping probably wouldn't even think about it.. ;)

Maybe I'm the only dummy here, I would not have known not to use an Atlantis on a certain mod.

Of course, I've never owned either.......which explains WHY I woudn't know. If I bought these items I would expect the person selling to me to either know, or for there to a something in the User Manual / instructions to tell me this.

But there is no spoon! ....errr umm manual! LOL!

So even if you owned one, zero info! It's not just the Atlantis either, same with Subtanks and most sub ohm clearos from what I understand (their center pin is flush or too close to it).

That's the part that worries me the most, and that's why I think there needs to be a very public PSA about how this could potentially be a BIG issue for a LOT of people who just didn't know any better.

If someone's sub-ohming to .06 and blows their face off, you can easily blame the hilariously insane build (70A? unnecessary). If someone is sold an Atlantis and a hybrid mech mod as a combo at a vape shop, what are they expected to do? With how it appears, even vape shop employees don't know that this is an issue, considering they sell people this setup.

Thus the saying "You Can't Fix Stupid" gets another notch in it's belt. I am getting oh so angry at the stupidity that the ill informed media has been broadcasting about vaping and ecigs just in the short while that I have been vaping. A ban here and a ban there on ecigs and vaping is happening everyday in my region and its based seemingly on the fear of the unknown. And does the media ever do their homework on the subject before either printing a story or doing a TV news spot? Why of course not! Why should they? If they did, then they would have to find something else to lie about. I was just today accused of being "addicted" to vaping by an ignorant fool that obviously had no clue as to what vaping is all about. I could go on and on but you all already know this stuff but I just wish somebody could set the media straight on a worldwide basis so we vapers could vape in peace. "Nuff said"

Compare legit 18650 flat tops and they will be consistantly right at 65mm.
Button tops will be slightly longer.

Sort of, my vtc4's are .5-1 mm longer than my purple efests. It's not much, but in a small mod with no adjustments available, it makes a difference.

All it's going to take is one 12 year old with half his face blown off, then there will be Congressional investigations into e-cigs, which will make worrying about the FDA seem like a joke...

Not if we work at reshaping the rhetorical cage we allow our opposition to put us in.

These are consumer electronics issues - not vaping issues. Don't let it become so.
