He was using a tank with a floating center pin on a "faux" hybrid mechanical mod it wasn't designed to be on...

Simply over tightening a tank with a floating pin can cause it to short.

Just curious. How did you learn the specific details (type of tank) of what the boy was using?

UVAO (United Vapor Advocates of Ontario) went over it fairly well since it was a Canadian.. There's pictures out there of it out there I don't feel like searching though ^__^

I believe the idea is to eliminate any battery voltage loss from a mod's 510 center pin. By not having a 510 center pin, battery voltage from the battery goes directly to the atomizer, and not going through a 510 center pin whose resistance might cause some insignificant voltage loss. I agree, it seems overly dangerous for very little benefit.

That just sounds like a foolish idea to me, like removing the brakes from your car to "save gas".

The problem is that someone, (who no doubt uses it safely because they're extremely experienced), popularizes an idea like the "hybrid", the Chinese see this and make (often cheap) gear for it to meet "market demand", then some ignorant kid buys it, an incident occurs, and the media get another excuse to demonize all e-cigs. Sometimes the vaping community is its own worst enemy.

I believe that the main idea is to reduce additional connection points (e.g, removing the positive pin in a top cap). Using a hybrid adapter instead of a top cap also reduces the height of the mod.

It basically reduces voltage drop by connecting the center pin of a tank/rda directly to the positive side of the battery because there will be less metal between the pin and the battery, most tanks aren't designed to be used that way and require a 510 connection...

Very advanced gear....

Yep, I have a bunch of different hybrid adapters for mods with different threading and I'm familiar with how they work. Minimizing the connection points helps to reduce the voltage drop. I've played a bit with them, but I don't think they're practical for every day use and the novelty isn't worth the risk of battery failure IMO.

They were original designed to give a flush look.
Like a hybrid.
However, these are not hybrids. Hybrids are much safer.
You can't attach the wrong atty to a hybrids.

Very stupid gear, if you ask me.

I mean seriously, what good is it?
You can blow a 5% bigger cloud at best?

Darwin has his eye on vapers.

And it's the ones that don't know better that are getting reconstructive surgery.
But yeah, they're stupid, not the ones making these ridiculous products.

Well let's see... how did the Japanese government go about dealing with the complaints about ecigs depriving the Big T's there of their livelihoods? "Disinformation"! and make-up artists have excellent tools to work with these days! The difference at seeing this report from others where a cig look alike goes boom is location! It's now time for the Canadian BS rumor mill to go to work since these types of stories has already beed floated domestically.

As far as mechs and batteries especially rechargeable flash light batteries which is precisely what 18xxx and 26xxx batteries are rechargeable AAAs can go boom as well if not being correctly charged! Mechs do have the often of seeing separate safety fuses added in. So you can't say there is absolutely no protection available at all. In fact I had an aluminum tube mod where the SMOK Kick VW mod you add in to be able to adjust the watts caused the fire button to cook! The battery was still like brand new when used on the next device however.

The SMOK Guardian epipe mod that uses a single 18350 battery is a mech there. So far in the last 3yrs. only two 18650s have let go while several eGos have as well. Those are the standard and VV/VW eGo-V 3s and one V4 1300mah rechargeables. One of the 18650 had been left in the mod and decharged itself so far it could no longer take a charge.

The report indicated the mod was being used out in the car and so how long had it been outside in the car like frozen or on the dash with sun light beaming in? Rapid temp changes can also cause problems.

Either that was a manufacturer's defect or an intentional short to create that one! Have several original Atlantis V1s with 5ml replacement tanks and now the new V2 Mega
tanks in use on several high wattage mods and never once ever seen any of them have a problem! I simply had to remind myself they couldn't take over 35-40w when putting one a 50w iStick most common, 60w MVP 3.0 Pro, now a Cool Fire IV 40w and three 70w Plus as well as the 150w wooden box and other 50w APV. Staged to get bad publicity? You have to wonder at times!

Oh yes! Where do you think all of the Formal de who? rumors about toxins in ecigs were coming from? While intended to be spread as a disinformation campaign there as the later reports indicated the BS slingers here had picked up on it and started using every opt to spread a new fabrication!

The subsequent followup reports that were slow to come later however dispelled most of those by presenting the actual science including what had been published in the New England Journal of "Not So Real Afterall" Medicine!

Presently however places like Wisconsin and California, sound familiar?, have been the worst as far as health? or in Big Pharma pockets Depts. go?! Locally in fact one school system in one community is now considering banning any vegetables from school lunches that contain a natural level of nicotine?!

Just think a substitution of your fresh garden variety vegetables like tomatoes, potatoes, green peppers, etc. in favor of what exactly? Junk food in the vending machines? where obesity rates and overweight kids has been the trends lately so the evening news reports? Processed meats loaded with sugars and everything else seeing higher sodium levels makes for Big Pharma lifetime customer bases!

Nope you wouldn't because you're using it correctly, over tighten it on a fake hybrid mod and you have well what happened to that kid..

Uhm...
No one outside of Japan pays attention to the Ministry of Health.
These are the same people that said Fukishima was all under control, nothing to see here folks, no contamination at all, foodstuff a-okay!

Often if you overtighten a tank the contact is broken where the resistance then goes from 0.5ohn to 0.0ohm! Something still has to have pulled that much current into and likely sounding too much like through the tank in order see that much current?

OR/And, takes note on this, the DIY mix had a bad hair day! This has happened on any number of tanks where the ejuice is at fault. Someone somehow managed to push too much power through using the wrong battery perhaps? Or it was simply staged for bad publicity in behest of Big $$$! The later being more likely to be a con job with that intent to push out to the misinformation of the public!

Never rule anything out completely when some are looking for just the right type of BS propaganda to push out to the masses! You are forgetting one thing here. It's referred to as the Vaping Information War of Real Science versus Total....! Formal de bull, ecigs exploding, ecigs containing more toxins, antifreeze found in ecigs, etc. BS lines all seen in the last few years!

I am unable to find any Google on that...
Little help please?

And you won't either! That hasn't even been made public from what I gather but was something "Someone" slipped out word on being a proposal for one local community on one of the social networks.

I still have to relocate and review the pdf file attached to one discussion while the theme of banning veggies with nic doesn't take much review to see how that will likely flop anyway! You going to try and tell some kid they can't have pizza because of tomatoes and green peppers two commonly used veggies no less or that potato side is not allowed any longer? Even the parents would be raising fuss!
