Looks like they did bump their typical ohms to .4 That would be hard to get to. Wonder if these guys actually build their own coils? For me to get to .4 would require a lot of wraps with 32ga and probably would need to wrap it directly around the rayon. Forget about .4 on a dual build. They recommend up to a 1.0 build. How could you even hit that? It would have been better if they lowered the target to .1 Then you could use 26-28ga for easier builds, and get duals with 30ga. Seems like all it would take is a software fix. Maybe the TP doesn't play as nice with lower gauges. It would be interesting to hear from them how they hit the typical .4 target.
Thanks for verifying that.
The trials of the rDNA 40 continued late into the evening last night. I built something like 20 different nickel coils and scrapped each one of them. I decided it was time to go back to basics - perhaps I've always been a crappy coil builder but it never showed with Kanthal. I reviewed some of my favorite "how to coil / macro / micro" and did my best to replicate their techniques. I replicated that process and was more successful around coil 24.
I made a contact coil and did dry burn (with TP on 450) and just sort of fiddled with it for a bit. Then - like magic, the KFL+ was able to fire to 15 watts without a problem. I also stuffed a LOT of cotton in that build, for good measure. It was working all through the night! Cheers! 5am and I'm vaping like a fiend until I fall asleep.
I wake up the next day, that same coil reads -.02 off the build resistance (.15, down from .17). I try to fire.. it hits TP at 7watts. Frowny face. I notice though that it seems a little flooded (gurgle). It hasn't leaked at all ,but a little flooded to say the least. Perhaps this accounted for the change in res?
I build about 5 more SPACED coils for two other tanks. To of the new coils appear worthy. I slap one in my other KFL+ and one in my K4.
The K4's resistance reads .34 when it should read something closer to .20. Sadface. It vapes well though without hitting TP even set as low as 410degrees. It's probably just burning something. I set it aside. Pick it up a few minutes later - .24. ... it's still vaping into the 16watt range without difficulty.
KFL+ #2, which I just built this morning, reads .17 and vapes well. I set it down, and in rotation, pick it back up. It's hitting TP at 4watts. ...
I pick back up KFL+ #1, which as I said, I built last night. It's resistance has gone BACK to .17, and it's vaping like a champ.
I should mention that I've been having the MOST luck by doing a 360degree wrap around the post screws. I don't know why but just half-wrapping them I've been having trouble keeping the Ni300 from slipping out or hanging on the outer edge of the screw instead of staying in the inner part of the screw.
.... maybe I'm just a garbo builder.
