#1 Last year, my unhealthy lifestyle landed me in the hospital. I was released New Years Day, 2013. Over the past year, I stopped smoking and drinking, got back up to a healthy weight, cut a ton of stress out of my life, and started eating better.

First goal of 2014 - Swim laps, even if it's just a few a day, at least 3 times a week. I live on Maui, there's a public pool 20 minutes walk from my house, and I'm on disability, so I really have nothing better to do anyway.

I want to remember to talk less and listen more. Sometimes the other person isn't looking for a solution or an opinion and just want to be "heard."

I like this, for me I've been working on practicing my listening skills. There are 3 type of listening.

1) formulating a reply as the other person is talking.

2) agreeing with everything thing the other person is saying.

3) Listening with a Huh..and just being present with someone weather you agree or disagree.

In the first two ways we allow no new information to come through. Only in the third are we open to learn and grow.:rickroll:

Thanks, Mike! That's very insightful! I'm guilty of #1, but more of a "are they leaving anything out/missing any points?" Then I speak it and I don't think it helps the matter any or is what the person is looking for. The "huh" listening is going to be difficult for me, but I think that it will be the most helpful and get me into the least amount of trouble. Not to mention, the learning and growing. ;) Small steps here. :)

One of my wants to do this year is coming true (kind of). I just made a baked mac n'cheese with heavy cream, monterey jack and panko. While I'm cooking, I don't think it'll help my hips any.
