I've spent way more than he has... I must be a troll too.

I think the guy just really wanted to quit but ran headlong into reality.

Nope, that is not the reason I think it sounds suspicious. According to your banner, you would spend almost $3000 per year smoking. He would spend $360 per year dipping. Now, if you had to "cough up" $3000 just to start doing this, would you be suddenly shocked 3 months later that it was expensive and wonder why no one warned you of the cost?

I think the guy just really wanted to quit but ran headlong into reality.

Well, let's hope that he took his frustration out on us and not his kids!

Lil' story fer ya'll:

Seventeen years ago I quit cold turkey by my own choosing. Day-um, I was miserable. After four weeks I told my bride that I was thinking about starting smoking again. She encouraged, "Give it a while longer." Well, six weeks later, after gaining 27 pounds and making life miserable for everyone around me, family, friends, coworkers, acquaintances AND strangers, I told my bride that I was gonna start smoking again. Her response, "Please do!"

My three daughters, young teens at the time, have since then told me that those ten weeks were the worse in their lives. WHOA! Well, recently I knew I HAD to quit but didn't want to put anyone through my misery again. HOT DAY-UM, found this site and made a few well informed purchases, thanx to the wonderful folk here.

Here I am after 45 years of two PaD, two months in on a freakin' fantastic journey; tobacco free, no stomped kittens, no road rage and even lost a couple of pounds.

I don't relate my experience as an excuse nor alibi for my posting here. I tell my story to give encouragement for those looking for FREEDOM from tobacco. If there was ever a 'poster boy' for why and how to quit, here I is!

Soooo, I do take umbrage when anyone takes the time and effort to 'stroke' and then backhand those that are here for them and their welfare. Hey, wouldn't you do that for your 'family'? Thought so...

Thanx to ya'll for being here!

Well, as a broke dude, I can say I planned out the initial investment with care, thanks to this forum.

Here's something I've learned, though. This isn't smoking. This is different. I found that, by approaching it with an open mind, and not expecting the pv to be a cigarette, or even a replacement for the annys, I've come to find vaping... different. The cigarettes don't even compare, really. Smoke is different than vapor, taste is different, nicotine intake, et cetera-- just a completely different thing altogether, really.

It takes more work than just going to the store and buying a pack-- and I don't think that will ever change, even if there's a vape shop on every corner: taste is subjective, as concerns flavor, and the look and performance of your pv.

Some people get a shop full of tools for every occasion; some get by with a leatherman, some duct tape, some electrical tape... and the number of the friend with the shop.:p

Some people collect books on every subject, spanning several languages; some have a few favorites in hardcopy, and a ton of .pdf's and .doc's.

You can spend as much as you'd like, vaping. For my part, even if I had the cash, I'm not too interested in that. Love reading and seeing pics of all the new-fangled mods:drool: but I've got my plan: sit tight on this 1100eGo; wait for when that one mod that I actually want comes back into production, reward myself by blowing all the money I've saved by then on that top quality mod, and be done with it--- don't have the cash, nor time, to dabble with this, that, and the other; some folks do . And I've every confidence my plan will succeed, thanks to what I've learned here. Now, if I was into trying out new toys... and had the cash for it... I'd know what I was getting into, because of this site. But, with discipline, I'm certain that I can make it on the cheap-- because of this site.

It does take work, in one form or another, but for those who make the commitment to switch to vaping, this site is golden.

And, when that desire for an anny kicks in, as it will, it's good to pass that time vaping, reading, and maybe even posting here.

I guess it depends on who you are. I spend about $25.00 every two weeks (cartos and liquid combined) but I only vape about 15ml a week.

I have an FS ego ad I don't have to modify my cones to use cartos...at least not the ones I'm using (mega cartos from madvapes).

My orginal 510 magma from vaolcano is still in working order. I actually won my ego in a contest and bought hubby one from madvapes for father's day.

I'd say since april we have spent about $500.00 some of that on my daughter (about $60.00).

So in over 8 weeks for two people who were spending $140.00 a week on cigs it has been an improvement for us.

Now I buy cartos and juice usually just our all days once or twice a month I'll try a new flavor... *shrugs*

Sounds like you've had a run of bad luck to me.

I think that you're right- PVs are probably not the ideal thing for you to quit dipping with. They're great for us smokers- but for someone without the hardcore hand-to-mouth fixation we have, I can't imagine them being all *that* useful. They are fiddly and annoying especially if you don't luck onto your perfect vape right away. Personally, a bottom feeder mod (Reo Mini) plus an atty and DIY liquid was great for *me*... but a dipper? Eh. Yeah, I can see that an "e-cigarette" could drive you batty and as a special bonus, not really replace what you wanted it to.

If I were you and you have a hard time quitting the dip cold turkey from here on out, maybe try the gum next? (Assuming you haven't already of course.) If that doesn't work, *then* maybe go for another go with a PV.

If you ever find yourself in that position- considering dipping again- I'd suggest trying a cheap bottom feeder like Old Goat's ($30ish, plus batteries and a charger), some plain ol' atties. Atties last longer, and are much less clutter than cartos, and work great with a bottom feeder. And are cheaper. (And they work better with VG liquid which is thicker.)

DIY- which it sounds like you dipped your toe in, but didn't really get too far along with- is by far, *far* and away, the cheapest way to get juice. I just bought some nic liquid here: Unflavored nicotine liquid which is cheaper by *far* than juice from a vendor. And you can get decent flavorings from here: Premium Signature Flavors | ecigExpress (their "Signature Flavors" are Perfumer's Apprentice flavors, which are a good value for your $ at $5.50 for an ounce). Plus some USP grade propylene glycol from someplace like Walmart and you're good.

I do absolutely agree those "DIY" kits have a bunch of crap you don't really need and are overpriced IMO. I've found a graduated cylinder, some bottles, and a syringe or three has been plenty to get me rolling with DIY.

I'd let go of trying to find a tobacco flavor that tastes like tobacco. I've found that to be fruitless, and not really what I want a juice to taste like anyway with so many other options out there.

Hopefully, you won't need any of that stuff and will find quitting a breeze now that you've broken the habit with PVs. Good luck.

Quitting dip was harder than you could imagine. What made it awesome was you could do it anywhere since it's not a "lighted tobacco" and so far the do-gooders in politics who hate bad habits haven't been able to make a law against it. Getting dip in South America or other places is almost impossible. I had to have my family ship me some. In Colombia, you can get "weed" before you could find cigarettes or chewing tobacco. If you do find a cigarette, it's probably "Basuco", el cigarrillo de marihuana y la cocaína

lol... How did I get on this topic?

I have 4 extra kimble 20025 class b 100mL graduated cylinders with bump guards, unused. They cost about $80 for a pack of 4 back in... 1995 or so when I bought them. If you know anyone that wants them I'll trade the box of 4 for 30mL of 12-16mg Tobacco flavored ejuice. Since I'm here in NC for a short period of time this is a limited offer. I'll be in the Islands as soon as the passports get back from being updated (photos). That could be 5 weeks from today. I am willing to trade on an honor policy. I could ship USPS priority if it doesn't cost too much. It seems things are getting ridiculous, doesn't it?

Sorry, I admit that I didn't read through all the posts first, but I'll make my post short. I agree with the OP on the sticky for new people. There should be a picture that shows a generic version of an ecig, the different parts, and an internal drawing of what's inside and how it works. Nothing fancy, just like, a battery, an atty where you can see the coil inside, and a cart with the polyfil that shows when you put all 3 together it makes vapor. Maybe even include drawings of cartos and drip tips with a brief explanation of each. Keep it generic. Most noobs don't start out with mods, so I don't think these would need to be included. By the time they're ready to move to a mod, they probably already know how they work anyway. But below this, make a chart that shows the different models of ecigs and what parts go with what. Would be very very helpful for a noob to go look at a chart, say oh, this ecig has all these options (cartos, attys, tanks, clearos etc), now let me go find a dealer who has a good price on this. But instead, right now, we have to dig through 100s of posts to find any useful info at all. That's my $.02

All I could find is this Wiki page. I hope it helps.

Dario, if you are concerned about the health effects of dipping, please don't be. You are hundreds of times less likely to suffer any ill-effects compared to a smoker. Dipping is like comparing someone who drinks three bottles of vodka a day to someone who drinks three bottles of water a day. You are drinking water. The dangers that are preached about smokeless tobacco products like you are using are hysterical, propaganda nonsense. SMOKE is deadly, dipping is not. Compared to smoking, dipping is virtually harmless, just like vaping is virtually harmless. For more information about smoke-free alternatives please see CASAA.org

Dario, here's the link to CASAA. CASAA | The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-Free Alternatives Association
One of the biggest ongoing myths / lies about tobacco is that there's no safe way of using it. Nothing could be further from the truth. The so-called health groups have been lying about this for at least 20 years. They keep telling us that no matter whether you smoke it or chew it or whatever you do with it, it will kill you all the same. It's a lie and it will always be a lie. The only way to LIKELY kill you is to smoke it. The people at CASAA have all the truthful, science-based info on this. Feel free to ask any questions you wish.
Best wishes to you my friend, ~ Nicko

Can't dipping cause mouth cancer and gum/teeth problems and have other side effects?

Yes, but the risk is very small compared to smoking. Please visit CASAA | The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-Free Alternatives Association

All we can really look at is risk factors. From what I have read, smokeless tobacco products are not to be feared. I'm no expert at all, but the people at CASAA certainly are. They have all the scientific data, in easily understood format for all to read. And they are happy to answer all questions.

I had a family member had to have his lower jawbone removed due to dipping. Not sure I'd comfortably say that dipping is completely healthy for you with absolutely no health risks....

This is a bit of a newb question, but I am only into my 2nd day of getting settled on this forum. What is the difference between dipping and dripping? Do they both carry the same risk? I assume not, if they are two very different things. I assume (as a newb) that they are the methods used to get the juices into the e-cig, but it doesn't make much sense to me that a method would be a cause for damaging or unhealthy side effects, but rather a chemical in the e-cig...

Right? I don't know... Anyone else can chime in here, of course.

I don't think I said that dipping is without risk. I'm sorry if I implied that, and I'm very sorry that your family and your relation went through that awful thing. I said that smoking is a BIGGER risk for that. If you get conflicting info from CASAA.org I will be surprised. ALL the directors of CASAA are long-time contributing members of this forum. Nothing is completely without risk, but from what I know, smoking is the biggest risk factor for mouth cancer, not smokeless tobacco products.

People say poly-fiber is in carts. That would be a polymer made from coal which means it has some unintentional Dioxin units. I think it has a smoke point of 220 f / 104 C. It's been a while so I may not be right. Anyway, I ran a burn test on the fabric from my cart and it tested as fiberglass. I guess it's possible to burn the fiber in a cartomizer but I think you'd have to try hard. In any event, if you did vape the burning fiber you'd much rather have fiberglass than any polymers burning. That's why I don't understand why people put polymer fiber in an ecig cart as a mod. That really seems dangerous to me. I could be wrong though... I'm sure some experts have already touched this topic. I could even be wrong saying it is fiberglass.

Anyway... I veered off topic again. I just wanted to say that carcinogens love soft tissue and chewing tobacco may be safer but from what I know it isn't really much safer. Not to mention you get a much larger dose of artery hardening nicotine. Wasn't Nicotine a rat poison? Thanks for the reply!

Dipping is worse than smoking health wise. I did both, and a few years back I had to go get the inside of my lip biopsied (spelling?) because my dentist saw abnormal growths there. Scared the heck out me, but everything tested ok. He said that because the tobacco is so close to your jaw bone(less than an 1/8 of an inch) it was a perfect scenario for cancer to spread rapidly and that when it does its all over pretty fast if they didn't remove half your face in time. So yeah that was the end of my dipping days but man it tasted good while it lasted...

American dip still contains cancer causing agents, but the swedish snus is prepared differently.

quote:
Around 2005 several reports, partially funded by the snus industry, pointed to the fact that no carcinogenic effects could be attributed to Nordic snus and this resulted in the removal of the warning label that claimed snus could cause cancer.

dipping in the tobacco world is when you put a wad of moist tobacco under your lip, dipping in the vaping world is when you dip the exposed atomizer into some e-liquid and vape that way. Dipping in the tobacco world causes cancer, dipping in the vaping world does not.

dripping is only for vapers, it's when you drip e-liquid into your atomizer.
