I received my fasttech ss order today
316 in 22,24 and 26
304 in 24 and 26
Have just tried the 22 316 and in reality impressed, the resistance is close to half of kanthal so I did a single instead of a parallel I used to make.

The ramp up time is impressive and the taste is really clean. I think I'm done with kanthal, week except for the premade ud Claptons I have
I honestly can't find a fault with it but time will tell how it behaves in the long run

Same here - happily doing single coils now. I got my 316L from EVCIGARETTES but I see more and more online vendors carrying it so it should be hitting local shops soonish (I hope).

I'm not a cloud chaser or into complex builds but, have you seen any stainless twisted?

Hello I just want to know for a fact. Can you use 304/316ss on a vv/vw device or a mech mod? From what I am reading in here it seems like you can I just want to know for sure.
Yes I use it on mechs and love it, much better than kanthal

Been searching for a suitable ss wire to try since I dont want to order from fasttech and found this
Stainless Steel Wire Economy Grade You Pick by UnkamenSupplies
Could any of you fine people confirm that this wire is suitable for vaping? I intend to try this on a mechanical device so I'm not worried about using it for temp control.
He also sells this which appears to be 316
Round Jewelry Grade Stainless Steel Wire by UnkamenSupplies

For some reason I am partial to the 304. I have no data or anything to back me up, except that the extra 'moly-whatsthisthing' that makes 316l easier to weld with might not be something i want to vape.

I should add that I've been a long time user of N80 and love it. The only reason I want to try SS is that it purportedly gunks less and according to a post I saw in this thread SS might be a 'safer' option.
Appreciate your feedback...

I can't peak for that SS Wire. But Unkamen is where I have bought my Titanium Grade 1 Wire.

Here is there Website.

I wanted to give a visual of the SS wire durability I've been talking about, this pictured build(top left pic) is over a month old and this was only the second time I've dry burned and re-wicked it. No scrubbing or chipping away of any debris was involved, I pulled the wicks out and ran the coils under cool water while firing them and all of the scale and gunk slides right off, fire once more to dry it out and re-wick is all I ever do any more. I have builds much older than this that still dry burn clean and leave no trace on the wire, there is also no pitting or surface damage to speak of on the outside surface of the coils, performance doesn't change with age so long as you keep an eye on the gunk and clean it when it gets to be too much for you.

Personally I believe Kanthal and Nichrome will lose some popularity for those switching over to 304 or 316 Stainless steel wire, there isn't nearly as much experience with SS wire as of right now but I feel that will soon change as others discover the good properties of SS wire for vaping.

I've been playing with SS for couple weeks now but not in TL mode. I reached out for Ralph at unkamensupplies and he sent me back this information

The 28 gauge nickel free is 430.
The economical wire and artistic brand is 304: Stainless Steel Artistic Wire – Unkamen Supplies
This is 316L in 22, 24 and 26: Round Stainless Steel Wire - Jewelry Grade - You Pick Gauge 14, 16, 18 – Unkamen Supplies
I have 317L coming in soon: Preorder SALE - 317L Stainless Steel Wire - 100% Guarantee - You Pick – Unkamen Supplies

I've been loving this SS 316l. I have a dual 8 wrap on 2.5 bit 26 gauge in the goblin mini with the DNA200 tcr set to SS 316l and WOW. I didn't think this goblin mini could get better but when I put this build in it I was blown away. And its regulating the power perfectly with TC, just vaped the tank dry with no issues. :thumb:

For all of those interested, I've found a source for 316L wire that is not bulk welding wire and is available from 18G all the way to 40G. Babcock surgical suture wire is what I'm talking about, the specifications state it is 316L. I just put an order in for some 40G so I can try a 316L on 304 SS clapton coil build, one of my primary hold ups for using a clapton style coil is that I didn't want to use nichrome or kanthal for the outer wraps, now I don't have to!

Found that same page the other day and have been waiting for payday to pick up some high gauge for the same reason, SS Claptons.

Awesome! Took me about an hour of solid google-fu searching to finally come across a stainless steel wire which is cheap enough and small enough, prior to that website I landed on an electronic tube store which sells 304 SS in several useful sizes as well, though I was looking for 38G or 40G so I eventually found that germedusa site.

Here's a link to that electronic tube store for the 304 SS in case anyone is interested, they have 14, 20, 24, 30, 32 and 36G 304 SS wire http://electrontubestore.com/index....ath=57_1_275&zenid=mup95to3mh8m3tskr2jq43ckt7

Cool. Looks like they have a Large Range of Gauges.

I noticed that the Sell it by Weight. Which is the norm for buying Metals. But somewhat Awkward when buying Wire. In that, the Gauge and Length is what most buyers are looking for.

Here is the Open Form formula to convert Weight (Ounces) into Length (Feet) for a given Gauge.

---

Let 1 cubic Inch of Stainless Steel = .2860 Lbs. So 1oz of SS = .2185 cubic Inches.

Since the Volume of a Cylinder is defined by:

V = (pi(D/2)^2) x Li

such that D = Diameter of the in Inches and Li = Length of the wire in Inches.

then

V = (pi(D/2)^2) x Li => Li = V / (pi(D/2)^2)

Since wire Lengths are usually expressed in Feet, lets apply a Scalar of 1/12 to Left Hand side to equate the Units.

so

LF = ( V / (pi(D/2)^2) ) /12

Appling a Volume of .2185 cubic Inches for V at 1oz for SS yields the Open Forum Formula for Ounces to Feet for a Wire with a Diameter of D.

LF = ( (.2185 / (pi(D/2)^2) ) /12

---

Thus. For 1oz of 28ga (.012") SS Wire, the Length should be....

LF = ( (.2185 / (pi(.012/2)^2) ) /12

=> LF = 160.9970 Feet

BTW - If it is Too Early in the Mourning to be Doing Math, you can use this Online Calculator and find the Length using the "By Guess and By Golly" method for .0625 lbs.

So i'm a little lost when it comes to SS16 does it work well in TC? What Ni200 setting / Ti settings are the best for approx 400F vaping and is there a need to run this stuff in TC any reason not to just use good old watts?

I haven't used much SS in TC Mode. So I'm not sure what a Relative Temperature setting would be?

And Yes, you can Run SS in regular Watt Mode.

Cheers, I realized it would be 'safe' to run in regular mode thankfully SS is as safe as it get for all i know (sounds really weird after watching a WW2 movie)
I was simply intrigued why people wanted to run it in TC it always ends up being a hassle for me something shifts the ohms and my vape experience is destroyed I really do like the vape of TC the instant hit then the stead flow of vapour however it often turns to frustration at least in my experience

I was sort of hoping someone smarter than me had created a nice table like the one for kanthal/NI 200 Twisted coils but for SS16 anyway thanks for the insight look forward to giving it a go soon!
