I received a roll of 28 A-1 Kanthal yesterday and tried a 2-3 wrap and a 1-2 wrap on a 30mm #400 in my Line V2 and couldn't even get it to fire for more than a few seconds before it would just peter out on a twist at 4.8 volts. I put it on my Opus at 12 watts and got nothing at all. Any advice on this? Wrong devices for a coil for this magnitude?

I threw a 5-6 wrap of Nichrome 32awg on the same wick and it freaking rocks! So much flavor.

What was the resistance of these extreme coils?

I would say that is way too low resistance of a load for an ego twist, and probably the opus too. I personally wouldn't put below a 1 ohm coil on anything, including a mechanical mod with AW IMR batteries. Too much amperage approaching dangerous levels for even the highest quality batteries. I found that 4 wraps at 30awg kanthal gave me 1.1ohms, so 2 wraps of 28awg is probably less than .4 ohms. Be careful man...

Doesn't resistance increase with gauge? More material = more resistance, so not only does length come into play, but the girth (gauge of the wire).

Correct me if I am wrong.

So, you are saying I should wrap the 28awg at least 6-8 times? Seems like way to much for that gauge. But maybe I just can't fully wrap my head around this yet.

I also received 30awg kanthal yesterday too. I'll have to try that on tonight.

So far I am liking the Ni more then Kanthal

Just the opposite, thicker wire, less resistance...you're getting more water out of a bigger pipe :)

Larger wire = lower resistance. More material = easier for electrons to flow. Sort of like a large hose = more liquid will flow. However the longer the wire, the more resistance as the electrons have more distance to travel.

See this thread for detailed info: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo.../320042-resistance-wire-kanthal-nichrome.html

My sweet spot at the moment is 5 wraps of 30awg @ 1.4 Ohms on my P+.

And to get back on topic, I just rolled my first wick with #500 mesh, and Boba's is really wicking well in the DID with the fill screw in. I am very happy atm.

using IMR batts that can handle 30 amps, so no worries here, but thanks for looking out for us!

Even on an 18350? I was under the impression that the max constant discharge rate was around 6A or so... Although on an 18650, it is likely far greater.

Please educate me...

It says right on the Mesh companies website what size the wholes are I believe, it's only more per square inch when you go up to 500 from 400, but the whole size is the same appature = 0.039mm

These are the specs I saw on the Mesh company website ...
Specifications are as follows:

Mesh Count: #400 mesh - 400 wires or holes per linear inch.
Wire Diameter: 0.025mm
Aperture: 0.039mm - this is the hole size and it is square
Open Area %: 36.8%

and

Mesh Count: #500 mesh - 500 wires or holes per linear inch.
Wire Diameter: 0.025mm
Aperture: 0.026mm - this is the hole size and it is square
Open Area %: 26%

Keep reading this thread, but I'm still the only person who has had zero success so far with the 500.

Wicking is not great and flavor is very muted compared to the same devices with a thin wick.

What Genesis are you using ob?,& by thin do you mean thin wall fat wick, thin wall thin wick or thin wall thin wick or..... well you know.

I have made them for a zenesis, a cobra and a bliss.

I have made them from 70mm to 100 mm and used 32g and 28g with anywhere between 4-6 wraps.

I have used 3.7 v devices but also have tried them on a provari.

No success on any of them.

sorry to hear Ob, very strange!
