Yesterday I cleaned and dry burned the 30g 635 on the aga and it looked like this.

Today after three tanks of Bobas VG. I conclude with Bobas it is daily cleaning.

Some conclusions as I have strolled thru many threads and read hundreds of different mesh stories and ways to roll, to each his own and happy vaping. I had watched videos of greats like Zen with 325 and 400 mesh state that you had to tip and it was better if the wick was on the bottom side of the tank as you tipped, it would get wetter there. So my goal was to find a SS mesh that would really wick, the 500 almost did and will in any rba that the juice is not more than 2 inches below the coil, above that it starts to slow down. In a race the 635 wick was wet at three inches before the 500 got to 2 inches above the liquid line. A 2.5 to 3 mm dia 100mm to 120mm wick seems to be the best as any thicker does not improve the saturation on the coil wires. So for me I have found the 635 best and now have it on 1 Line, 2 Dids, 2 Chids, 2 Vivi Tanks and an AGA-T. All are vaping great in any position and never a dry hit. So for me, I reached my quest, as Don Quijote would say. Now on to the quartz tubing......

Just a note. The first wick I rolled had a bad taste even though I oxidized it. It seems the China mesh has a lot more machining oils. The rest of my mesh I washed in dish washing liquid detergent then boiled once in a solution of water and detergent, a second boil in just plain water. Have had no bad taste since doing that.

Been using the same 635, 30g coil/wick for a week, have pumped abot 60ml thru it, first Bobas and now Gorilla VG. It has been washed and dry burned 6 times. The AGA tank has a bunch of cracks but not leaking. I ordered some 20mm pyrex to cut some new tanks. Got to use the tube cutter I bought.:) The video is Gorilla VG at about 8 watts on a DNA..

Hi mate, looks like a nice setup..how's the flavor on silica sleeve?hope it's good enough..btw,where can I buy these sleeves and at what sizes for my Orion and soon to be delivered zenesis?:)

Some like the chimi wick (ss mesh slipped inside a silica sleeve), some don't. I do - it floats my vaping boat fer sure. Never have to worry about shorting issues, wicking, or doing the geni tilt when vaping.

For the dual coil Bliss RBA I drilled the wick holes to 7/64" and use the XS-116 (1/16") silica sleeve with a tightly rolled 1" piece of 500 mesh slipped inside. For the AC9 RBA, Vivi Tank and DID clone, I use the XS-18 (1/8") silica sleeve with a tightly rolled 2" piece of 500 mesh slipped inside. The Vivi Tank and DID clone I had to enlarge the wick hole to 1/8". The AC9 already has a 1/8" wick hole.

Omega sells it. They sell 2 kinds - XC (ceramic) and XS (pure silica). I only buy the XS.

If you use it, make sure you thoroughly torch it first to burn off any chemicals used in the manufacture process - it will blacken some then turn back white again. Also, you need to torch it without using any metal contact (like a paperclip inserted into the sleeving), else it will blacken and not turn back white again. Simply hold the end of the sleeving with tweezers to keep from burning your fingers. No need to torch the mesh.

My first 635 set up. I have gone thru 3/4 of the tank since I posted the following in the co-op thread, and I swear in 2 hrs the setup is seasoned. Truly vape heaven...

DID on Caravela...
I just boiled for 20 mins also, and used 85 mm as well. Jack frost oxidize, Petar K 30 ga 4/5 for 1.4Ω. I vape 6 mg so I have lots of higher nic juice left over that I cut with 0 nic juice. After I took the first few draws I realized that the juice I was vaping is a new mix I haven't tried yet. I had to drip a few drops in a dripping atty to confirm that what I was tasting was in fact as perfect as it appeared.
I have full sheets of every mesh from 200 right up thru 500 and now this 635. After we got well into this co-op I was afraid that the 635 was going to only be as much better than the 500 as all the other sizes were than their preceding sizes. Well that is clearly not the case. We all know that every now and then you build a setup that is 1 out of lets say 10, on the quality scale and it vapes flawlessly. So even if that is the case with this setup, the flavor rivals a dual genesis wick setup. Those of you that have had the pleasure of vaping a dual genny setup know what I mean. Even if I get 3 months out of this one wick, I will be satisfied with my purchase. Obviously I paid $5.15 less than our US members, but even if I paid what our international members paid I would feel the same way.
I will be setting up a couple more attys in the next few days to test this theory. I only hope that the rest of you can get "this" level of vape out of your setups.

Thank you BJ43 for once again, steering us in the right direction.

I posted this yesterday in Kwalkas co=op thread:

I've got the 635 all set up, ended up with 85mm in my DID and 40mm in a clone, both with 5/6 wrap 28 awg coils. Had the coils set up already and they were working so well I just pulled the old wicks, dry burned the coils, and inserted the new wicks. I boiled the mesh in distilled water for about 20 minutes, did a quick JF burn and rolled them until they fit the coils. Did one more quick burn at the top where the coils sit, and fired them up. The DID on a Provari threw some E1 errors at first so I moved it to a 3.7 mod until it decided to behave. They are both working great now, I got no off taste from the mesh but the flavor is still a little muted, hoping that works itself out as they break in. The vapor is superior to the 500 I was using and the wicking is fantastic, they are both hissing and spitting like crazy. I hope everyone else enjoys it as much as I am, thanks again Ken.

Like Kens, these have really started to break in well, the flavor is coming along nicely now. BJ43, I appreciate all the effort you put into testing and stretching the boundaries and a big thanks to Ken for making the co-op happen.

My vapor production and flavor was starting to falter this morning after my DID sat overnight and the coil solidified. I have a very dark tobacco in there. Not as thick as bobbas, but every bit as dark. So FTR I vaped about 2.5 mls in about 4ish hrs last night, and this morning I had to pull the wick, just hit it w a lighter. Quick dry burn of the coil and dropped the wick back in and we are like new again.

For the 10 simple minutes of maintenance to bring the setup back to new. I'm ok doing this once or twice a day. Today we will see just how long I can get out of the setup.

Ready...

Have the same issue with the Bobas and my DIY Opus X. Worth the extra cleaning though.:toast:

Here is the setup after about 5 mls in 9 hrs. It was clean as a whistle when I started this morn. Just spent 10 mins refreshing it and am ready to go again.

BJ43,
I also, by chance started rolling with the grain. Now that I removed a whole strip from the sheet the next one I will go the opposite direction.

I was instructed to try cutting the wicks out of the sheets on the bias. I did a few with the 500 and did not notice much if any improvement. The 635 is too expensive to sacrifice the waste for that practice. This was a couple months ago by a member that I later found out was not very experienced.

NOTE:

This morning I setup my Chobra with 75 mm of 635 in a 2mm hole. It took me about 45 mins to get the wick tight enough to fit. The darn thing is a solid as a nail now. It took about an hour before it was ready to vape. I dropped the wick in basically dry and let the capillary action feed the coil, instead of dripping juice like normal. After the juice caught up the thing is vaping like a monster. IDN which is better the DID which has about a 1mm hole in the wick or the solid Chobra wick.

how to determine the grain?

On the piece that I have there are lines going in one direction only. Those lines indicate the direction of the grain. Also when I boil then jack frost it it "curls" a lot in the directiom of the grain. Mine curls so much that I have to make a fold at the beginning and end so it holds flat to be rolled against the direction of the curl.
