I was just about to hit confirm on my order when my brain fart cleared & I remembered that the US dollar is only worth half what the pound is. $30 is a bit more than I can spend on an experiment right now
*sigh* I miss the good Ol' days when the Dollar was the strongest currency in the world.
Just made a 22 mm bottle of this design. Works Great Dan ! I haven't used the SS mesh yet because the CE2 I used was fairly new. So far no leaks and had to dremel sand down the top washers (home depot 3/8M faucet washers) because the diameter of the cheap top tube is greater than the atty connector, but only slightly.
I will be doing this with 7/8 OD 3/4 ID acrylic tube but will make delrin bottom plug for it.

Ok. So I made one of these, First one the mesh has a fairly large center opening.
Dont wick well at all. Burnt, no flavor.
Made another, mesh has almost no opening in center.
Insane amount of vapor, But hardly any flavor.. and dont wick as fast as I require. hehe.
I'm using 325 mesh. 2.6 OHM.
What am I doing wrong? Does anyone have a pic of what the inside of the wick opening should be?
I think this is my problem.

I did one without the tank....bent the wick down the stock tube it wick's fine with the #400 mesh....but it's only been a few minutes..I'm crossing My fingers it'll last more than an hour.If it holds up I'll do a tank..It easily bests the stock wick so far.I'm concerned the mesh touching the tube when it gets low melting it.
lexi60 - worth the effort isn't it? I think the tighter roll makes a difference also. Have you tried 400x400 mesh yet? That's always seemed to work best for me with 100% VG.
I also found it seems to do better at flavor. Check out Lorderos33's post 3195 in the Genesis thread for discussion of juice viscosity and wicking. That might help.
The SS wick doesn't transfer heat very far, so I don't think it would melt the tube. By bent, is it still round or did it get an abrupt kink?
My 400 is on its way.

While it is ok.
Cartos have better flavor.
There's got to be something wrong.

Interesting... I've only used the 400, so can't compare to the 325. I thought there was a better flavor with the ss.
I roll my wick really tight. Once I’ve got it started and taking shape (I use an aluminum knitting needle about 2mm thick) I remove the knitting needle, lay it on a cutting board and roll it tighter with a flat block of wood – gets really tight, but not so that it’s not flexible.
The nichrome/kanthal was just snug - fitting the form of the tube. I have seen some experiment with an open coil that the wick goes through, but it doesn’t touch… haven’t tried that myself.

Update: tank started leaking thru the bottom around connector and had to tear it apart. I think that my washer for the connector was a wee too big in diameter for the bottle and caused it to pucker up on one side. Bummer.

The regular wicks just fall apart from sitting in the ejuice , after a while they just become to brittle and fall apart.
Dan, (Idea) what if you made a dual coil with this set up ? is it possible, since your the king on this set up I want you to try making this and see how it works ?
It still works and it did kink..the only problem so far is I put some Atomic Cinnamon in and it turned the juice very dark and it clogged somewhat. I had to take it apart and wash it.I did a dry burn with it out of the tube and it's working again.
after about 2 hours of trying to get just 1 done I've given up. $50 wasted it seems.
Update:
Ok so after walking away from it and watching a movie I went back for another stab at it. I just used an unused looped wick CE2 instead of trying to solder new nichrome on an old CE2. I just disconnected the positive wire from the center post. It's working thankfully, walking away from it gave me some time to think about the possible problems. I think the main problem is that I need better flux or rosin core solder. The second is that while it is working it's just not working all that great, I think that's more a result of me not rolling the mesh tight enough though. I used a juice i don't really like because I didn't want to risk good juice in case I screwed something up so I can't really speak on "taste" per-say but I can say there's no metalic taste that I can pick up. Vapor production even with me rolling the wick too loose is not too bad actually.

Soldier, soldering nichrome is just a pain anyhow. The J-hook method Dan used gives the solder something it wants to stick to, the wire, while encasing the nichrome in solder itself.
I ordered 3 sheets myself since it was buy 2 get 1 free & they sent 5. The cost was 15.82 GBP which converts to $27.12 USD with shipping.
So it would seem. I just wish I had payed more attention to the description when I ordered my silver solder, it's not rosin core & the flux that came with it is acid based so it's unusable for e-cig applications. And I'm too broke atm to go by more stuff

I use this with rosin core silver solder. Be careful this contains Zinc chloride and is corrosive and can causes burns.
