I definitely expected some hazard to teflon use but certaily not as much as I've learned. I had no idea as to it's predominance in society. I am going to remove the link I put up earlier to avoid misinformation.

This is certainly an eyeopener.
Is Teflon safe? (June 2006)

Better to have all the information than only parts of it. It's not your responsibility to keep others safe; we all are adults and (should) have the right to kill ourselves anyway we deem fit. That said, I'd add a warning to the post; not remove it altogether. Just an opinion, folks! (I was kidding about the guinea pigs; hope that wasn't an indicator. I can get way too silly sometimes).

The breakdown temperature is way higher than any PV SHOULD reach. Well, a truly well-engineered one, anyway.

The same circuitry that's in a simple soldering station would make a world of difference. A DC-DC converter, a thermocouple and thermocouple amplifier chip controlled with a simple microcontroller would be much more 'advanced' than any APV I've seen out there for sale.

I emailed the eBay seller regarding the 27 ga., ~8 Ohm/ft. Nichrome and received the following reply.

Thank you for your interest in our wire. It has been checked and rechecked, This subject has came up before, it was checked using ohms law after actual current measuements and useing a HP 3455A VOM in 4 wire mode, and the reason that it reads that way is because the wire is a special mix. Many years ago I had a hand in the design of a heat element used in a crock pot. I bought this wire made this way. If you are not satified in anyway with the wire please return it, or if you are unsure of our specs. I will be glad to reverse the sale.
Regards
E.Fredrich

27 ga. enameled Nichrome arrived today. It is easier to handle than the 28 ga. 30 ga. Kanthal I have been using...not near as stiff. So far it seems to be working okay on a previously made U-wick. I'm awaiting more SS Mesh.

I haven't been keeping up-to-date with this thread...

Could any friendly spirit out there please put me up to date...!?

Basically, last time I read, people were just getting their tubes, quartz ones or something like that I believe, and I fell asleep there, heee! So, what happened? What has Revolver missed!?

=)

Here is my take on the status:

1) Dan first presented in his OP a renewed interest in a configuration that was explored a while back. You can research "Wizard Stick" here on ECF to get an idea.
2) Dan's initial results were reported as good and vapable
3) Many people ordered tubes; first Pyrex, then Fused Quartz
4) A few people of the many that order product actually reported their results
5) Based upon posts; mixed results were reported. Some reported ~60% vapor production compared to standard genny; others reported back equal vapor production (me :2cool:); other could not get any vapor production
6) People explored different air-flow configurations/atty designs to optimize as well as other tweaks
7) A few people spun-off efforts in different directions such as using sealed coils inside fused quartz tube, etc. that are working well.
8) Either people moved-on with this threads idea, or could not get this to work at all or perhaps some are still testing and will report more results

My take :2c: I could great vapor production. This issue for me was not vapor production, it was the quality of the vapor being produced. I found that the vapor was more smooth sizzle than coil-on-mesh fireworks. Based upon how the evaporation-condensation cycle occurs in our currently configured atomizers, the vapor is different. I describe it as being smooth, very tasty, pure and even. Coil-on-mesh produces a robust fullness that pops and give you the wow factor. Vaporization on the inside of a glass surface does not. Probably due to juice hitting a larger hot surface area rather than a focused "red-hot" coil (for lack of a better descriptor..) and a number of other factors. SS Pyrex is not bad, but I prefer the wow factor of coil-on-mesh. If you can consistently get a coil-on-mesh genny set up properly, you may not see any benefit to SS inside a glass tube. IMO

I am sure others can add more insight as well.

EDIT: Big Screen D and others are making good progress in his thread mention in the post before this.

You must be one of those trolls that likes to cause a bunch of crap in threads. Am I right? If you don't like the content of a thread, then move on. Thanks.

EDIT: Ok, sorry if that was crass, but your post is not productive at all in this thread.

I was not trying to troll or tick any one off or any thing of that nature i was just stating what i saw, I is a great idea and from what i am reading looks like a lot of people are getting great production out of it

Scuba-duba-qu. Thanks Dan & all posters !!!! I tried a 2 scubaqu coil on my did.(who needs a fill hole) I only had small 1/8"o.d. glass, my non-torched ss wick is 1/16" due to the i.d. Because it's so small, I thought 2 would be better than one. I did not see that it was better, so I dropped it back to one. It is very good. I do have a small problem with wicking. Will get some better tubes. Thanks again. (Juice in tank has become very dark, I don't know why.)

hi dan !
thanks for the thread.i am making diy tobacco flavors .. the attys clog up faster ..was looking for a fast way to clean or change and I think you got the answer with this thread. I am presently using wire rope 7 by 19 strands .also on order some ribbon kenthal which should work with your setup. mabe 2 or three inches of peaches and cream cotton in tank and instead of cleaning just pull up halv inch or so ?
heat up time is a little longer with ss wire rope to ..so no biggy
thanks for your thread and all the others to

The idea was to slide the wick in and out easily because it it does get gunky inside the tube. Cotton may work but it would be a pain to use tweezers to pull it out and then stuff in a new piece without breaking the glass. Your free to give it a go though, there is a lot of info in this thread and a lot of people where working on this concept.

What happened to this thread? Read through many, many pages... and it literally drops off in time and date.

This Pyrex glass tubing idea with SS Mesh inside sounds like it would work really great. Did this idea NOT work out at all, and people just didn't want to report it?

Nope - it didn't pan out. You want a bunch of tubing? Let me know.

Can you explain why it didn't work? Seems like this brilliant idea should work flawlessly. Did the Pyrex glass break or crack from usage? How many days did it last before needing maintenance? Did Gunking occur? Just curious as to why this great idea didn't pan out.

Sure, I'll take some tubing off your hands. I'd like to try it out myself.

My experience was that the liquid would get so hot it boiled inside the tube causing it to shoot hot liquid out of the end of the tube. Pyrex held up just fine for me, but it wasn't worth using. Since air could never hit the wick directly it caused what I would describe as a wet hit with monstrous throat hit and very little vapor. This was accompanied by hot lava like droplets of e-juice shooting out the end of the atty.
