On the serious side, don't really put a price tag on the extension of your life span. Giving us all a better chance to complete what we came here to do......
Whatever it takes to not smoke and to keep the journey exciting. You can't enrich the lives you were meant to six feet under can you?
Peace blessings and be smoke free.
Sorry about the esoteric.

I totally understand! I dont know why the money wasn't an issue when we were smoking, as it somehow felt like a necessity but vaping a luxury.

I think for me, its because I know I "could" be spending less than what I do to get my fix. But then I weigh that against the money I would have spent on cigarettes and feel justified.

For me, I have to answer to the hubs about spending too.. he smokes, so I am trying to sell him on vaping with the "its cheaper" angle. Which could or could not be true depending on how much I can restrain myself from buying everything I want.

All things in moderation though. including moderation!!!
I spent $1,400 the first two months vaping. I spent $75/month smoking. well + new pipes, + cleaning supplies, +,+,+... an average of $200/month on smoking in general. Still a LOT less for the smoking than the vaping at that point. You have to keep to a budget or you will go broke, become homeless and downgrade your health that way.
Obsession is a bad thing.
Then again, if you can AFFORD $700 a month for vaping, go hog wild!!! You just have to remember that whatever you spend on vaping, you cannot spend on other things.
My lesson is learned. as long as I stick to my vaping budget, I will break even June of 2014.
It makes it easier that I mostly DIY my juices and I have gotten a setup that works for me.
I don't need or currently want an RBA, Provari, Z-max or other half-grand mod to keep me happy. I keep myself happy by having a variety of juice flavors, not a variety of mods.
Someone else may only like a couple of juices and hundreds of mods. It's a personal journey and whatever works for you is what is best for you. Just don't expect to have your nirvana overnight. or even ever. Just find your happy. :)

From reading on ECF I gather I am a minority in this regard, but...

One of the original appeals of vaping to me was the price reduction. I went in with that mentality and never let it go, and honestly, save for a few days to get back the cost of my PV itself, I've been saving significantly from the get go and continue to do so.

I bought a ten dollar cigalike and vaped it exclusively for three months, then two ego batts and two top coil clearos and vaped those ever since. I MIGHT look into a VV batt if I find juices that need them, but haven't yet. Juice, I vape two to three mls a day and refuse to have more than three juices on hand. I don't throw anything away, even the worst juices. Still tastes better than Camel ever did.

So I quit smoking six months ago after 1 PAD for years, my vape costs so far have been about... I'll round up and call it $200. I figure I can boast actual savings of about eight to nine hundred dollars at 6mos of vaping.

It can be done!

Yeah, I gotta watch it... weird thing... as soon as I find a liquid I love... not only do I have to buy stock in it... but I have to try the same kind of flavor from 3 other vendors... I get all crazy like that - so little self control...

It's like, why not just be happy with the 14 different flavors of liquids and worry about buying more liquid in a month?

In my case, it's addiction... or addictive personality etc...

I watch myself carefully, but I slip from time to time... this past week, I have acquired about 500mls of liquid. My budget blown... I didn't exceed it... but I also used money I made from selling liquid left over from my last buying rampage... liquid that I didn't love... and I sold a few other collectibles on eBay that I won't miss... an LP... a baseball card etc (psssst... we call this rationalization)

In any case, vaping dominates my brain as much as cigarettes did... probably more.

I'm just glad I'm not addicted to $300 mods.

anyway, too much time on my hands these days and that will end in about a month... and then I can obsess over my lesson plans and coaching.

I've finally hit my pv necessities; ProVari Mini, Kamry K101 mech and an eVic for backup. Rebuilding the Protank coils is actually really easy for me, after spending a good month trying to figure out the silly AGA-T+ I finally got a good grasp of wrapping coils. Found about 4 flavors of liquid I like and using MBV's "Build-Your-Own" think I actually discovered my ADV (a butterscotch, Virginia tobacco, and Irish Cream mix). I went crazy the first couple months spending $600-700 on miscellaneous tanks and liquids that aren't getting used or vaped. Figure I got at least 250ml of liquid that I need to vape before ordering more, aside from needing to order more of the Build-Your-Own from MBV that I only did 15ml of incase I didn't like it. I may toss what liquids I have that I don't like simply to get rid of all the clutter, not sure yet. I'm setting myself to no more unnecessary purchases for a month, then a nice IBTanked tank will be my present. Hopefully I can kick the few lingering stinkies by then too (absolute necessity due to a health problem).

So all in all hopefully I can finally start saving some cash. Sure nickel and dimed myself at the beginning.

Nope not one bit of guilt for spending 10x what I did on smokes
100% AGREE. I spend it and enjoy every minute of it. And I don't have it like "THAT". I figure its my only hobby (i probably need to get a life) so I enjoy. Good thing this forum is free. I'd have a hard time choosing!

Mentally for me, it's no different than saying I'm buying a new table saw this week even though I know I shouldn't. I'm not looking for justification, just venting and wondering if others have felt the same with their vaping.

How about putting the money you are saving in a savings account, and budgeting yourself a fraction of that money for vaping gear.

At the end of the year, take the remaining funds and give your family a treat--a new TV, or an inexpensive vacation, or a big night out of dinner and a movie or something.

If you spread the savings around to your other family members, and only use a little part of it on your vape gear, it will make them appreciate your giving up smoking even more, and should help with any guilt you feel spending money on yourself... ;-)

We are a family of 7, with only my income. Not a luxurious life but we do okay. When I smoked it was 2 pad, usually between $10-12 a day, and i never really thought about the money. I have saved a ton since making the switch, but now I feel it has taken "hobby" status instead of "gotta have" the cigs had. I would spend about 70ish a week in smokes, but feel guilty spending money on additional attys, clearos, flavors, etc, even though I know it's much cheaper and better than the stinkies. I have absolutely felt this way. The other day, I spent almost $100 on new tanks and a variety of flavors (I haven't tried many so I got a bunch of sample bottles), and I felt very guilty about it, even though I'm pretty certain that all I bought will last me well over a month. I never felt guilty about buying cigarettes, even though I spent over $150/month. And even today, being one of the worst possible days short of a loved one dying (long story), I bought a pack of rather expensive cigarettes in order to rage smoke. I smoked one, put the pack away, I have no intention of having any more of them any time soon, and it still felt absolutely normal to spend $6 to have that pack of cigarettes.

Greetings ubergeek922,

Started Vaping : July 1st, 2013
Stopped Smoking : Not Applicable

Normally I spend about $ 60.00 USD a month on tobacco.
Since I started vaping (pretty much 2 weeks now) ... I've spent = $ $123.00 USD
This means that I've spent TWO MONTHS worth of tobacco for TWO WEEKS worth of vaping.
That's a MAJOR .... OUCH ! ! !

I went nuts the first few months mostly because of the FDA scare. I bought a lot of backup stuff I haven't used yet as well as around $250.00 in unvapable juices. Then around the 6 month mark things tapered off. I was happy with my setup and ADVs. Looking back on what I bought and what I would have smoking... I pretty much broke even. Now between 8 and 9 months I'm seeing real savings and have started feeling good about what I spend and my self-control.

I am WAY ahead of the game moneywise compared to smoking (let's skip that I fell back to smoking for two months...). In a year with buying tons of stuff I still am over $1500 ahead. Course I have a few other toys I spent that money on...but it's like FREE money.

Other than a few evods and little things for $90 or so to motivate me off smokes again I haven't spent a dime vaping since December and have lots of DIY supplies ready to carry me another year. Add that to the $2/pack increase we just had here and I am really saving.

i didnt even think of that if the people that have been vaping for a while took into account the price rise on their stinkies (which makes sense because if they were still smoking they would be buying them at those increased prices) the saving numbers would be even larger!

Exactly. 1.5PAD here will push $5K per year. I padded the number a few hundred to account for all the other chips and sodas I purchased because I was at the gas station already.

i was only smoking 1/2 pad so my numbers are smaller but i always look at the price of my old stinkies when in the gass station and they are up to about $9.50 a pack... insane.

I figure it like this: part of the reason vaping is so effective at replacing smokes, at least for me, IS the hobby aspect of it. Cruising around these forums, window shopping the stuff folks are talking about, hunting out the good prices for the stuff that catches my eye...this is all stuff that KEEPS MY MIND OFF SMOKING. It not only feeds the physical sensation of smoking, the nicotine fix, etc., but also provides a mental distraction that I really think makes a difference. At the end of the day, you ARE saving money over smoking, and even if you weren't, I'm sure that family of seven would much rather have YOU around and far more healthy than you would be had you stuck with smokes.
