It took me a few days but since March, when I started, I hit a few speed bumps. I bought a pack of cigarettes in June when I was under a lot of stress and smoked most of the pack, but I have put them down again and continued vaping.

I still crave the cigarettes even though they taste disgusting to me and weaken my body. I recognize that I must exercise an act of will over the cravings and not pick them up again. I have COPD and smoking is a very close life or death struggle for me and I mustn't do it. I feel rotten for days after I smoke.

1 year ago 2 packs/day .
once i found the right tasting juice(the taste as my cigs) it took 1 day to goto zero cigs.
i then went to higher nic to help w/nic dependancy.
did it on the mvp 2.0 kit w/those crappy iclear tanks, vaped about 30-50mls/week at 27mg nic.
imo so it shows that right juice and nic and half decent mod/tank will help u quit.
now im diying my juice, fruity flavs, 2mg nic stmini rba >20mls/day.
still havent had an analogue in over a year, read my sig, and i dont crave for them either.
but if i couldnt vape i would go back to smoking

For me the decision to even try vaping was the thing that took the time, when I began vaping I stopped smoking simple as that. I was never a heavy smoker though, maybe a half a pack a day, but I was starting to increase the number when I retired. Now I vape maybe 4-6ml a day. One of the many things I like about vaping is I don't have to finish vaping, one or two puffs every once in a while, unlike lightinging a cig you have to finish what's you started.

When I did this it was recommended to have a vape every time one got the urge. So, I'd vape and then have a smoke for dessert -- which soon became 1/2 a cig or less. This was particularly effective on the toughest times and biggest trigger places and routines.

I did fully switch in less than 3 weeks --- but it is true that there were "flare ups" at the most unexpected times, but I was determined to not light up again. Being able to breathe better, smell things and taste improvement were worth dealing with inevitable equipment problems, dead batteries and the like, even in the most stressful moments.

I tried multiple flavors and decided that even though I couldn't identify the tobacco flavor very well, the body seemed to like it, so I used mostly tobacco flavors for quite some time. I still often use liquids with a light tobacco base, though none of my earliest picks.

I was a 42 year very heavy chain smoker. Three years ago I started vaping on a whim. I never thought it would work; just hoped to cut down some. I was already using nic lozenges to cut back on smoking with limited success.

The effect really surprised me. I never thought it would be that easy. I quit smoking in 3 days. I never had a relapse. Oh yeah, I had days, triggers really, where I had cravings...still do...but so far it has work beautifully.

My wife took a bit longer, like a couple of weeks at 3-4 cigarettes a day.

Ya know what? I was like that for me too! As soon as I had vaped on that ridiculous flea market ecig I knew I'd found a way out of smoking. I just had to get better equipment. That miserable device lasted 2 hours before you had to charge it for 3 hours, but while it lasted I didn't need to smoke! That was all I needed. Deep down I wanted out of smoking because I knew it was killing me, and I knew it would be a very slow, painful, and miserable death. I deserved better than that, and I got it.

Once I started vaping, I quit smoking completely within a week. My triggers were also outside. Never smoked in the car or in the house. For the first few weeks, I would actually go outside to vape when a habitual craving set in. I would vape thru the crave then go back in and continue to vape. I also would hop on YouTube and watch one of my favorite vaping personalities and vape thru a craving. After two months, I didn't have those cravings anymore :)
I'm 5months smoke free.

I started vaping to quit smoking but didn't really believe it would work. I had a half carton of analogs left the day I bought my setup, and I, ya know, couldn't throw them away, that's a lot of money! So I smoked/no vaping until I had one pack left, and then I vaped and smoked after dinner and first thing in the morning, and in a few days all my cigs were gone. I didn't buy any more and just vaped and was pretty much fine until company came. Bought a pack, then another pack, then a carton. Then they were gone, and still I bought another carton. When I had a half carton left, I realized that a month after the first time I was back right where I started, so did the same thing as the first time and haven't had a cigarette since May 10. Longest time by far that I've been without a cigarette since 1989 when I was pregnant. Go me.

When I bought my new kit at the beginning of this week, I didn't ever intend to completely give up, but I've smoked far fewer analogues than I expected (only half a one yesterday and one today).

As an "all or nothing" kind of person I'm now disappointed with myself whenever I have an analogue!

My question is, for those who have given up completely, how quickly did you manage to switch to just vaping? Am I trying to do too much too fast? Yesterday my mum said I shouldn't set myself up for a fall my trying to quit cigs too quickly!

I think association is going to be a problem. I'm vaping in the bedroom / office, but only smoke outside. The trigger for having the cigarette I just smoked was walking into the garden where I usually smoke. If I'd stayed upstairs I wouldn't have had it, but I can't stay shut in my vaping den forever! I suspect it's going to prove even harder when I go to the pub...

All tips appreciated.
I just decided not to buy anymore. Gave away my last cig so I didn't stand around thinking about it all day, and made sure I had my vape with me 24/7 at first. I'm a fairly lazy person when it comes to non-have-to things like my own desires, so it got a lot easier to just vape vs going to the store for cigs. It was a mind game but still fairly easy!

In my case the decision was made for me, I was working a 6 week show and the Fire Marshall didn't allow smoking anywhere...a number of my crew mates were using various ecigs so ordered the GreenSmoke not knowing any better, we've come a long way in just a few short years, it's now hobby with benefits.

I smoked for decades and loved it. I hadn't smoked indoors for years so spent a lot of time on my patio...puffing.

I decided to give e-cigs a try without really thinking about quitting the cigarettes. I had 3/4 of a pack of smokes left when I bought my first e-cig, an eGo ONE, and figured I'd just give it a try without putting pressure on myself. I'd use the e-cig and have a "real" cig in between. One evening I had only a couple of cigs left. I resisted the urge to zip to the store and buy another pack. The next morning I smoked the remaining cigs and told myself I'd try not to buy another pack. It was tough but I was curious to see if I could resist.

That was almost 3 weeks ago. I haven't had a cigarette since. I still have the occasional craving but just fire up my e-cig instead. I've been around smoking friends and been to the pub and still use my e-cig.

I rarely puff on it indoors as I know for me that can be a slippery slope...I'd be puffing on my e-cig constantly. So I use it outside on my patio just like I used to smoke my cigs.

I haven't made a big deal out of it...haven't really chirped about it even with my smoker friends. For me that works best. I just don't want the pressure..."Still not smoking? ". That would stress me out. So I kind of keep it to myself...except here, where everyone understands :)

Keep up the good work and celebrate even the smallest victories! I am blown away that I haven't had a smoke in almost 3 weeks. Never thought it would happen.

Good luck!

Thank you for all the advice.

SO...what's the consensus? Have a tobacco-tasting juice on hand for the cravings or switch straight to other flavours to remove the association?
I still start the day with tobacco flavored juice and have never craved an analog since I quit.

1/4 of a pack left not 3/4!!! I could never smoke 3/4 pack in one morning! !!

I'm a menthol smoker so I started with menthol to ween myself off the analogues. I suggest you do the same.

That said, very quickly I switched over to other flavors and have been really enjoying the change since. Never thought this would happen as I really don't like sweet stuff.

Now with vaping, I crave the sweet hits.

Whatever works best for you. I was so ignorant about the whole thing that I started that first day with a blister kit from my tobacco shop & a bottle of Peppermint Ice d one of straight menthol. No tobacco, just menthol flavor with nic. I.d been a menthol smoker, too, but have not been able to find a tobacco flavor I could stand. I guess it's too much like analogs which don't appeal to me & haven't since that first hit of the Peppermint Ice. I haven't used that one again, either. I like bourbon custards. I had not found any fruity or candy flavors I liked either until recently, & I've blown thru some money in the search. I know that my taste has changed very slightly several times over the last year & the last change opened the door to this fruit flavor that I'm liking now. I'm getting things together to start diy my own juices now, too.

Took me about 3 wks, first time, and after my relapse, about a month. If you've only been vaping for a week, why beat yourself up? That's crazy. Smoke when you want to. When you get to the point where the cigarettes taste so foul you can't figure out why you're bothering with them, stop smoking them.

1: Have you been vaping only 1 week?
2: Only 1 cig or less a day? That's pretty darn fabulous in my book.
3: How quickly did I manage to switch to vape: about a month.
Pretty much quit in a week, but still had the occasional cig because they were there up until after a month, then I was confident enough to get rid of them.
I smoke 2packaday for 30 years.

If you used to smoke 20 cigs a day and now you are down to 1 cig a day, that's a 95%. That's an A+.
Congrats

One good technique is to keep a special tank (preferably with it's own mod) on standby with higher strength liquid in it for occasional use, and just take a puff or few of that when you feel the need for a cig.
One variation of that is if you find a decent disposable cigalike brand that you like; something that looks and feels a lot like a cigarette, and use that as your cig replacement.
Once you get the cig smell and taste off your tongue, chances are you'd find it much more preferable to vape instead.
