Nautilus X is Aspire.

Aspire, well... let's just say money is king and being better than the rest doesn't really apply. Same goes for joyetech. Neither is a total flop but somehow they have created this image of being superior. joyetech also regrettably make some really duff stuff. If it wasn't for the community goading them into actually trying to make some clearomizers, they'd still be selling atomizer and cartridges.

I use a lot of factory coils and have dabbled with Kanger, Joyetech, Eleaf, Innokin, Uwell and others. Some are good, some are OK, some are quite bad. None are outstanding, although totally vapeable.

For me, an RDA is the way to go for best experience. Always.
Any luck with RTA's? I'm not sure dripping is compatible with my work day...

Nice, thanks for the tips! I settled on 316L SS @ 28g. The "mandrel" I'm going to use is 2.41mm. How do plus ohm coils do in it?
SS screws are a must, anything less will be promptly replaced.

It's all Kinda Personal Taste.

I ran mine at 1st using a 3mm Diam. 26ga NiChrome 80 .6 Ohm Coil. Worked Great.

Yes. Quite successful with RTAs.
Not convinced by Kayfun V5 but still have some early models which work well.
Pretty happy with Merlin a.t.m.
Subtanks and Uwells (RBA) get some action, but not huge amounts.

So... I ordered an RDA. I was apprehensive to do so because I like the convenience of a tank. It seems like a cheap route to figure out if making coils will provide the flexibility I want along with consistent flavor. Then maybe a Kayfun.
While I wait for the RDA to ship, I'll be thinning down the 30/70 with unflavored 50/50, and looking for another juice to try, maybe Ahlusion's Cherry Wood...
If you read this far thanks! Any input that could steer me toward a consistent flavorful MTL style vape without breaking the bank would be appreciated!
Welcome and glad you joined.
I'm at: high ohm ,MTL vape low watt vaping Magma & Origen V3 deep well RDA's. Maximum taste and minimum e-liquid (I DIY) consumption, and this seems to be my sweet spot.
The deep well and settings above give a good 45min. to hour vape without re filling. and next to nothing evolving costs on wire and new rayon wick.
Sub ohm'g is good for lots of folks but not all. Whatever works for you.
Might like to turn your voltage/wattage down, take a few hits, bump it up, couple more hits. Repeat until you find your "sweet spot". If the vape taste bad, back it down. Different flavors/atomizers will have different sweet spots so you may have to experiment with the power settings. I use a Eleaf IStick 40w (same battery for over a year now) and vape single coil *Magma RDA's at 2 ohms/7 watts. This type of vaping is at the extreme other end of vaping (Great taste and moderate clouds).

Great, thank you for the information and the links!
Ive used some of those suggestions, others will be employed.
I think the root of my flavor issue is the 70vg. It's not wicking the fast enough for the way I draw. Everything was ok till I switched from 50/50 to 30/70. I had read that this ratio worked in the NX, and yeah it does, for about two days. I pulled out the coils heads, one is a little brown, the other is burnt. I've been thinning to compensate until I get new juice.
I see another benefit of making your own coils: availability! I just looked I can't find 1.8 coils in the US.

@Enso - Wow! Those Nautilus X coils certainly are expensive. I can see why burning one would be costly.

I checked a favorite vendor, and unfortunately he only carries the 1.5ohm ones, too. But, he does have them in stock, and with a 30% off discount if you use the coupon code Turkey. They'll be $14/box of 5 with the code, and free S/H for a total purchase of $14 or more! Maybe that'll help you out some. :)

Hi Enso
Folks have been giving you lots of good ideas and suggestions on the hardware front so I won't bother to add to it. On the juices though I'll give you one bit of advice. Don't throw out the ones you don't think you like until you've given them at least 3 months and better up to 6 months waiting time. Their flavors will change over time and you can suddenly be pleasantly surprised to find something you now like in your reject bin. True of lemon especially as it often comes with a very unpleasant perfumy taste, give it time and most of the perfume with disappear.

I agree, MUCH good advice!
Nothing will go into the rubbish bin, I've found that one of the tobacco flavors has gotten better. It's been sitting about three weeks. I've let it breath a bit due to the alcohol content. Not a fan of the boozy smell. It's better, but still not a winner as far is I'm concerned. As for the lemony one, it's going to be a WHILE before I load that one up again!

Making your own coils (complex hybrid sub ohm coils diff. game-just takes the right equip.) is as easier than bending a paperclip. Much thinner so you use less effort.
Your right, more PG more flavor and possibility of more throat harshness/sensitivity. With DIY, you can often increase the flavor percentages of the mix. With vaping, there are often many ways to solve a problem.

Thanks for the help everyone.
The "Narda" arrived today, I just tried it out. I LIKE it. Waiting on new juice to arrive...

For anyone who is interested in a Narda and can't find an authentic, or afford one, this is the one I purchased: NarDA Silver 316 Stainless Steel RDA Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer

I think people who had problems with tight caps and plated screws bought the cheaper 304SS version. The 316ss version appears to have ss screws, cap is snug but not tight. No traces of oil or dirt, though I cleaned it anyway.
With a single coil at 1ohm, it is a fairly polite RDA, and I really like the look. I may never go back to coil heads.

Just an FYI for anyone who has or is going to get a BF NarDa like this...

$9.35 NarDA Styled RDA Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer - 316 stainless steel / 22mm diameter at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

The Hole in the BF Pin is kinda Small. Especially if you use High VG e-Liquids. Opening Up the BF Hole by putting pushing a 1/16" (.0625") Drill thru the Hole can Help.

Note: As with doing ANY Mod on a piece of e-Cigarette Hardware, proceed at you own Risk. And if you have Never done anything like this Before, it would be a Good Idea to have someone Help you who has.

In Las Vegas, there is a company called DIYFlavorShack. They will ship, really cool place, good folks. They have a Burley tobacco flavoring that is really good. My favorite is the "Cigar Leaf". I brought them a bag of organic whole leaf flue cured Virginia tobacco. They made the flavor to match the wonderful smell of the bag. The also have a "Virginia fire cured" flavor.

Just buy a little pure flavoring from them. You might have to call the order in, since it's a custom flavor they made for me.
