advice on starter kit?

Hello everyone! I am more or less educated about how e-cigs work and the different models, and am looking to buy a starter kit. I want to get the next step up from the mini, and definitely want it to be automatic. From what I have gathered so far I probably want to start with the 510 as it has more upgrade potential (which I am sure I will want to do eventually). However, I don't know exactly where to start. Is there sites that let you customize everything about the e-cig? such as aesthetics like tip color, etc. Kind of want to get snazzy with it. Also i was wondering where the best site would be to buy my starter kit from. I looked at your list of vendors and it was intimidatingly big. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

I personally have an eGo-C, which lots of people like if you are keen on the larger size. I don't have an automatic, though, it's a manual. I had an automatic way back when and there are some downsides with the technology, but the convenience seems to be a factor for you, so sounds good!

My mother also wanted to try the automatic, so we ended up getting her the Volt (Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Electronic Cigarettes | Wholesale Electronic Cigarettes | E-Cigarette | Best Electronic Cigarette | Electronic Cigarette) which has a flobbityjillion different ways to customize it with colors and whatnot. I am sure there are other units with more customization, but my mom really liked this one. A downside is that it is a smaller unit, which means more battery swapping, but it is definitely upgradeable, because it is a KR808 unit (I am right in saying this other members, yes?). My eGo-C is a 510, which is another common model, as you pointed out.

I bought my eGo-C from iVape.net, my mother purchased her Volt from the Smokeless Image website.

Wanting an automatic is very limiting. Most folks here will recommend manuals. Not just because of aesthetics but because leaks kill autos fast. And even folks that have been vaping for years still get leaks.

Now witht that being said the one I recommend is the Kgo. They do offer some colors but it's the big batteries andcan come with decent cartos. Places like these; have them;

For something with more standard replaceable batteries there's the Epower;
E-Power 14650

Get some decent Boge 2.0 or Smoktech 1.7 cartos and juice that you like and you'll never look back.

Most don't want the automatic batteries because juice eventually seeps into the batteries causing it a shorter life span. Manual batteries are sealed so there is no issue. My manual battery recommendation is the KGO SLB KGO Starter Kit

I second the Kgo and stephpd's post.
Manual batteries are better (IMHO) because:
-less chance of damage from juice.
-less chance of device firing in pocket or purse..some auto pvs will fire when loud noises occur.
-manual batt puts the vaper in control; if you want a stronger/ longer hit just hold the button down longer.
I use the SmokTech 1.7 cartos exclusively and am very happy with them. After you get the hang of vaping you can add a tank.

YES YES... go with a KGO! For all the reasons stated above. Really, manual is the way to go, you have much more control of your vape experience. And the SmokTech 1.7's are the best... Hoosier had all the different colors the last time I looked, I have the red ones and going to order the blue ones.. luv em that much!

It's great that there are so many different options for everything but a little intimidating as well so I appreciate all your help thus far. It's hard to believe advertising on websites and very tempting to just buy the first one that looks ok but I figured I would come on here and find out fromo real customers before going off half-cocked.

Also, I don't know if this is just how all manual e-cigs are but are they all typically as big as a pen? I know that the minis (actual cigarette size) have less battery life but I was hoping to get one in between the mini and the larger cigar-sized ones.

You're welcome. When you've decided on your purchase and the vendor post it back here so we can:
1/ make sure you have everything
2/ find you a discount for the vendor.
The ECF vendors operate here at ECF under a strict code of ethics and some have lost the privilege of posting here because their ethics were under question. Also if a vendor screws up ECF members will let them know it...just remember most are Mom and Pop operations and mistakes will occur. I doubt if there's a single supplier here who hasn't come under the gun. The bottom line is getting a quality product for a fair price.

Just make sure you get add some cartomizers and juice to your basket. With the KGO (depending on who you buy it from) you will get some prefilled cartridges with an atomizer. Most people throw the yucky prefilled carts away. Or you may get some cartomizers which I think are cheaply made and I don't use them. Buy some Boge's which come in 2.0 ohm (Low Resistance) and 3.0 ohm (Standard Resistance). The low resistance will give out more wattage, stronger hit. Lots of people do recommend Smoketech as well but say Boge's might be better for beginners. Not sure why.

Also the KGO kit from Hoosier has their logo on it which is one reason I bought it from dark city vapor.

Whilst i`m a newbie to this vaping lark myself i think it only fair to warn you that no matter what starter kit you get, within a couple of days (or maybe weeks if your lucky) you`ll be thinking "oh why didn`t i buy this kit or that tank setup instead". Then like the rest of us you`ll be dipping into your piggy bank again. LOL.
Joking aside though i have to agree that manual batteries are better and safer than auto`s, and the bigger the battery the better (lasts longer between recharges). Any of the kits mentioned in previous posts would be fine. But you might consider
buying each item (ie batt, charger, tank or cartomiser, juice) seperately and customising your setup to suit you.
As i said at the beginning your going to be changing/upgrading within a couple of weeks anyway!

If you buy the smaller Ecig you may want to purchase a PCC (personal charging kit). The smaller ecig Volt from Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Electronic Cigarettes | Wholesale Electronic Cigarettes | E-Cigarette | Best Electronic Cigarette | Electronic Cigarette gets rave reviews but the batts only last for about 3 hours BUT you can buy a charger kit for on the go. Batts are also only 3.6 volts and automatic. As one vet here at ECF says "the more it looks like an analog the less it will perform"

Ok I am looking at the kgo and am wondering what they mean by drip tip color? and what are the shorty cones and cartomizer flat tip?

A drip tip is designed for use with an atomizer. Some people "drip" instead of using cartomizers or cartridges. They drip a couple drops of liquid on the atomizer. The drip tip is just so you don't have your mouth directly on the hot atomizer. There are also good to use on the cartomizers. On cartomizers there is a white plug in the mouthpiece that you take out to fill the cartomizer. Instead of putting that white plug back in I just use a drip tip instead. It is easy to take the drip tip off to top off the cartomizer with juice. The white plug requires something like a toothpick or a hook tool to pull out.

You can buy extra 510 drip tips if you want extras. One just comes with the kit in the different colors offered.

The shorty cone. You don't need it. I think it is for certain types of atomizers used while dripping as they don't extend very far from the battery. The cones are just cosmetic.

Ego Mega Clear Dual Coil Cartomizer Flat TIp is what I'm guessing you are referring to. It is just a type of cartomizer. It hold more juice than a normal cartomizer. I have a couple of them but I like the flavor and quality of vape I get from the boge's much more.

I would get more cartomizers. At least another 5 pack. You need one at least for each flavor. And it is highly recommended to have extras on hand. You eventually will have to buy more. Cool thing is that you get a free 5mL bottle for every 5 pack you buy. Then you hope but not assume that you can clean them by boiling or all the other methods out there on youtube so that you can get another life or two out of them.

Agreed. That's a lot of nic. I would get a couple lower nic juices too. A couple higher ones is plenty, for the bad cravings but you will likely find that you vape far more than you ever smoked & will get plenty of nicotine. Honestly, if I'm awake, thus KGO is in my hand!! I'm an all day vaper, an I did not smoke that much. It's just that the flavors are so darn yummy!!
