Bingo! :thumb:

Willing to bet the current Aegis Mini already houses an 18650 – but by removing a battery door (or threaded cap) and battery sled, they are able to achieve its smaller form factor.

The original Aegis 100 was designed around a 26650 cell.

@Geekvape_Official – I would keep the Aegis Mini as is to cover that Internal battery device market. Then perform a refresh design on the Aegis 100 watt but base its design around a 21700 cell and not the portly 26650. You should be able to easily achieve a smaller form factor.
Hmmm.... and by opening the thing it might be possible to replace the battery when it wears out. If that can indeed be done.

I guess we need to wait for them to start wearing out and for someone to take one apart and post a video. It still has that lousy microUSB2 though.

The battery leads will most likely be soldered onto the cell and by opening the device you risk the possibility of breaking that water resistance rating. Don’t own one so don’t know the challenges behind opening one up.

I've got an iStick 40 that's 4 years old and still running fine. It was my grandson's only mod for 2 years and I've used it daily since then. If the Mini does that well I'll be happy. I would be even happier if it had a removable battery. I don't need a big battery, 18650 does the job for me.

The mini is the same height and depth as a Colossal, and a bit fatter. No reason they couldn't fit a removable battery in it. Doubt they could give it the same level of water and shock resistance though, but the trade would be worth it for me.

Nor do I which is why I’m hoping someone else will do it :p. There’s a good chance it’s either glued shut, or will require special tools to begin with.

If they’re thinking of doing a redesign but the battery door thing fails, Changing to USBc and making some allowances for high effort battery replacement would really help though. I also believe A battery door is preferable. I’m just offering options.

I have the Aegis Legend and it's a nice mod, but as you said, smaller would be great.

I just ordered a new Pico S. 100W - 21700 or 18650

I'd be much more interested in the Mini if it had a replaceable 18650, keeping the size as small as possible.

I really liked the durability but not the the fact that listed in the specs as being 2200mah, since after charging could only get to less 1800mah.

@Geekvape_Official

Please in the future.... Be honest in your specs.

That’s within spec for a cheap lo end 18650. Also in spec for a LiPo though. Could be either. A removable battery could change that one.

Why not? The Aegis is shock and water resistant, and it has a removable battery.

I didn't realise that. The mini is the only one I have, Just looked it up and the Aegis has the same specs as the Mini, maybe higher on one of them. So I guess a battery door can do that stuff.

"Portly 26650"! Lovely.

Yes, the 26650 cell is a fat sucker. Difficult to get a perspective just by viewing the measurements alone, you have to see one side by side with the other size cells. But designing the Aegis around the 26650 means it is quite thick in comparison – it’s actually similar in size as my 3x 18650 LV Triade. Will assume the 2X700 cells were rare at the time of design which is why they went with the 26650. It’s coming up on it’s 2 year anniversary which given the current trends of design refreshes every other month is quite long. Also says a lot for its popularity and success!

With the 21700 size becoming more popular, I feel the Aegis could benefit with a refresh that is designed around this size of a cell - taking advantage on the popularity of the original. And in doing so, they could reduce the overall size of the device. Its trademark ruggedness will still dictate a larger device in comparison, but that is the trade off with going with a device that can handle life’s bumps, knocks and spills.

There is also a market for smaller, internal battery devices in which the Mini fits in nicely even if it is slightly larger in comparison. Its ruggedness makes it stand out over the rest which I personally feel is an excellent selling point. Although there are still some single 18650 only devices that are enjoying popular sales, it seems to me that single cell mods are moving toward the 2X700 cell trend. Would a removable 18650 Aegis be popular with stiff competition from devices that can allow a larger cell? Or would Geek Vape enjoy more success following the 2X700 trend and refreshing the Aegis 100 watt keeping the Mini as an non-removable cell device?

I have an Aegis Mini and really like it a lot as a carry around device for out and about. It is small and has a great hand fit. The battery charge lasts for a couple days for out and about use. It also recharges fast. The battery will eventually die but should probably last a couple of years, maybe more before that happens. So not much of an issue as when it dies it can be replaced with another device.

Doesn't looks as durable and not advertised as water resistant but Geekvape has a Lucid kit that is available for around $30 if you shop around. Takes a single 18650 battery and comes with a disposable tank. It looks similar to the Pico mods but takes a 24 mm tank. You don't need to use the disposable tank and can use any tank you want with it. I will probably end up getting one to replace an old PICO that is looking quite beat up now.

I believe that a replaceable 18650 cell would result in a device bigger than the actual Aegis mini.

To keep the size of the Aegis mini, considering the sizeable overhead of all anti-shock rubber, a replaceable battery should be - IMO - a 18500 size.

Dear Geek Vape, can you say what size is the battery employed in the mini? - Thanks!

Interesting choice. But if the goal behind having a removable cell is to capitalize on the popularity of the 18650 spec, wouldn’t choosing an 18500 be a step backwards?

I am sure there are more available, but quick look at IMR Batteries there are only 2 18500 cells they offer. One does not give it’s CDR and the other is only 1000mAh @10amps. That would limit use to 30 watts max.
