i commented there too but i'll say it here too.

i believe the ALA is afraid of losing money from the donations for lung cancer research.
if we keep vaping, we have less lung cancer, less money for the ALA means going out of business.

please tell me if i am wrong about this.

It's a safe assumption. The pharmaceutical companies support all of those organizations and they would NOT like the potential ecigs have to cut into the NRT market.

I am more comfortable fighting people than I am organizations. I need a face to aim at. To that extent I have zeroed in on Kathy Drea who seems to have been instrumental in the Illinois bill fiasco....and was present at today's hearing. I am doing some research. In an article about restricted smoking on hospital grounds, she said this:

“Any time you’re discouraging smoking, it’s a good thing,”

Might be good to pull that quote out the next time she opens her big mouth about e-cigs.

In another article concerning tobacco taxes, she apparently doesn't mind if the tax money doesn't go into the healthcare arena.

She said the association won’t quibble if the tax money goes to needs other than health care.“We’re not picky about what the money is used for. Our main goal is to increase that price so that more adults will quit and more children will not start,” Drea said.

I’m sorry for being stupid, but I can’t figure out how to post a comment on that page. Sure, I can open a window to add a comment but there is no button, and no help to press ‚return‘, to actually post that comment. At any rate, it’s really troubling that an organization aiming to help people in maintaining and gaining health turned to fight a product that has helped numerous smokers to actually stop smoking. Thanks for writing this article.

She's actually a lobbyist for the American Lung Association. They pay her to lobby their causes. She's really not the one with influence - she's a lacky.
