Health officials released the names of several products identified by patients who have been sickened in Illinois and Wisconsin.

Dank Vapes, TKO and Other THC Vaping Brands Linked to Illnesses, C.D.C. Says
Wonder why the CDC rep in yesterdays congressional hearing said they don't know what or what brands were the problem?
    Convenient omission...

Pretty amazing that no one else in the world has died from "vaping". By the way the media is carrying on you would think thousands have died.
EXACTLY!!! I've been thinking this all along! It's only happening in the U.S., and it's just in the last few months too! Doesn't take a genius to figure out something new got into the system cause people have been vaping e-cigs for years!!!

ECF seems to be chock full of those that think they have a theory on the cause of the issues .. we'll call them "Pretend Scientists" ..

For a Website that has always promoted the PV as "better than the alternative" if I were a New Member seeking info, as I am sure many are these days, I'd run, not walk away within 10 minutes or less of browsing around the Forum .. and, never come back

I might get bashed for this, but I'm going to throw my opinion out here. I don't trust the government for one second. I think Sandy Hook was set-up. I think 9/11 was set-up. I don't believe we ever been to the moon yet. (lots of evidence for this)
I believe the Government uses "population control" and scare tactics to keep everyone in line per say and regulate us in order for them to keep their power over us. Don't get me wrong please, I feel horrible for the families that lost loved ones as a result of these incidents. Ever more so because our own Government did it to us. I would not put it past our Government to be behind this either. They are known to keep secrets from us. It boggles me how it only happens in the US.

I mean even little Danny in The Shining is wearing an Apollo sweatshirt in a scene. Weird.

You forgot aliens in area 51

Just in California? There has to be regions that are much easier to at least find a street dealer. Admittedly I am not on par with US policies, but given we are dealing with illegal drugs in a few states (if not many), wouldn’t other agencies be involved?
DEA. The CDC turned info over to the DEA. On a Federal basis, it's still a schedule-1 drug (prohibited), they're just not enforcing the law, and letting the states "have their say".

This is per one of the interviews/hearings on TV and the CDC lady said "DEA" if I remember correctly.

    Then there's the FDA.

    So it's kind of a cluster-mess.

EDIT: Sorry, I ended up on page one somehow. Wormhole or aliens or something....

    Salmonella Homepage | CDC

"CDC estimates Salmonella causes about 1.2 million illnesses, 23,000 hospitalizations, and 450 deaths in the United States every year. Food is the source for about 1 million of these illnesses."

Obviously we are not going to take food off the market, nor put every food product through an extremely expensive validation process. Even if we did, it's still no guarantee that a future run of a food product will never be contaminated.

I really don't mind some greater efforts to validate the safety of e-cigs, or even encourage a safer product, it's the current hysteria that is bothersome to me. I get it, I really do, kids are involved, and that it appears to be a sudden wave of illness, but it can still be handled intelligently. Oh and yes, if it was people getting sick from say eggs, we'd get a list of brands to avoid.

It could be the CDC doesn't yet know enough yet, that is fine. It could also be LE is hunting down bad players and doesn't want to tip their hand. I think we just have to be patient, but I do wish the public and politicians were not in such a rush to pass new laws until that homework is done.

    Absolutely!

Further, some of them <glare at my governor in MI> started passing laws (emergency edicts) pretty early, even before the epidemic was declared, but this was about "save the children" and "kid attracting flavors". So flavor ban, not e-cig ban.

Thankfully, she hasn't banned e-cigs yet. She'll probably just wait until May and let the FDA handle that doozie.

This has been a red flag to me too - the majority of those affected are young males under the age of 30. Us nicotine vapers are (mainly) old farts over the age of 40 and there's a pretty even gender split
My daughter, a senior at a huge university tells me there's a pretty substantial portion of the student body there (generally aged 18 to early 20s) who use nicotine vapes.

My cousins kid who just turned 20, told me that by his senior year, he would guess half the kids in his high school were Juuling. I just read that the sales of Ecigs tracked by Nielsen (convenience stores and gas stations) nearly doubled from to $4.5b in the past year. That's all Juul. This number doesn't include the open systems we use, which isn't tracked.

Big Tobacco survived a crackdown. So can e-cigarettes - CNN

According to figures from market research firm Nielsen, electronic cigarette sales in the US nearly doubled to $4.5 billion in the 52 weeks ending August 24. Tobacco cigarette sales fell 3% to $59.3 billion during the same time period.

Myclobutanil is a fungicide used on the crop. It is banned in many regions, but that may not prevent use. There is a process to remove Myclobutanil from the product, but again, that process has to be implemented. If Myclobutanil is used, and the product has not followed the process of removal, then why are only vapers of a cannabis product being affected and not smokers? Both are at risk.
One possibility: Combustion is not the same as just heating something. E.g.: A good bit of the nicotine in a tobacco cigarette is destroyed by combustion.

But I'm inclined to think Myclobutanil likely isn't the source of the problem, mainly because the problem seems to be new, and the timing of its arrival matches up with Vitamin E acetate coming into use as a thickener.

In my college days I was smoking, cigs and pipes. Too bad for me. The kids are lucky to have the vape alternative.

The insidious thing about the tainted pot liquid is it doesn't strike immediately. Some days or weeks may go by before symptoms appear. People need to be warned about that.

5 years ago I thought, this is going to change the world, end the Tobacco Age. I still think that but may be it's going to take a little longer.

So, what if we really are living in a real life Robin Cook medical mystery novel? Who has the most to gain? Who has the most to lose? Who has the money and power to pull off such a scheme?

Is there an organized power scheme, or just random acts of coincidence and opportunity?

I also am baffled by a new (to me) product ad for vaping vitamins. WTH? I guess you can vape vitamins becàuse the FDA doesn't regulate them? I didn't notice if they came in Gummy Bear or Flintstone's Fruity COPYRIGHTDMCA flavors for both kids and adults. Just shoot me now....
