So, would some of these people taking Chantix even realize that their feelings of suicide are related to the Chatix or would they be so deep in it that it wouldn't matter?

The really insidious part of depression and suicidal ideation in particular is that people in the throes of it often try to hide or minimize their feelings and actively resist seeking help. For many, it wouldn't matter if they knew it was because of the drug.

I'm wondering if at least some of the worsening depression and suicidal thoughts are not directly caused by Chantix or bupropion, but rather caused by the extreme drop in serotonin levels triggered by cessation of nicotine.

Ironic, isn't it? They want to save your life by making you quit smoking, and quitting smoking makes you wish you were dead.

I hadn't completely stopped smoking when I started having the nasty thoughts, so I think it's more than just that.

Chantix, it yet another one of the growing list of pills allowed for sale by the FDA(thanks to bribes and investments) That are worse than what they "cure".

How many times do you see some new wonder pill that has side effect warnings list that last longer than the add being pulled a few months/ years later and then part of a class action suit?

I saw an add today for a skin pill that said you could not go out in sunlight while using it. So you will have pretty skin but everybody who gets to see it will have to come visit you in your windowless pit.

Maybe instead of fighting for e-cigs we should be fighting to purge the FDA. Then maybe when we clean the human filth out of the FDA we won't have anything to worry about.

Sorry a bit more rage then logic here I know, but the FDA royally pisses me off with how obvious their corruption is.

I saw an ad last night for a back pain medication (non-narcotic) that included kidney failure and death as a known side effect in the voiceover disclaimer! WTF?? So, you can get FDA approval for a medication that can and does kill people (so long as you have the required studies,) but something that has been on the market for 4 years without reports of injuries or death associated with it's use needs to be pulled from the market for FDA approval and safety studies. Doesn't give me much faith in something being FDA-approved = safe.

It seems like most FDA-approved products have a prerequisite of danger or death to get approved these days!

I had a good run with Chantix. It keept me of analogs for good 5 month. I was a 40+ year smoker.
I LOVED the vivid dreams. No violence at all.
During the end though I noticed getting real crazy thoughts about killing myself. And one day I was sitting on the porch trying to figure out where to do it. In the House? No my wife could not live there anymore. Behind the house? Same thing. Best I do....
I called my wife and told her what I just thought. She did not say one word. She went to the pack of analogs that she kept hidden, brought them and said: You start smoking right now. No but’s, if’s or whatever. At that time it was not known that Chantix had that side effect. Gosh that was some time ago and just thinking about it makes me shaking.

But now I have found you guys here at ECF and started vaping. YOU SAVED MY LIVE!!!!!
Thank you all

Here's what I know on the subject...

1)Chantix blocks nicotine receptors...

2)researchers have found lower numbers of those same receptors in noted cases of autism(dissected brains)

3)what else do those receptors uptake besides nicotine...not entirely sure

4)is it really a good idea to do anything that at least on one level brings a normal person closer to the level of a person with autism/aspergers...probably not(you didn't grow up this way you may not be able to adjust )trust me I have a hard time and I have grown up this way and without nic I'm REALLY a wreck...and I do believe keeping those receptors jammed with nic makes me function a thousand times better...

Now for the PURE SPECULATION

I could and am probably wrong here...I do know in my case my subconscious mind does NOT filter as many decisions (making them for me) as normal I have to consciously think to do a good many things(hence why many with ASDs have obsessive compulsive disorders as well) I do not I can just as easily decide not to make a decision(it bugs me but oh well)

Does chantix have the same effect that could explain one posters looking at a gun and thinking it would be so easy...Normally a persons subconscious would filter something insane like that out...We actually make decisions like that all the time w/o ever knowing it

Hmmm if that's the case Chantix really is a bad idea combined w depression caused by lack of the other chemicals present in cig smoke like MAOIs(antidepressants)

Granted That is not all that someone w an ASD has to cope with if that is even ASD related...But I can tell you it is a symptom of a lack of the mind automatically filtering out BAD decisions...things that normally would never hit the register because your subconscious ruled them out

It does seem to make normal people go nuts I have had conversations with about 10 other people who took it...after a 10-15min line of questions I see a pattern like that 1)had to think harder...2)was more effort to perform activities that were normally easy 3)took too much thinking just to get out of bed...4)had more hostile thoughts...

pattern is things your mind would normally do in the background was on surface...BAD IDEA...most do not have the ability to cope with issues like that...

another example of what heartless monsters are in charge of the drug companies. they don't CARE if things like this happen. they're only motivated by cold hard cash, they don't care about helping people at all. they're just as bad as the Medellin Cartel.

(NOTICE how I said the people in charge of the companies, not the scientists who make the drugs. the leaders of these companies make the decision of when the drugs get released, its not up to the scientists that work on the drugs if it gets released or not)
