Any gastronomical problems related to e-cigs?

Hi, I am new here and I joined mainly for this reason. I wanted to post it in a general discussion page but am limited to the new member forum. I actually have been vaping at an almost consistent rate on and off for 2 years now. Recently, I have noticed some eliquids you buy for use of self-fill of cartomizers, tanks, drip kits, etc. from differing companies might cause reactions that raise health concerns. My problems began when I bought a 30 ml bottle of the madvapes licorice flavored eliquid. Within days of smoking it my tongue turned brown and showed signs that its discoloration was due to surface bleeding. Since then, tasting the actual flavors of the eliquids has been lessened and often times I have had to switch brands, like I did recently from a company I have used for years (DFW Vapor) for Mountain Oaks Vapor (excellent flavors there BTW.) Even before I switched I started noticing an increased nausea that often spiked during or after ecig usage. Now I am constantly nauseous and have been throwing up daily. One thing to note is that now I cannot smoke regular cigarettes anymore because they make me barf immediately after or during smoking them. When I used to smoke analog before trying ecigs, it did sometimes happen occasionally and I noticed that it seemed like some of the content I was inhaling was possibly getting into my stomach. Here's the thing that is weird. Vomiting up the food itself is not what stops the nausea. There's a separate fluid, not bile, that I vomit out after all the food is rejected. This liquid is clear like water, comes out in at least 8 ounces worth at once, and is very sweet tasting. I cannot find any site that describes what it is or what condition might cause such a thing. The only thing that was brought to my attention was the low-level toxicity rate of propylene glycol, one of the main ingredients of eliquid and how it compares to its cousin, ethylene glycol, which is the main ingredient in antifreeze and is highly toxic. Most sites indicate that propylene glycol seems harmless, but in cases of direct ingestion, gastronomical problems can occur. Also, that both these liquids are clear and sweet tasting. I have never directly ingested eliquid because I am aware from labels on the original bottles I bought from the No. 7 ecig site (my first ecig) that it is toxic when ingested. Is it possible that vapor is making its way into my stomach and condensing into a propylene glycol solution that is staying separate from my food and must be barfed out of my system? I don't know of any stomach process that actually produces a sweet tasting bile or fluid, so again, I am stumped. I also do not ingest a large quantity of natural sugar, and the things that are sweet I generally consume are sugar alternatives, such as the Monster Zero energy drink or diet sodas, so I doubt its diabetes. I suspect the caffeine in them also increases the nausea when consumed, because this can also cause a sudden nauseating wave shortly after consuming them. Another possibility I have considered might be vaping too high a level of nicotine, as this is also a stimulant, and combining it with caffeine is causing a stimulant overdose.

Again, these problems have developed into this level of intensity over a two year period, and although I once tried a method that nearly helped me quit entirely by steadily reducing the level of nicotine to zero over time, which at one time I did succeed with but suffered a sudden relapse into smoking due to a stressful incident in my life, I have generally remained consistent at 24 mg without problems until recently. Should I try lowering the dose or is it more related to the propylene glycol content getting into my stomach? I do have three bottles remaining in my stock and I am not one to waste good eliquid so I might have to wait till I get through it...

While I suspect it might be due to ecig usage, I am unsure.

I think the first thing I would do is lower the nic. Nausea or headaches can be a sign of nic od or dehydration. Use plain water not energy drinks or soda. Think I would also stay away from the licorice, you may have an allergy to it in higher concentrations. It has been known to cause problems. I can't imagine how you could be getting that much liquid from vapor in your stomach. I would see a Dr. if it continues. May not be related to ecigs at all.

I did not read the whole thing. PG and antifreeze are only 4 cousins. You may be allergic to PG or that particular flavor. I'd suggest consulting a Doctor. The Nic content may have been too high. Doubt there are many MD's on here. I'd reduce you vaping or you nic level and see a Doctor. You may have a drug interaction issue. Who knows. Can't do an exam on here.

OH you should be drinking more water.

Hi lady! Believe it or not, while I read your post there's still a couple of questions I have. You said you've been vaping on and off for two years. "on and off" means? for a year followed by a stop followed by 6 months, then 3 months off or....? Also what equipment are you using? From the immediate quick read, it sounds more like you have ulcers or acid reflux that's burning your throat and tongue's surface but I've not heard of someone's tongue going brown and bleeding like you mentioned. I think you really should see a doctor first, because I am NOT a doctor. However we're here to help you in regards to what's going on with your vaping if it does have something to do with the reaction.

well the first step would be to gather a sample of what is being expelled and speak with your doctor. they would be able to run test and better determine what is being produced/expelled from your body. usually when these things happen its a warning sign from your body that should be taken seriously and being spoken about with a doctor. there could be a much more serious issue at hand.

I too have vaped for over 2 years non stop, and never once has it caused me to vomit. but i also have no allergies and some people will have allergic reactions to components of ejuice. only time i have gotten sick was due to vendors that didnt agree with me as far as taste is concerned. IMHO not all vendors are equal when it comes to quality of juice, as anything dekang i can tell after vaping it for 10 minutes or so.

hope you take a serious course of action and seek professional help to find out what exactly is going on with your body. as well as take the necessary steps to get it fixed.

ladysorrowishana, I agree with everyone above who suggested you seek medical advice and please do so asap. I have never heard of the symptoms you describe related to vaping. Having said that, please stop vaping and get medical assistance as soon as possible. Best of luck to you and let us know how you make out!

From personal experience, (10 month heavy vaper), I have found that if I chain vape any juice greater than 12mg nicotine for more than a few minutes per day, I will get severe - and I do mean severe acid indigestion and nausea. Headaches, too! Also, if I vape any juice with more than 60% PG in it, I will itch like a fiend and sometimes vomit, too. Higher concentrations of PG when vaped more than occasionally have also caused me to get mouth sores. There have also been a handful of juices that I have tried that made me instantly and intensely nauseous.

So, I only lightly vape anything higher than 12mg in strength and avoid anything higher than 50pg/50vg where possible. And if I use it once and it makes me ill, out it goes.
