Its been five days since Ive found vaping and went from gas station disposable blu's to buying an ego 650mA with a CE4 clearomiser I bought from a brick and mortar. (both clones) I paid more than a genuine joytech, I later discovered, but hey, it works and I supported a mom and pop store. At least I got free juice. Anyway, I still have a pack of analogs left and I still find it hard to stop my old habits, although I have cut down considerably. I still need to have a morning smoke. i wake up early, go outside on the patio and drink a cup of coffee and smoke an analog or two. This has kind of become a ritual to the start of my day, and I have found this hard to break. Also, when I jump in my car for a drive, I find myself reaching for my lighter just out of habit. Before i go to bed, I usually go out on the patio again and smoke an analog just to "close out" the day. I know this may sound silly, and of corse the answer is "just vape instead" but Its not a nic delivery or actual smoking urge, its more of a ritual. Do you guys have any experience with this? It seems like most people say that as soon as they vaped they never smoked again and were instantly disgusted by analogs, however this is not the case with me. Anyone have similar experiences, and if so, what tips do you have? Thanks!

I allowed myself that morning smoke for about 5-6 wks. To keep the peace with withdrawal. Still quit easily. My final ones, when I was ready, I lit, took a puff or two and put i still lit in the ashtray and started vaping. I never picked that lit smoke back up after I got my PV in my hand.

I'm glad I didn't punish myself by an immediate forced quit. Had zero withdrawal symptoms.

Add 1 smoke right after dinner and you would be describing me :)

What I did to break those last couple of smokes was to go to one higher strength eliquid, in a really cigarette-like flavor, and then vape it precisely at those times. It worked for me, after a couple weeks I put away the higher strength. A friend is doing the same thing, told me he had the few hard craving points, I made some 30 mg tobacco for him, last time I saw him he said it was working.

Keep in mind that even though you're getting nicotine, there are SO many other chemicals that you're body is used to getting that you won't get with vaping. Remind yourself that this is a good thing.

When I first started vaping, I dripped onto an atomizer, and found the exercise of finding my device and 6ml bottle of liquid akin to finding my pack and lighter. Maybe the added ritual will help you. Don't be afraid to try a higher nicotine strength liquid than the one you got.

Quitting ain't easy, friend. For me, and a whole lot of other folks, vaping helps a lot more than NRTs.

The key for me was to pick my highest smoking time and up my nic level for that time. In my case, it was in the morning. I would chain smoke 5 or 6 cigarettes (full flavor with a plastic filter) the first hours after waking so I vape 12mgs then. I taper down to 9mgs (by mixing 6mgs with 12mgs in my carto) around noon and 6mgs the rest of the day. Sometimes I do no nic if I'm up late as nic tends to keep me awake.

I'm backsliding myself, and my problem is pretty much the same as yours, lol! However, I did make it 2 full months analog free & am working my way back again. Mornings for me aren't too bad, but bedtime was tough until I bought a $4 atomizer. It's the only time I drip, and I've ordered several sample packs from different vendors, so I replace the evening ritual with a "taste adventure".

I have the exact same rituals as you do! The 1st one of the day and the last one at night I've found to be my hardest. It helps to keep in mind how many others you've avoided during the day. Lots for me. It's been since I was 18 that a whole pack lasted me over 3 days. It's definite progress! At my 2nd job I work outside, and always had a cig hanging out of my mouth. My e-cig is too heavy to hold in my mouth and that still bugs me.

This is very reminiscent of how I felt when I first started vaping! For the first few weeks, I cut down. I started using an app for my Android phone that allowed me to limit the number of cigs I had on any given day and would time me as to how long it was between cigs. It became a game to beat this score.

The first cig of the day was the hardest to quit. I took advice from this forum to up my nicotine for the first couple of hours of the day to help it pass. So as I was using 18mg, I upped it to 24mg for a couple of hours (I'd usually just refill my cartomiser once) and that did the trick. I was back on 18mg for the rest of the day after that. After a couple of weeks (with a raging hangover), I didn't need or want the 24mg on a morning and it disappeared from use after that. I still have about 3ml of it left for emergencies though.

The ritual took time to get over too. For a good few weeks, I'd wake up and think to go outside for a cigarette. Then, I'd roll over, grab my PV and lie in bed, looking at the bad weather outside and enjoy being warm and cosy and not showing off my Kermit the Frog PJs to my neighbours as I would if I was still smoking.

Another tip is to make sure that you've got a variety of flavours. When you do kick that final one, you may experience 'vaper's tongue' which is where you lose your sense of taste for your juice after a week or so. It returns but it's really annoying while it hangs around! Maybe have some hard candy (boiled sweets for us Brits!) to suck on while you vape so at least you're getting some flavour.

A final tip, and probably the most important one, is to not beat yourself up if you're struggling to quit that last one. Take your time and count the cigarettes you don't smoke rather than the ones you do. You'll get there if you give yourself time and are patient with yourself. You CAN do this!x

Not silly at all. I had the same darned issue. I upped the nic as recommended, but that 'ritualized' smoke craving just didn't get satisfied.

What worked for me was creating new rituals to replace the old. It took a bit to figure this out, and about 3 days to fully replace the rituals.

For example, in the morning instead of sitting on the deck with my tea and analog, I got out on the deck sip my tea, vape and top off my cartos with various juices.

    Best of luck!

It's gonna hit you when you find a juice you love, and a setup that works for you. I was double dipping for about 2 months-it finally hit me that not only was I spending too much $ keeping both habits, but that I was getting way more gratification from vaping than I was from smoking. I decided to go whole hog into vaping and ditch cigs because I wanted more toys-I got lucky and found a juice early on. I think that's the hardest part. Once you find the setup and flavor that works, it's a matter of time. I promised to buy myself a good pv if I could stay off ciga completely for a month. Haven't looked back since. Good luck-it ain't easy, but once you kick the habit, you'll have a cool new hobby.

It's hard at first. I was one who tapered-off, too. It got to the point I was digusted by the imposition of smoking. I had to use self control. I had to remind myself, "I'm going to get through this urge." I'd vape like a broken factory steam pipe until the urge passed. Sometimes I wasn't satisfied. Most times I was.

I stopped the stink sticks with a half pack that went with me everywhere for a week for "just in case". After that week, I knew I had the smoke beat.

Don't trip. There's an addiction and a habit that you've established over years. It's not a "Just quit it" scenario IMO.

Described my habit and final days almost to a T. I messed around with the PV for a week or so, then took my final pack, divvied it up to taper down over 5 days (6, 5, 4, 3, 2), went to bed after that last cig and woke up and just went to the vape. I really don't want to come across the wrong way, but the fact of the matter is one has to finally make that leap to leave the analogs behind. No matter how long you smoke only those one or two a day, you still have to have that first day with no smokes. At that point, it really is all psychological (well, in 99% of all cases) and you just have to make the leap.

Several people have mentioned the "rituals" of smoking - keep them, just vape instead. I'm not saying it's easy. I vape inside now, but sometimes I can puff and puff and puff and I still don't feel satisfied. I go outside just like I did when I was a smoker, have a few puffs and the satisfaction is there. I only offer this as an example of the ritual aspect - the nicotine is such a small component of the habit. Look at the failure rate of the patch or the gum...

One other thing that helps me is to acknowledge the times when I want a cigarette and admit it... out loud. I still find myself finishing some task, getting ready to get in the car, finish eating, etc., then I'm looking for something or getting ready to do something... I can't quite recall what I am looking for, or getting ready to do, then suddenly I realize I am looking for my smokes or getting ready to go smoke a cig. At this moment, I will say out loud, "I want a cigarette." I say it when I am alone; I say it to The Wife when she is here. I just acknowledge it, admit it to myself and/or others, and then I move on. I vape instead. I still want that cigarette multiple times a day, but it's getting easier and easier and less frequent.

Hope this wasn't too rambling and provides some help. Stick with it - you can do it!

My advise is too just stop. Break the routines. Get up grab your e cig and make your coffee. Use it while the coffee is brewing. When I stopped I just stopped. Your body will detox from all the chemicals in analogs but you will still have the nicotine. The hardest part is to just stop. Juice made analogs taste bad so that helped me. I also didn't use tobacco flavored juice either. I went with sweet or fruit flavors. Something that didn't taste like an analog. Its all mental thing. Good luck. Happy vaping
