Those Boden BD13 wicks are a total PiTA to wrap, the wire had to be red hot (butane torch) while wrapping or you would get gaps that caused hot spots. We all had a small butane torch in those days from using mesh wicks, which are still my favourite from all the old wicks. Mesh wicks had the cleanest flavour and were the easiest to maintain, just dry fire and rinse.
The best part of using those BD13 wicks was when you were on the final wrap of your coil and the wick snapped in the middle...
