Anyone here smoke a few cigarettes a day while vaping before switching over?

I just started vaping two weeks ago (to the day actually). I bought a crappy Vapin plus starter kit with 15ml of liquid at a Murphy gas station. The first week I still smoked quite a bit. This past week I've only had 1 pack, plus I had one cigarette with my wife tonight (day 1 of week 3). I know for a fact that I can quit for good now, despite the occasional temptations or setbacks. 2 weeks ago I would have never believed that I went all last week with only smoking 1 pack of cigarettes. I'm 33 and have smoked since I was 14, consistently since I was 17, and the last 5 or 6 years I've had about a 1.5 PAD habit.

Sorry to hijack... this is my first post and I'm excited. To answer the question, yes I've had a cigarette here and there but I've avoided a cartoon of cigarettes already by vaping and I've only been at it two weeks (serious for 1 week). I agree with Deeo in that it's the cigarettes that we don't smoke that counts.

Some great posts thanks for sharing :)

Ours was a mix of both, the better half and I were both 30+ year smokers and I was intrigued with the idea of switching to an electronic cigarette while she had no interest what so ever. I committed, bought a $49 eGo kit and to the best of my recollection (may have had one or two the first day) pretty much stopped analogs immediately. It wasn't easy, knew though if I allowed myself the occasional analog I'd probably not succeed...

My better half was a little challenge, a real test of patience and gentle persistence. I got her interested primarily doing the "hey try this" thing, took her with me to our only local B&M at the time to try some juices and once she found "the juice" she really opened up to the idea. Took a couple weeks for her to get down to a couple a day and a couple more to end the ties, lettin' go of those 1 or 2 that she was allowing herself...

We've both been smoke free for over a year and it's actually pretty nice having your better half share the excitement of a new device or tasting a new yummy flavor and the fun of checking out a new store together :)

This is a great topic. I've learned a lot! Thanks.

I don't mean to interrupt, but could someone tell me why all of a sudden I cannot post a new thread? Or lead me where I can find out?

Thanks

After 70 posts you can no longer open a thread in the New Members Forum, you can continue to post in threads as long as you like...

Good luck :)

Did you just switch all together to vaping or did you still smoke a few cigarettes a day before switching? Do you still smoke while vaping?

Took me six weeks to stop smoking entirely. I saw an immediate drop from a 2 pack a day habit to maybe a half dozen cigs a day then it sort of drifted down until a year ago this month, I ran out of cigs and just never bothered to buy more.

It's not at all unusual to take a while to stop totally. I know some folks around here that have been smoke free longer than I have who took longer to quit entirely. Some walk away their first day, others take a while. But...

Long as the smoking is going down, it's a good thing. :)

I started young, because of careless cousins who left there's around a curious kid. Then would only smoke at parties when I got older, and really only smoked, consistently (I suppose is the right word) for about 2 or 3 years so quitting and going to vape was really easy... but the smell of a cigarette lighting up still gives me the urge sometimes haha

You know, I was stunned earlier this year to discover even that went away. Walked through some guy's smoke as I came out of a store and I realized I still liked the smell of tobacco but had no urge to smoke.

That I did not expect. But, so help me, now, I can be around smokers and not care. I figured I'd have to be one of those annoying ex-smokers who's so rabid about nobody lighting up anywhere in a five mile radius. Turns out, nope. I get a vague, almost nostalgic thing of, "I used to like that". And that seems to be it.

Weird...

Being on campus I'm around it ALL the time so I suppose I just need some time away!

Oh yeah, that could be tough at first. I hit this "don't care" months in. Not even sure when it stopped bothering me to be around smoke. Sort of snuck up on me.

Still, I was a heavy smoker nobody (especially not me) thought would ever quit. So ever getting to a point where smoke had no real effect on me is... surprising to say the least...

Smoked about three stinkys a day for the first 30 days of vaping after smoking for 38 years. Seems like everyone is a little different. Don't rush it. Relax and enjoy. Just my 2 cents.

Welcome to ECF, 5whiskey! Sounds like you've got the proper spirit to make it work. If you ever run into a complication with your setup, your liquid, or just the process of quitting, you've come to the right place. Keep it up!

I am going back and forth too.. I really want to be done with analogs. I think i went down on nicotine on my ejuice too fast. So i ordered some stronger juice to use when the urge to smoke gets really strong. I really dont enjoy analogs at all anymore. Vaping on the other hand is fantastic

I started out at 18 mg as a pack a day smoker. I stayed there until I was completely done with analogs. As I got a new device or ran out of juice, I tapered off the nicotine to a lower level. Now I am at 0-6 mg depending on the juice. Some juices just don't come in 0 :-( but it's been a successful 10 months down to 0 finally

I smoked for 30 years, a pack to a pack and 1/2 a day. Think I smoked maybe 2 or 3 cigarettes in total on the first day then totally quit smoking from that point on and never looked back.
One thing I found very, very important was to have good equipment and a real good juice you like as an all day Vape. I used 12 mg strength and had no problem at all. This was the 1st time I've ever quit smoking and I'm so happy I found Vaping.
Good Luck & Vape for Life!!!

As a pack a day smoker for several years, it's been really hard for me to make the switch. There was a lot of overlap between vaping and smoking for a couple months, and I wasn't much below my daily pack. I started off with your average starter kit with a Kanger T3S and it would leak easily. I'm assuming it was user error but after upgrading and having a bit more experience, I've loved my setup and enjoy using it a lot more.

So far this week, I've only had one cigarette each morning with my coffee. I don't plan on buying another pack, and I'm finally confident that I can make the switch to vaping only!
