I purchased a few of the A-7 rba.

Two of them went to my daughter. She has had a short causing the spring to collapse twice in her Reo Grand.

Upon inspection the center post is very loose and moves back and forth if even with the bottom of the connector.

Has anyone had this problem? Any known fixes?

The other she has seems stable. I have and use one also and the center post must be all the way flush or it is loose. Even when in that position is will still move some.

I also placed this reply on aNUther forum nerak, but here it is again.

I have been using the A7 on my grand for a couple of months now. One of the A7s I have has a finicky center post like this as well, but has never given me any fits. What I do with that one is, unscrew it so that it is just slightly extended past the outer threads. When you screw it onto the REO, tighten it gently until the atty doesn't wiggle anymore. It should be firm in the drip well of the Grand. DO NOT TIGHTEN IT ALL THE WAY DOWN. If you over tighten any rba on a REO, chances are you will split the insulator on the center pin of the REO connector and cause a short. This was a very common problem when the ERA first showed up. Don't over tighten anything and it should be just fine.

Thank you so much, again! LOL

I will be sure to tell her not to tighten it down too much. She is a button masher. I just found out when she used my Mini 2.0 and mashed the button mod down so far it would not fire.

Sometimes I forget that she doesn't read here as much and may not know or remember not to tighten the attys. I know mine with the loose center pin is doing fine, but I don't put it on tight. I make sure any cartos or atty is only put on till it feels like it is getting tight, then I back it off a bit.

Someone was nice and offered a brand new A-7 just for shipping cost. I threw in some extra and it will be sent to her. She will also get another from me when my co-op black chrome come in.

I'm glad i read this...all three of my A7's center posts are loose! I wonder why the company doesn't put in screws that fit.

I have 4 more coming and I hope I don't have that problem with them!

Karen, you make me feel okay about myself after I've gone on what I call a "spending spree!" LOL I just ordered a Hornet (to fit my Minis) and have been saying to myself, "I don't NEED any more RBAs!!! I have more attys than I have REOs to put them on!" I know you're sharing with your daughter.... I guess I just need to find someone to share mine with so I can keep justifying buying another one when I want to. :)

I now have 2 Reomizers, 1 A-7, with three more coming for me. Kim has two now, 1 more in the mail from a nice person, and 1 more coming from me.

I have not stepped out of the less expensive realm. Want to learn more and see if these will be my favorite vape producers! I intend on using some atty's still. They are good for now since I keep so many REO's going at home. Of course I could use fewer and just use RBA's! I don't know at this point. Gotta watch my spending, that I do know!

Karen, I just got two A7s in last night. I boiled them first because of the machine oil.

When you say the center post is loose that is an understatement!!!! So loose I'm not sure how it is staying in. Every time I take it off I have to use a little screw driver to bring it back down. I'm going to read on down thread to see if someone has a fix.

There is a fix, had to do it on one of mine because one mod I use the A7, the A7 is recessed and it was just bugging me that I can't really see what's going on...

Dismantle the A7 (completely)...you'll see the threaded tube part that the center pin screws into...I used my bench vice but you could use a pair of pliers if you have a good grip...squeeze the threaded tube just enough to put it slightly out of round...not so much that you can't get the center pin back in, just slightly...pita I know but you can't use dental floss, teflon tape or anything else or you'll lose conductivity and it'll stop working...even so, it's a 2 min job at most...

Thanks much. I would love to make some time to get around to doing that. (It takes me longer to locate tools and set up than it should. I need an organizing assistant.) The A7 loose center pin really bugs me and I've only had my two since last night. (I have five coming from co-op and I'm especially looking forward to the black ones.) Having the ERA to compare any others to makes one very critical of others.

Just got my A-7 today...forgot to boil...ugghhhh... no problem- will boil!!
Fits one of my 2 mini woodvils but it really looks funny on it- really top heavy.
Does NOT fit any metal Mini Reos...didn't figure it would though I had to try.
Fits all of my Grands (regular and VV) and my VV woodvil!!

I guess when you boil it you lose the wick and coil already in it.... oh well.

The wick/coil it comes with are throw-aways anyway, you're gonna do a way better job than they did...soaking in a mug of boiling water and dish soap is a must for the A7's...all 3 of mine where just dripping with machine oil...and they come pre-wicked and ready to go? really? like you're supposed to vape that? pfft

Boiling doesn't hurt the coil/wick. Afterall I've been boiling attys for over 2 years. One issue I had is that one screw/hole, on one A7, severes the 32 Kanthal wire when I tighten it down enough for good contact. Severed three in a row. I'm figuring that 28 and 30 Kanthal will hold up better. (I haven't had time to check it out.)

The Hornet is going to be nearly perfect on Mini. It is a tiny bit taller than ERA but not by much and it is much, much shorter than many RBAs.

Yep, got the A-7 boiled and built a new coil at 1.98 ohms....vapes very well, but it sure isn't an ERA or a Reomizer!!
I wish there was a way to cut it down to make it shorter, but the coil posts sit up more anyway and the top cap screws on so nothing you can really do about it. For the price, it's a nice atty!!

Really hard to beat the price but it ain't no ERA or REOmizer like you say. Once A7 is on REO its flimsy build shortcomings aren't so apparent. I've ordered some Contact paper brass to try out on the A7. I've used a lot of repositional wall stickers on attys and they last through many boilings so I'm hoping the contact paper brass will be similar. I, also, ordered some gold leaf foil to try. I'll do it first on plain surfaces like A7 and REOmizer before I tackle RBAs or Hornets with indention. Good thing about leaf foils is they do well on complicated surfaces and can be brush stretched into crevices. Not sure what adhesive is going to be best though. It won't take much. I want brass look for Woodvils. The co-op Hornet "gold" may not match the Woodvil CCs as much as I want.

I wish I would have discovered A7's before I got all my ERA's...sure, a stock A7 does fall short of an ERA but if you have the tools and ability to drill the cap for side air (after you screw on the cap and mark where your coil will be) then seal the A7 to your Grand/Ali/Bogger/whatever...with an o ring (so it's no longer bottom air), it works every bit as well as an ERA, I agree it's physical size is a consideration, but if you can drill SS and size isn't an issue you can save yourself a wack of cash (and wait time) with no loss in performance...as far as build quality goes, I guess a fair analogy would be comparing a the fit/finish of a $25,000 car to that of a $75,000 car? do you need heated leather seats, a 10 speaker touchscreen GPS/entertainment system and a walnut burl dash to go fast?

Feisty Alice, the A7 is actually SS...you should be able to take it apart and heat tint it...I have several ERA's and I've turned the caps into a Brass colour, blue, purple and black...just depends on how long you swirl it under a propane torch...SS oxidizes with heat and depending on how hot you get it depends on the colour achieved...I haven't actually done an A7 yet (I will this weekend) but with the ERA's...wash your parts really good then wipe them down with alcohol (you don't want any contaminants blotching up an even colour)...string them through a coat hanger and swirl them through the flame of a good hot propane torch to get even heating...as the SS heats it will start turning a muddy yellow, then go to a golden colour, then start getting brassy, then go to a muddy brown, then start to blue, then purple then ultimately a dark dark purpley black, careful not to go to long. when done set it on a cookie sheet to cool slowly (don't quench in water!). The parts stay shiny, just a different colour...and unless you take a power buffer and polishing compound to it, the colour is permanent.
