Yup, I don't get any questioning of my status from my family. Probably helps that everyone smokes, so they know serious business when they see it. My friends are also supportive. There was only one person at work who took to my switching by saying "But why don't you just quit smoking?" Why don't you just... um... with your... um... hey shut up! *cries in corner*

I haven't heard any bad or good about my "quitting" but to be honest with you I am on the fence myself, part of me is proud of not smoking a cigarette but then again there's always the fear in the back my mind that I may have traded one bad addiction for another. my brother works for the FDA and I asked him about e cigs and he really had no answer since they're not actually regulated yet.

Hell the fact that my family is civil is a got dang god send. Talk about disfunction, guess how my parents met back in the day? They both were married to other people and lived next door to each other. You can fill out the rest. The fact I quit smoking is a pebble in the river of an alcoholic extramarital verbally abusive childhood I had.

Everyone in my life has been extremely and overwhelmingly supportive since I switched six months ago to vaping.
Except for my dad.
He was forced to quit a 2-3 PAD habit cold turkey due to a lung and chest issue.

In his eyes, I've yet to quit. Trading one addiction for another. Yada yada yada.

But, I don't put much stock in his thoughts as I have NEVER, in my 25 years, heard him say something genuinely positive about anything. The most pessimistic person I know.

But, the most important thing, Jamez, is as long as YOU know that you quit and are already becoming a healthier person, that's really all that matters. :)

To the OP this is a great question. Never thought about it. And to ole Johnny here. I completely feel you here. My dad .....ed me up one side and down the other when i started smoking. I ve been smoking almost 8 years. He's always hated it. Me and my mother got started into vaping and he took no interest in it. Nor would give me or my mother credit for not smoking cigarettes. He still sees it as a pacifier. He's like your dad. Pessimistic, always negative. Can never give anyone positive feedback. Iv had a hard time getting over this, but piss on him. I may still have to have my (pacifier) but i love this thing and im not longer harming my body sooo,, ()@&#(%)$ him :)

My dad thinks its fantastic that i quit smoking. He quit about 8-10 years ago but still chews the gum occasionally and almost always has regular gum on him. He knows i quit because i no longer smell like an ashtray. My friends are supportive and dont question my switch in the least. Most of them either want to quit or plan to when they are ready.

BTW i just made 30days and i feel its safe to say ive finally quit smoking. It no longer appeals to me at all and does not taste near as good as this blue berry waffle im vaping atm. :D

I feel for ya. You probably have mixed feelings for people like me who have grown to severely dislike the FDA with your brother working there. Honestly, if I knew what I do now about them and worked there, I would find a new job. But that's just me.

On the other point though, you have traded a bad addiction for a habit. An addiction is something that you know is bad for you and your family, but you do it anyway. Sometimes sacrificing something else that you need in order to feed the addiction.
A habit is something that you do that you enjoy, but when push comes to shove, you can stop. I'm down to about 6 mg nic, so I think with my stockpile, I can survive long enough to cut it to nothing if I have to. But the rest of it is not even as bad for you as some food habits people have :)

I have to admit that I did not really care about what my family and my friends thought about my smoking cigarettes for thirt years, as long as I did not disturb them and I never did in my opinion as I never smoked inside a building. I think they knew this and therefore I got never lectured, so I find it quite funny that over the last couple of weeks, after more than nine months of vaping, my hubby, who used to smoke and now vapes, told me that the whole family is sooooo happy that I stopped smoking.
I assume they must have talked behind my back...

Generally, everyone has been supportive with my quitting smoking.
Coworkers, family and friends.
I have had a few questions asking when I was gonna quit vaping, my response has always been, I don't really ever PLAN to stop vaping because I love it!
I have lowered my nic levels from 12-18mg down to 0-10mg.
Im mostly making or buying new flavors around 6mg now.
My wife was really funny when I started vaping.
I would take a vape and ask her what the flavor smelled like....every single time her response was Tobacco!
None of my flavors were tobacco based, mostly fruity and candy flavors.
Also, when I first started, she said she didn't like me vaping in the house, since it replaced my smoking.
I never smoked in the house.
She was a smoker too, up until a few years ago.
It took a lot of convincing and educating for her to feel comfortable with it.
It was really weird, as she is normally very level headed and laid back.
My mom on the other hand nearly breaks down in tears of joy every time I see her.
She is so happy I quit.
She was a smoker for many years as well.
All of my friends love it too. They always try and guess what flavor I'm vaping. Some are getting pretty good at it too. :)

For the most part, the non-smokers I know are happy for me and call what I do "vaping." The smokers and x-smokers are a problem though in that they hit me with the "still smoking" thing. I find that very telling. With the rude ones, I've come to telling them not to ever refer to me as a "smoker" because that would make them a liar. I enjoy the expressions I see then as well as the silence.

... And for some reason they find it funny taking a drag and then coughing up their lungs... Must be the taste...
That created such an image in my head! I see people passing around an e-cig, coughing, and laughing.

My grandmother thought it was great that I quit smoking. She always asked me what flavor I was vaping and loved the smells of some. She was fanatical about no one smoking in her house. She hated the smell. But, she welcomed my vaping.

Everyone else just asks if it works and how long since I quit. Everyone either smokes or knows someone who smokes that they would like to help quit. When they ask, you can always see the desperation in their eyes.

I'm 19 and I live with my parents as well. Similar to what JonnyB88 said, my parents also say that I've traded one addiction for another. They keep trying to get me to quit vaping. They tell me "It's bad for you" and feed me lies and slander that they read on Big Tobacco Company-funded articles saying that "E-Cigarettes are toxic" and "They contain more, or as many, carcinogens as a regular tobacco cigarette." It gets kind of annoying being constantly bashed by my own parents for VAPING, rather than polluting my lungs with tar, carbon monoxide, argon, and over 4,000 other chemicals that I would rather avoid. I retaliate by saying "Would you rather me go back to smoking?" When they try to convince me that e-cigarettes are bad for me, I just tell them the same thing I tell anybody else who asks me if they're bad for you: "Because e-cigarettes are somewhat new and extensive studies have not yet been performed, there is always a risk involved. However, I would rather take that risk than continue smoking, which HAS BEEN PROVEN to cause over 450,000 deaths to Americans each year, which equates to about 51 people dying every HOUR from smoking." At least I've never heard of anybody dying, or getting cancer, from vaping e-cigarettes.

I can understand that, when people say that you've replaced one addiction with another they're fundamentally correct. With vaping though, it's a MUCH safer addiction lol. It always gets on my nerves when people believe everything they hear in the media, my parents are kinda like that but not to the extent of yours lol. They were both smokers at one time so they understand how hard it is to quit so they never put me down for vaping, my mom encourages it, my dad is kinda on the fence though lol :p The main thing is don't let that bring you down, just keep vaping and remember that you don't have to convince anyone but yourself :)
