Ash is at it again, this time sending their message of e-cig doom to the Attorney Generals of each state. This makes the fight a legal battle and not necessarily under medical purview. The mere hint of harm could shut down licensee's and block state line delivery. I suggest we contact our AGs.

ASH PRESS RELEASE [7/30/09]
State AGs Asked to Ban All E-Cigarette Sales
Success in OR Could Serve as Model/Precedent

Attorneys general in 49 states are being petitioned to ban the further sale of e-cigarettes until their safety can be determined by the Food and Drug Administration [FDA]. They are being petitioned to follow the lead of the Oregon Attorney General's office which has just obtained such court orders, by Action on Smoking and Health (ASH), the group whose legal petition, and scheduled appearance on NBC-TV Nightly News, precipitated last week's FDA warningabout some of the dangers of e-cigarettes. SEE: FDA to Regulate E-Cigarettes as Toxins are Found / / Law Prof's NBC-TV Appearance and Petition Played Big Role AND ecigpetition

Well-- -that was to be expected really when you think about it. Good politics for this AG to play---Just goes to show what happens when the rules for product approval were not adhered to. The way the e-cig was handled by the Manufacter's was really a travesty.

I would still would like to know why njoy has not released it's lab reports?

Here is my letter to the Ohio AG
Who runs the state of Ohio? Is it the legislature, or is it ASH and other anti smoking groups telling the legislators what to do. I understand that ASH has sent a letter directing state AD's to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes. I have smoked a pack a day of Marlboros for over 40 years. Now, I smoke 1-5 cigarettes a day using my electronic cigarette instead. Although nothing is 100% safe, my e cig is thousands of times safer than real cigarettes. Please view the breakdown at The Rest of the Story: Tobacco News Analysis and Commentary ASH does not want the appearance of smoking, so it recommends Nicorette instead. Nicorette contains the same chemicals as e cigs. ASH is out of control. I vote for people like you to run my government. I do not vote to let ASH and other anti smokers tell the elected officials what to do. Please examine the real story about e cigs, and do not let anti smokers control one more consumer issue in the state of Ohio or elsewhere. If this administration will not stand and serve all constituents including smokers, perhaps another administration in the next election will.

May I use this letter to my state AG a modified version of coarse?

I find it funny that ASH has a list of the dangerous chemicals in tobacco products on their site, viewable ONLY if you pay them! And I also find it funny that a group of people with so much influence over OUR RITES with the government can't afford a web site that doesn't look like the first one ever!

Just preface ASH with a "C" and you'll find the real reason behind the groups actions. Forced donations for info is not a charitable endeavor, it isn't even nice! Their actions speak louder than words. ;)

People like these asses will not stop until every damned action people do is first dictated by the government. These asses don't want freedom, they want an automated society filled with individuals that can not think for themselves.

I'm all for FDA regulations, but this is ridiculous.. utterly disgusting.. These hypocrites acknowledge that e-cigs are safer yet would rather have us go back to analogs.

With a lawyer, such as Banzhaf, directing the efforts of ASH they use the same methodology over and over, and have been brilliantly successful. But all supposed good things come to an end. The more that ASH tries to dictate human behavior the more extreme the group gets. Once they are hailed as extremists...they simply fade away. ;)

I was so worked up over this, I immediately started to draft a letter to my state's AG and other elected officials in response. But I really need a cooling off period first. Otherwise, I will come across as a raving lunatic. Yes. I'm that mad. And I realize that appearing like a crazy person will not help the cause.

jimik is correct; this group of hypocrites admits that e-cigs are safer. It's right there on the front of their amateurish homepage. Yet they want us to go back to using them. Why would that be? It *has* to be the money trail. It's the same old story. They have demonized smokers, and smokers must stay in their place. Oh, the horror if smokers stopped smoking! Where would their donations go? Who would purchase their literature? So they can't have that. Oh, no no no. Let's herd them back to the smoking areas where everyone can see them and hate them even more. Then we'll get more money.

And the 'what about the children?' argument is beyond ridiculous. 'Training wheels' for children learning to smoke? That doesn't even make any sense.

Let's see: I'm a teenager curious about smoking. How should I go about this? I can either: A) Bum a cigarette from a friend or B) Get my hands on around $150.00, go to the mall, buy one of those starter kits from a kiosk, charge the batteries, and find a supplier for atomizers that fit my model when the first one dies in a few weeks. Oh, and then find a supplier of liquid or prefilled carts.

How do they think I, as a teenager, started smoking? I smoked for a year without buying a single cigarette. I had plenty of friends from whom I could bum one. Well guess what? You really can't bum e-cigs. Sorry guy. All I have is this. And I don't know you well enough to let you have a drag on it.

Sorry about the rant. I just had to get it out. I feel a little better now.

Hey GregH I feel your pain! You raise an interesting topic in regards to the monies this group takes in. A big contributor to this group and others is the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation (RWJF) which was founded by J&J. Johson & Johnson actually makes numerous NRT or cessation aids. This is an apparent conflict of interest.

Not really. Ecigs are a threat to the other smoking cessation products, and they know it. They also get funding from the government, who gets tax revenue from cigarette sales -another threat to them.
