i just wanted to know if any one else out there has asthma and vapes with out problems.

my brother has not had to touch his inhailer in about 3 years. even with smoking the past year or so. he smokes about a half a pack or less a day. he bought an e-cig around the same time that i did. about a week ago. the first full day using it he was noticing that his chest was feeling tight and he was having a little trouble breathing.

the e-cig worked great for him. neither one of us smoked that day. but he put the e-cig down untill we can find out if thats what was causing the problem.

we both got the njoy npro and where smoking the menthol carto's that came with it.

i have a new 510 kit comming in on monday with some cheepo liquids to hold me over untill i find the time to look over more of the liquid sites.

so my question is. should he try 100% pg or 100% vg? i don't know what is in the njoy carto's as far as vg or pg.

i would hate to have him try 100% of either and find out thats what caused it only to make things worse.

so if any of you happen to have asthma could chime in and help us out, that would be great!

thanks!

Hubby has asthma. He chewed, never smoked, but vapes now without any problems. I buy a 50/50 mix for him because he stated that more VG sat too heavily in his chest. Also, he can't vape menthol as it starts him into coughing fits which leads to his inhaler.

I would bet that njoy is all PG or darn close to it. Usually, prefilled carts/cartomizers lean more on PG and that's what is bothering him or it could be the menthol. Maybe try a 50/50 mix without menthol and see if it continues.

thanks we will try a few dif things. i'm just worried that if we did the trying of 100% on either side that it might react badly with him. though i just found another post on trouble breathing that has some asthma related stuff in there. its 14+ pages and i'm only half way thru it. it just didn't come up when i did the search. when my stuff comes in on monday we will try it out. they are 50 50 mixes. the only one i have here now is a 50 50 menthol.

i'm sure we will find what works.

and just read something in that post about another njoy user. they said...

Yes, I did experience the problem, but it turned out to be caused not by the liquid, nor by the atomizer. It was caused by the cartridge filler material. After a day of using a pre-filled cartridge I had been adding liquid for several days in a row. These were the carts for the NJOY (RN 4081) that come with polyfill. I happened to notice that there were fibers sticking up when I went to refill the cartridge and figured out that I had been inhaling these.

I have switched to pyramid tea bags as my filler and the problem is gone.

thanks again!

here is the link to the other post. it has quite a bit of info on my same question. it just didn't come up in the search.

I have also found that PG causes all sorts of throat and lung issues with me, and only vape VG juices. I do not have asthma or COPD, however, so YMMV. Vaping VG can cause increased phlegm, however. And some flavors are irritating too. There are a lot of people here who have asthma, however, yet there are few reports of vaping causing an attach. Does not mean it doesn't happen, they just might not let everyone here know.

PG and certain flavors, especially in higher %s in a juice, forced me to DIY my own juices. If he is very concerned, and rightly so, I would actually start with unflavored juices of various PG/VG amounts, just to see how either affects him. Then bring flavors in little by little. Even 5% for some flavors will give a nice taste. He should definitely stay away from cinnamon juices and custard types. Certain custard flavors do have inhalation risks, such as Capellas Vanilla Custard flavor. Cinnamon is a known lung and throat irritant, and causes all sorts of throat swelling and sore-producing problems for some vapers here.

Take is slow, be patient, and he will most likely find, or make, juices that are just fine for him. But again, there are not many asthma type problems reported for vaping. If nothing works, there is always swedish snus, which really works well and tastes good too, with virtually zero disease profile of any kind, especially compared to smokers. The swedish method of tobacco processing gives a product with very low carcinogen content. US snus, however, still has the nasties in it, although it is still much safer than smoking.

Best of luck!

It looks like everyone has different experiences with their asthma. My asthma is very light and it really only affects me when I'm exercising. I usually just take a puff on the inhaler right before heading to the gym, and that's all I need. Since I started on the e-cigs, I have tried exercising without using my inhaler, and the asthma has not bothered me. I've been vaping with 100% PG though. Recently I ordered a 2/3 PG 1/3 VG liquid. I vaped on that all day and I noticed that my chest started feeling tight by the end of the day. The next morning I had a little wheezing and a sore throat.

Although I only tried that VG liquid once, I decided to just store it in the fridge and try it again another day. I don't know if the VG is what caused my asthma or if it was just coincidence.

I have bronchospasm issues and have not had to use my inhaler since I started vaping last year. I have noticed though that the higher the vg the more mucous I make, and more wheezing. Shame too since some of my favs are 50/50. Now I am on the prowl for makers that will make it with mostly pg.
I have one vendor that does that but doesn't carry some of my fav juice flavors. Time to learn some diy.
