My first 2 dogs were from a breeder (GSD). I wanted to get a rescue this time. He was about 6 months old and very skinny. I think he was abused or neglected so he had some issues. Also, his tail was broken (you could see an unnatural bend/dent on his tail) but it's not as noticeable now. The shelter gave me the rest of the bag of food the first owner left and it was "Acme dog food" and looked like cardboard chips :/. I went thru about 8 different dog foods to find one that he liked. He gained about 13 lbs in the first couple of weeks I had him, from 42lbs to 55lbs. He's now 62lbs after 5 yrs.

Here's a pic a few days after I brought him home:

Yes, I've been watching youtube videos regarding coil building. I just bought 28g Kanthal - I have no idea if it's 2.5mm - it didn't give that in the description. I also bought a coiler kit so I'll have the tools I need. The coil wrapping link if a little confusing for me because I'm not sure of all the variables to put in all the boxes. When I tried what I thought was correct, it said I would need 15 coil wraps.....??
Let's do an example.
1. You bought 28 gauge Kanthal, so choose "Kanthal A1/APM" - which is what most, if not all, of the vape shops sell.

2. You select "28 AWG" which means "28 gauge", which is the thickness of the Kanthal you bought. The ".321 mm" that appears next to it appears automatically. Don't worry if it's slightly different from what it says on your spool (although it shouldn't be).

3. You select "single coil", 'cuz that's what the KM3 is made for and you don't want to get fancy at this point.

4. Set your target resistance at - let's say 1.2 ohm for example - or wherever you want.

5. You put in "2" mm where it says "inner diameter of coil" - 'cuz I said so (most, if not all of us here use between 2 and 3 mm drill bits or mandrels to wrap coils - the outer diameter of the bit or mandrel is the same as the inner diameter of the coil). The Coil Master jig you bought has mandrels for 2, 2.5, and 3 mm coils, amongst others.

6. Leave the "leg length (total)" at 5mm unless you really want to measure and calculate that for yourself (I don't).

. . . And you get your result, which if you plugged in my suggested values, is 7-8 wraps, depending on how you count them. The result may not be 100% accurate, but it will get you close enough.

Nickel is soft so it's harder to build with. When I started, I bought 30g and 28g. I think I only used a few feet of the 30g 100' spool.

Hey Kat D!!! :D

Any more Kats and we'll be on our way to a crazy cat lady starter kit :p

@lauragal -- I don't know if you're a visual learner or not. The info Jumpin and Katya gave was superb. I'm one that likes to watch...

<stop it, all of you.> ;)

I believe you prolly bookmarked some good KF videos. Pour a bevvie of your choice, and watch them all. Little by little, believe it or not, it starts to make sense.

MY advice? Go slowly, have fun, vape proudly.

(and continue to ask questions! we all learn from them!)

What type of cotton do you use? I just bought my first Kayfun (mini 3), and it will be the first time I've tried to re-build. Just reading a bunch of threads to see what might be best for a beginner - wire, cotton, # of coils, etc. Thank you!
I use the Japanese cotton pads. Very clean with no break-in flavor.

Still holding off from ordering the cheaper Plus version 4596400 until I see some reviews. Only differences I can see are Stainless steel center screw, and a little bag and screwdriver. Would be nice if it is as good as the more expensive clone.
I ordered 2 of these recently. Not shipped yet tho...

Do not torch your wire--just wash it with soap and water and dry. Or use alcohol to clean the impurities left over after the manufacturing process. The advice (still often given) to torch the wire before building is old and wrong. Disregard.
True, yet until recently I was still tweezing and torching after building the contact (micro) coil, 'till I realized it was an unnecessary step, since I can fire and pinch after it's installed.

Welcome my fellow NY'ER. Do yourself a huge favor. If this is your first time building.Buy an easy build deck to start with. The Kanger Subtank or even beter Top tank with the RBA .Being a relatively new vapor I can tell you this thing for me made the learning curve so much easier. The wires are easy to capture and fragile coils easier to place.Wicking is straight forward.Even though this tank is not really for tootle puffers it is a great way to get your feet wet and understand the way these things work.I certainly wouldn't have wanted this KM3 tank to be my first rebuildable ever. Authentic or clone.I am in the process of making a small review of this tank right now. There are also some great people right here with a wealth of knowledge and experience. They apparently like helping others.:D

For Rayon giving you that taste, before you install the tank part on. Fire your coil after it's saturated for couple second while blowing on the coil. Do that couple times and the taste should be gone.
I do most times and it does help but again, it's not really that bad so it's never bothered me.

I still torch my wire just to get them clean. Don't know who or what touched them last...
