Attack of the (Kayfun V5) Clones!

Quick question before I strip mine down for a squiz

Latest coil is showing as .56 ohms, 5 wraps 28g Kanthal, 2.5mm ID with my usual wicking method (cotton) which is medium to loose through the coil, and tails just touching the deck.
Pushing 15 watts which gives me a nice warm tasty vape.

It's starting going "snap crackle and pop" like a bowl of rice bubbles a few hours ago and it's becoming a bit annoying. The S,C+P continues nearly the whole way through the draw. (AFC pip 1, JFC 2 turns, MTL long slow draw)

I've encountered the occasional "POP" in the past but never to the extent this build is giving me, and it's got me scratching my head as to why it's happening.

Can any of you experienced blokes/blokettes give me some advice as to what causes this ploise?

That usually happens when there is a gap between the coil and the cotton. Condensation from the vapor (the h2o part) gets trapped under it and causes the "pop". Try stuffing it a little more. Seems to work for me. The chamber is very small so the sound is very amplified in the Kayfun. A light "shuttle" crackle is normal.

For a .5ohm coil you need to go with higher watts. Raise it .5 at a time til the SNP stops. Juice isn't vaporizing, it's just sitting in the wick & not getting hot enough to vaporize. There's a reason subohmer's use higher watts. Lower ohms use high watts. If you want to use less wattage you need to go higher ohms.

Was just about to re-wick but am trying this first. Seems to be a little better. Up to 17 watts so far. Thanks

When I do my next wick I'll definitely stuff it a bit tighter.

Yep I usually only hear that light "shuttle" crackle sound, which never bothers me.
Seems like I may have botched the current wick.
Thicker wick next time

Just re-wicked using a thicker roll of cotton through the coil.

Needed to readjust my coil height a little too as it was a bit too close to the air chimney (is that the right name?), and the coil spacings were a little off.

Still running the new wick in but it's quickly loosing the wet flannelette taste (yuk)

Running at 17 watts right now, but will bump that up gradually to find the perfect setting.

Still get a cuppla small "pops" at the start of a puff, but then it settles into the nice mild "shuttle" crackle that Cosmic_Glaze mentioned.

You use rayon in RTAS? Took a quick look at the site. I can understand how it might work well in an RDA, but in a tank will those "thin"wicks hold the juice back from flooding and keep a vacuum going?

I use rayon in my kayfun and rdas. It works really well. I stuff with 1.5 times more rayon than cotton I would use in the kayfun. Trim off about 50% and stuff the wick into the channel. No leaking. Last longer. Taste better. YMMV.

What he said. Stuff your coil with a thick piece of wick, move it back and forth a couple times, and listen for it to make a squeaky sound. Once you get it to squeak you know you have it in just right the place.

I had a scary thing happen today, I was on top of the pipe rack on my truck that is about 9 or 10 ft from the pavement when my Istick30 topped with one of my Kayfun 5's from Tobeco fell out of my jacket pocket and hit the pavement so hard that I thought the tank and mod were toast. Nope both are like nothing happened, and that's without a vape band.

I have a MTL plug in all my V5's and a couple of Merlins to boot. I could not use em without it. I like a very tight draw so much so that I actually put a dab of JB Weld in the base of the plug and run a .75ish mm needle through it. As to flavor, although a subjective thing, Ive found the flavor superior with the plug in. As always, YMMV.

Is the barrel tank that KF4 looking tank someone posted in here awhile back? I was wondering what the heck that was..

On an unrelated note, Ive been lurking in the Merlin thread the last couple of weeks.. Still haven't bit yet, but edging closer and closer.. The KF5 is so perfect its kept me at bay for now.

Yes the barrel tank is like the KF V4. It increases capacity to 6Ml. Available in the usa from origin vape. I have two merlins but they are retired after discovering the KF V5. Loved my merlins but these Kayfun's are in a different league.

LOL i have been on the waiting list for notification when they came back in stock for ages.They finally did so i have a barrel tank on it's way,along with the MTL kit.

I only have the Tobeco's and one SXK. Not got a SJMY yet. I am sure it should be fine.
