300 charge cycles is the average for a li ion battery. You can do the math to figure the rest out. Of course this all depends on how hard one is on the battery as well.

Over discharging lithium drastically shortens the life - most commercially produced units have a low battery warning LED.

Forever? Beyond batteries there is mechanical wear and tear. For most mods 510 connector is a weak piece (if it do not have a stainless steel threads). Next - buttons.

For me, if a mod cost me less than 5 cents a day, it is good mod. So, if cost of a mod is $25 and it lasts for 500 days (17 months, 1.4 year), it is a good mod. Mod for $250 should work for at least 170 months (14 years) to be a good one. I think a cheaper one has better chances.

I dunno, I have provaris here 3 years old still work as flawlessly as the day I opened the box, and still repairable should they die.

I have mechs just as old or older same way.
To me that kind of reliability is priceless
But we all see value differently

My mech will have to have a switch replacement every 45,000 years. Magnetic switch.

Otherwise, it should last forever...

My Eleaf I doubt I'll get more than 2 years out of it. But that is 30 bucks a year. I usually end up getting something new every couple months because I'm a tech ......

I have a vamo, 1 year old, still work as flawlessly as the day I opened the box. And it is 5.5 times cheaper. And better for me (3 buttons against 1 button, but I know, it is just my preference).

But now mech mods are conceptually outdated. Good for hobbyists, not for mainstream vapers.

I am not trying to trash any devices, I am just saying that there is not sense in buying expensive stuff hoping for longevity. In terms of vaping costs cheap device can easily outperform expensive one.

I wold suggest having at least one quality mod (probably a mechanical) just in case Hell freezes over, and we are not allowed to buy vapin products anymore.

Really? hmm mainstream vapors seem to really be digging the ego one, works just like a mech with a fixed battery

I also have a vamo, actually the bamboo or very first vamo, works fine. If it dies tomorrow how do i fix it? My provari will be back in about 10 days with a brand new board

Good idea, and I toyed with it for a while, but decided it is not for me. I started with a regulated and I am afraid I'll hate the inconvenience of a mechanical.
I have two vamos from the beginning, one always in use for almost a year the other one practically new. I can wear them off and then, if needed, I can combine two not working vamos in one working. Recently I bought two box mod. One is iStick, will not last for a long time, but if Hell freezes it will be a good time to replace a battery in iStick. Also I've bought a spare 510 connector and two heat sinks which should save 510 connectors (as I understand for box mods it is the weakest piece).

I would expect the 510 connection to be the weakest link of any device sans the electronics. I do have a mechanical for just this reason. A 15 buck el cheapo nemy clone from China. I have put in the magnet upgrade and pin upgrades from Fat Daddy and bought a kick for it, around 40 bucks total. It just works when you want it to.

Hell won't freeze until you and I are gone from this world and by then who the heck knows how the next person will be getting their nicotine fix. Heck, Taco Bell will probably be selling it.

The 510 I had problems with was the connector salvaged from a scrap cig-alike battery to put on my DIY mod, but I'm not arguing that the 510 is flawless overall - its pretty weak compared to the ego.

    Simple math:
If you have 10 mods, they will last ten times as long. :)

This is the math I use. I have enough mods to last a long time and order new stuff all the time. The only items I have broken are a couple of cheap ego type's that I stripped the threading on. Both were replaced for free by the vendor. I am pretty sure most of my mods will last longer than my willpower to not by new mods.

I've got a Provari and a Silver Bullet mech I've had for over 3 years and still using them on a daily basis. I used to work for a vape shop and never found anything better than these two. And since Provape and AltSmoke service their product for life, I know in the rare occurance should one break, I can return it and get it back good as new.

IMO, buying a Provari, Silver Bullet, or a Reo (personally not fond of bottom feeders) is a lifetime investment for something that only costs $100 - $150 dollars.

I've got less expensive mods in my dresser drawer which either broke or stopped working after 2 - 6 months. I quickly got tired of replacing them every 2 - 6 months and learned my lesson. I guess it all depends upon how you want to spend your money.

I have a MVP2 that is still going strong after a year's worth of nearly daily use. My wife wanted it, so we tore off my wrap and got one she liked. Threading is a bit loose now, but it still every time. I've got about 10 eGo sticks that still work, but I no longer use them.

As for Mech Tubes...the weakest link is the 510, but mine are strong, with the exception of a Stingray clone I have. It's loose. I don't see my mechs having issues, because of the material they are made of, which is SS, copper or brass. I don't buy anything with aluminum threads, because the threads are so weak. I have one mech box mod that has a Fatdaddies 510 with spring loaded center, that is bullet proof...so to speak.

My regulated devices are different. I expect the electronics to eventually go out. And that is why I have mechs in my collection.
