I just had to laugh when I downloaded this app to my phone. It said it turns the phone into a barcode reader and I thought, "no way". To my delight it actually works so, of course, I'm going around the house and reading the barcode on things. It then shows product and web info, lists web retailers, prices, etc.

There is another app called SHOPSAVVY that says "...scan the barcode of any product to find the lowest prices both on the web and from local retailers. The latest upgrade includes in-stock status, supplies more products and prices, and finds low prices faster."

Now this is something that I might actually use. You know when you're in a store and see something you want to get but have no idea if it's a good price or not? Well, now I can search the web to compare in moments.

shop Savvy is great! I use it all the time.

It's on the iPhone, too.

I'm just tooo impressed, tell me more. Does it give you the "retail" price for strictly online prices? Just curious how it would have all the prices from retailers (to compare prices), surely its just online prices.

Welcome to the 21st Century..what will they come up with next!!

Yep, it uses the camera. On my phone it comes up with the screen of what my camera see with a lighter area in the middle and a red line through it. I put the barcode in the square and it will focus in and out until it can read it. It captures it, beeps, and comes up the option to press Product Search or Web Search.

I just installed ShopSavvy too.

I don't know enough yet to know what prices it shows. I scanned a copier paper box and it came up with Staples and the price of it. ShopSavvy might have more price comparison data.
