Thank you for the interesting ideas carrielsal! You've sent me down quite a rabbit hold with that thread and the videos, but those coils are beautiful! At the end of the day I still think I'll opt for more of a traditional next step to making coils as this seems more like running before I can walk. But I wonder if I can think of a simple way to apply some more tension than I do now, but still using my regular screwdriver and hands method? Maybe I can hold one end of the wire with some pliers and hold the spool taught the way the guy does in the video? Plus the wire I have is thin 32g and I think a small amount of tension may snap it. Well, nothing to lose by trying except a bit of wire!!
