You are probably good for a decade or more, even if you give away some to friends! My 40ft box has lasted somewhere between 2 and 3 years and still has more than enough to see 2020 hit in January.

I get about 2 or 3 wicks from a piece of the coil about 2 1/2" long after splitting it lengthwise.
Actually I just pulled a long strip out of my box to make some wicks and it doesn't say 500ft (not sure why I thought that) it only has weight, which is 3 or 3.5 lbs (it was yesterday and cant remember if it was 3 or 3.5 pounds. So I dont know if that's a big box or not, but it did come with a big plastic bag inside

The 3 pound box is in a class of its own. I don't think anyone has yet been able to pull it all out to measure the full length.

I am sticking to rayon. It was hard enough to learn ONE style of wicking. Also, I have NEVER wicked an atomizer with cotton where it didn't leak. Oh, that may have just been inexperience but I look at all my cotton and just think "Why bother."

Anna

The chief factor to keep in mind is that Cotton swells and Rayon shrinks once saturated with juice. Dry Cotton should fill the coil and slide easily back and forth. Rayon should be snug, but not enough to bend the coil legs when you pull it back and forth. At least that's worked well for me.

Too little wicking and you get hot spots. Too much and you strangle the wicking and get dry hits.

3 lb is the big box (a lot taller than it's wide). The 40ft box is more of a cube shape. Both the ones I've seen have either 40 ft or 3 pounds on the bottom right corner of the box.

I have to think my 3lb box is more than 40ft long, but I dont know for sure. I usually cut off enough to make about 25 wicks in one shot, which is about 2ft long. Thats usually enough wicks for both my wife and I for 3 months, so in a year that's 8ft long rope. I have been using for 5 years and 1 month exactly, plus I have given out perhaps 6 ft to various people throughout the years and by the looks of it, im not even half way done with the box.

Yeah, the 40ft box is a cube about 6" High x 4.5" wide. I have a new one in the cabinet waiting for me to use the last of my first box. I get two to three years of wicking from one of those.
