Aye, too much wicking and those wells get choked. Also if the wicking is too tight through the coil, the wicking ends up getting toasted easily.

Try a little less Rayon @stols001, just enough to have slight resistance when you pull it through the coil. You shouldn't have to force it, just coax it. About half a 5cm or 1" length of Rayon split in roughly in half seems good.

When you have got about the Goldilocks amount of wicking you won't need to thin at all, just fluff and comb a little to get rid of the straggly bits and encourage juice or liquid flow. Then when all that's been done can you trim your wick, bowtie method and follow the curve of the base.

Then push down in the wells and jostle the wicking round a little to help it take up the space and make sure that it's not compacted in there, the tousled look helps it suck that juice or liquid up.

I must have rewicked mine at least 50 times, here's my latest 2.5mm ID SS316L TC capable build.
