Hi Guys:

I'm hoping someone can help: theres something wrong with my new black 78mm battery.

When I hold it perpendicular to the ground, LED up, it ignites: the LED lights up and the carto sizzles.

When I hold it perpendicular to the ground, LED down, it shuts off.

Rotating it LED up then LED down is like an on/off switch. Gravity is my on/off switch. When I turn it slowly it does not do this. When I remove the carto it still fires up when perpendicular, LED pointing up and shuts off when i point the LED down.

How did i find this out? I went out for a vape, put it in my pocket, and the thing burned my leg after i went back to my office and put my feet on my desk. (LED was pointing up.)

Do I have an incredibly sensitive battery? Can I RMA it?

Thanks

Agreed, definitely get it replaced ASAP. I don't know what RMA means. It should only be sensitive to airflow, not motion or position. That's not safe. Hopefully you still have the packing list it came with, return to that address then send an email letting them know it is coming and why. There are no black 78mms available as of today, but maybe by the time it gets to them they'll be in stock again.

Aye, the LED lights up even when a carto is not attached. I suspect it sends power to the carto socket when the carto is not attached, but since the circuit is broken it will not arc. However, since it is a potential fire hazard i will make sure the battery is fully drained until I put it in the mail. Imagine what would happen if it ended up next to a parcel of fireworks or something equally dangerous!!

:danger:

I hope it wasnt juice inside that caused it. I have read up on the issue and juice tends to lock the switch in place because it is sticky. In this case the switch turns on and off by merely rotating the device on its long axis (gravity) which tells me it is not stuck in place. IMHO the opposite has happened - the switch is so smooth that gravity affects it.

I ordered it from a company here in Canada. I'll see what they have to say about sending it to them vs back to bloog...

The switch is supposed to be an acoustic switch, not mechanical

Well that blows my theory out of the water ...

Leaford, when you talk to your engineer please pass on my thanks for this device. Thank You to you as well, Leaford.

It is of excellent quality, and i honestly believe it saved my life. (Pack a day for 20 years = doom)

Well, I showed the video to our engineer and a couple other guys, and we kicked around ideas. One possibility is that the switch is bad and is activating far too sensitively, as evidenced by the switch activating only when you rotated it fast enough. But, bearing in mind that it still wasn't moving very fast so there couldn't have been much airflow at all, we're thinking it's gravity based. A broken piece of wiring or solder or a loose drop of liquid or something moving into and out of position, forming and breaking a circuit. IOW, either user damage or assembly error. We'll err on the safe side and take it back. As if that were ever in question. ;)
