Boiling Cartos

I boiled my used carts for the first time two days ago. Have a bit of trouble blowing some of them out dry. I blew and blew, then let them sit overnight. Some are still blowing out more water no matter how many times I blow into them.

Any tips for drying? Poured some alcohol in to help, is regular alcohol a no-no? (Not wanting to use my Grey Goose.......) Guess I should get some PGA if I go out today.

Also, tried filling a few that I thought were dry, and the juice just ran thru, wouldn't hold in the cart, maybe the batting was too far gone to reuse?

By regular alcohol, what do you mean? Isopropyl alcohol is a BIG NO-NO! You don't want to put anything in the cartos that you wouldn't want to ingest. If you did that, you might be able to wash them out very good... If it was me, I'd chunk them on the off chance there'd still be some left in there after a refill.

I have seen another brand call Gem Clear. Simply stop by any liquor store and ask for Grain Alcohol. It is 190 proof (95%) alcohol. Watch out, it is very flammable.

That's what I use my left over zippo lighter fluid for. It does a number on adhesives and evaporates quickly.

What is the point of boiling? Or Everclear for that matter?

I do this to clean out flavors I don't like. I will simply refill with juice I enjoy. Some do it after a few refills. I do not know if it helps the carts perform better or not. I have not done that yet to test.

marykay, the other reason i use boiling water instead of just hot is that they dry sooo much better. and damp cartos always taste off to me, they have to dry completely.

Another source of Everclear is to go to the liquor store and ask for Golden Grain. It is 190 proof grain alcohol. We made hunch punch with it in the bathtub in my younger days.

Do not boil the white end caps. I ruined about 30 of them. I have not found a substitute for a white end cap and have 30 carts sitting and waiting for a refill. Perhaps a condom with a hole may work, but I hope someone else has a better idea.

I find empty blank cartridge these work really well as a substitute for the white end caps. It's a pain to switch them around from cart to cart, but using them is a treat.

i guess i'll keep saving them. it never occurred to me not to pop them out before washing the carts, just habit.

If you need something to take the glue off after you take the label off use WD 40. spray it on then wipe it off with a Qtip. just make sure you put your fingers over the top and bottom so you dont get WD 40 inside the carto. Then after the glue is all off just wash the outside with some soap and water to get the WD40 off. yeh the cartos look great nice and chrome shiny. Happy Vaping

I have some non v4l cartz that I stuck in the freezer for a few hours and the labels peeled right off. Not sure how the freezer method would work on the V4L carto lables but its worth a try for those who really want to take them off without using chemicals.

Since I started vaping, I have been tossing spent cartos and just buying more blanks. However, lately I figured I would try this cleaning and re-using. So I got my cartos boiling, and I am hovering over the steaming pot and inhaling. Vapor is vapor....right? Waste not want not...and it smells good. So I figure I might as well push it. I slice up some carrots and parsely...sprinkle salt and pepper....and drop in three bouillon cubes (chicken flavor). Cleaning carts and making some soup at the same time. Very tasty and quite the time saver....

I can see someone from this forum doing that. And enjoying ever second of it. I finally boiled and cleaned the unused cappucino VG cartos. The carto soup smelled great til I tossed those in there. But hey, in the end, after some vodka and club soda.

And Darigaaz, I've yet to have a carto die on me, either. I have no idea how many times I've refilled some of them. All was well. I love the chrome on chrome look, too. Thinking of doing this to all my cartos since they last so long. If I can find a good way to label the condoms.

I've really been wanting a flat mouth piece. Since this is my first PV I don't have any lying around. I was even thinking of buying some Ciggarillos (sp?) and taking the mouth piece off of them. Thanks for the link!

So weird... I've poured still boiling water over my end caps and haven't had this prob. I'll have to be more careful from now on 8-o
