Finally finished my Boxer mod. Nice and comfortable to hold in the hand, but my SXM will be the to-go mod. As compact as the boxer is, it ain't pocketable. Fundamentally though, it's the smallest double 18650 mod I've used and makes those Hammond boxes look like giant.
I like the buttons, particularly the lower button that makes resistance locking easier.
The chip inside is obviously great, though I doubt I'll ever use the 120W/150W capability.
Magnetic door works fine and doesn't slide around. Certainly easier to remove batteries than the SXM.
However, it's not perfect:
(1) the designer was obviously obsessed with making the smallest mod possible. However, I think he might have shown some more restraint or used different parts. I particular wasn't fond of the way the battery connects were modified to save a few millimeters in length. It makes for a much more difficult solder connection. Also, it's not as if there aren't other battery connects out there.
(2) I'd prefer a removable top to make installation of the 510 and board much easier.
(3) I'd rather see the case made with a plastic resin or metal. Plastic Nylon ain't sexy and doesn't wear as well.
Finally, some additional build tips. If you use a bit of heat wrap to hold the black wires together, it makes for a much easier solder to the 510 pin. The wires from the SXM are tinned all the way though, so you can cut off more insulation off the white wire to get a better connection with the 510 pin. Finally, the way to bend the battery connects is to take a pair of needle-nose pliers, grip the solder lug above the hole, then press down on the rounded end of the contact.
