I was in my local Wal-Mart today and found the Brew Rite Cleaner intermixed with the Brew Rite Coffee Filters by the coffee makers. Really had to look for it. I decided to pick up a bottle and give it a try.

I mixed up a batch with hot water in an old 15ml glass juice bottle. I've been agitatiing it every hour or so and it has been soaking for 6 hours so far. If I hold the bottle up to the light I can see particles floating around. Will be interesting later this evening when I rinse it out to see what this pieces are.

The atty has been in use for about a week now so there should have been a little crud built up on the coil. I will advise how my experience with the Brew Rite goes. Worse case scenario..... I'll have something to use on the better half's coffee maker.

Well I emptied the old juice bottle and examined the particles. Most appeared to be pieces of green paint over spray from my green colored atty. I did note several brownish tan chunks floating around. Will see how it vapes in the morning after a night of drying.

I also mixed up a new batch of Brew Rite and will try it on a atty that went dead. May or may not resurrect it, but worth a try.

Just put 2 atomizers in brew rite. Im going to let it soak for 3 or 4 hours then rinse will post tommorrow if it works. These are not dead atomizers just 2 that do not perform well anymore.

Brew rite cleaned the atomizers well after a 3 hour soaking then rinse with warm water. Then i let them dry over night. These were not dead atomizers only dirty. They are working almost like new now. I am going to clean another and let it soak for 10 hours this time.

I used it on a newish atomizer (a week) several times, I didn't see any crud after an overnight soak. Well that atomizer died on me last night (10 days old, 8 days of actual relatively heavy use). I soaked it for an hour in brew rite -- nothing, in cola overnight -- nothing. I'm new to this and so far an atomizer a week :(

Welcome to the Club--Adeem!!! You are one of many on the once a week program so do not feel bad------Sun

Guys - I think some of you are expecting miracles that aren't able to happen. If an atty is truly dead, then by definition, it's very likely got an open in the wiring or the coil. No 'magic cleaning' will affect these cases, while it may easily confuse some people reading some of these threads.

If you've got an ohmmeter, use it - if you get infinite resistance, you've got an open, and nothing short of soldering will bring that atty back to life. You can still test cleaning on it, but don't expect it to 'heal itself.' :)

nitewriter--I can tell you I bought it and tested it and it did not remove any of the residue--as for cleaning out a flavor--there was some improvment. But as for cleaning a coil---it was a no go------hope that helps. There is a difference as you know between "cleaning" the atomizer as opposed to preserving one.

So in the preservation state--it was a no-go from my experiments at removing residue on the coil----------hope that helps--Sun

Sun, I know you've been on this like butter on a hot potato. Was the cola method determined to be the best so far for "cleaning" the gunk off?

    Thanks for your help!

Nitwriter--the cola method seems to work for some as the posts come in. I will be posting the Popcorn cleaner results very shortly in the never ending quest for the holy grail. I would not worry about it so much, but I have not found a way to build an atomizer---so saving them at this point is paramount. I hear Steve at Puresmoker's next move may be to put atomizers in production and I hope that happens. In the meantime all I can do is stock up and work on preservation methods-------Sun

I have tried the Brew Rite cleaner and it seems to me that it does clean the "sponge metal" parts like the bridge fairly well. That's probably why it seems to restore a clogged atomizer. I have to agree with Sun that it probably doesn't do anything about the build up on the coil, though. I have 4 or 5 different atomizers that I use in rotation. I clean them every 2 weeks or so by soaking them in Coca-Cola (diet Coke, actually). I leave them in the cola for 2 weeks at a time and it does seem to help. After rinsing the cola out, I soak them in Brew Rite for 30 minutes or so. This seems to get all the "gunk" out of the bridge, etc. Don't leave them in Brew Rite for too long, though, as the sodium carbonate can discolor some metal parts.

Brew Rite is also excellent for cleaning your coffee maker's carafe and brew basket, but in spite of what the label says it's a lousy descaler. For that you need acid, like vinegar or lemon juice.
