So i had my brother and sister in law pretty much talked into switching over to ecigs. I let them try my ego and a couple different flavors and they really liked it, and we just about ready to have me order them a kit. Well they went to the dr a couple days ago and mentioned it to her and she told them "that since ecigs are made in china and have no fda regulations, and because of that the have no idea how bad it is for you that she really trys to talk people out of using them." So she set them up with a presciption for chantex (the suicide pill)

So because of that one conversation with the dr they think that ecigs are completely dangerous and are just as bad for you as the real thing.

On another note, I came home yesterday and seeing as though it has been 113 degrees in the valley I quickly changed clothes and went and jumped in the pool. I noticed with I got out I had my ego/ce4 set up in my pocket. I sat it in the sun for a couple mins, took it apart and dried to connections and it is working perfectly fine.

Sounds like Big Pharma is behind that. I wonder how much of a kickback the Dr got from that Chantix prescription.
It really really hurts my heart to see people who SWORE AN OATH to do no harm take bribes and spread lies and misinformation

You've got that right.
Don't get me started on wanton and willful violations of the Hippocratic Oath for the sake of money

I tried to explain it to them. I tried to get them to come on ecf and do the research themselves but they are the type of people that will listen to what the dr has to say cuz he is the professional and gets paid to give this advice, I tried to tell them that he gets paid once they pay for that chantex persciption.

The worse part is they have already tried chantex, they have tried the patch, they have tried cold turkey, and they have tried to get hypnotized. and nothing has worked.

They told me that they just don't see how the ecig work because they aren't kicking the habit at all, they are still "smoking" and still getting the nic. I tried to tell them that they could make the switch and get off the other 4000 chems that are in stinkies, then they could work on lowing the nic and once they are happy with that then they could break the habit pretty easy. But I'm not a Professional so I know nothing. lol. Oh well to each their own. I hope the pill actually works for them

Here's a HUGE pat on the back for all you've tried to do for your family, sco! Unfortunately, if they're not willing to at least consider your direct experience along with the other advice, there's not much else you can do, except keep vaping and let your improved life and health be a constant reminder to them that the option is always available.

My doctor suggested e-cigs as a good option. She said Chantix is only for a small group of people who have no risk factors for depression or anxiety. She said if you have or have had those things, you should NOT go on Chantix, it's too dangerous.

She told me that nicotine is no worse for you medically than caffeine. It's the delivery system in tobacco cigs that will kill you. So she says if you vape and don't smoke, medically speaking you're a non-smoker.

My oral surgeon told me the exact same thing, and recommended e-cigs as well. And he was the one who removed the cancer from my tongue.

Please have them read this:
New study says Chantix raises suicide risks | Reuters
"We found that Chantix is associated with more suicidal behavior reports than any other smoking-cessation drug on the U.S. market. The risks simply outweigh the benefits," Furberg said

Is it really smarter to take something KNOWN to BE DEADLY than to try something NOT proven harmful at this time?

Tell them, from me, I'd rather see them try cold turkey than accept the word of a Dr. with NO KNOWLEDGE on the topic.
Best of luck and keep an eye on them for their safety.

Congrats for all your efforts trying to convert them.

In matters such as this, you / we are up against:
1.) Some doctors that get their palms greased (get paid) by Big Pharma for writing prescriptions.
2.) Decades of being 'conditioned' by various medical associations, big pharma, and doctors themselves to believe that doctors are always right, infallible, and 'god'.
3.) Some people that will believe their doctors and not ever question them
4.) Big Pharma with much invested in 'quit-smoking' products and 'medicines'

I'm certainly not knocking doctors, as I happen to like mine, need them on occasion, and wish I had become one, as it seems like a license to print money in many cases. However, I am long over (and time for everyone to get over) the absolute infallibility thing. Doctors are people too, and don't know everything.

It is a myth that DR's get paid to prescribe .. although there have been cases of drug companies attempting to pay .. Your local family doc is not being paid to prescribe certain drugs, and contrary to what many posters here seem to think, doctors really do try to choose the best treatment for each patient. They will use generics as often as possible, and the actual drug chosen often depends as much on the insurance company formulary as the physician's choice. The doctors I know are acutely attuned to the economic pressures patients are facing and do the best they can to minimize costs, including offering samples, coupons, manufacturers' assistance info, spending massive hours of clerical time to get meds authorized with insurance companies, and writing prescriptions for tablets that can be divided with a pill splitter to cut costs.

Some people, like me, pay professionals to give their professional opinion. Others pay professionals to tell them what to do. Until the others run into a doctor who is an obvious quack they will never learn.

I'm lucky. For the first time in my life I like my whole medical team from dentist to doctor to specialists. If they don't know something they take the time to study it before my next visit.
