I want to convert my FT hana clone case to magnets. I've got 3mm cylindrical magnets (1.5mm depth) but still not quite sure how to use them to make a magnet lit. My main concern is that the magnets don't have "play" sideways so that the lid can't move to the left and right when closed. So there needs to be some kind of "pin" that fits with the drilled out screw hole so there is no play.

I could sink the magets into the drilled out hole and glue a magnetic steel screw to the lid, but the outer diameter of an M3 scew is slightly below 3mm. Also I only have stainless steel non magnetic screws.

Or I could glue a 3mm magnet into the drilled out lid and glue another magnet in the case. But they would need to be placed so that they at least partially go into the hole.

I also have 6mm cylindrical magnets but I think these are too big to use with the FT hana case.

    Any suggestions?

got my dna 40d built monday using the FT hana enclosure and Sanjosse's screen cradle every thing went great and very thankful for the cradle i did have to snip off one of the board nubs cause the dna 40 has wires all along the end and the dna 20-30s had them on the sides but it was no problem

Waiting for my DNA40. It should be here Friday or Sat. But I almost have everything ready to go...wires all tin'd, switches soldered, just need to drill out the 510 hole for a FD and clean off some of the anodizing. But once I get the board(s) it'll be a quick build...I hope.

Did you secure the screen cradle somehow or do the wires and board help to keep it in place? If I lay the screen cradle in place it appears to have a propensity to slide around a bit. I was thinking some double stick tape on the sides.

    TruckinMan,

My prototype is scheduled to ship this Thursday, so I should receive it by this coming Monday. I'll then dry-fit it, and make any needed adjustments. So the earliest I could open it up would be the next Tuesday.

I hope that it's not too much of a wait for those that are interest :)

Very cool, I definitely will be picking up a few, Thanks! The good thing is I can add in the charging board at any time after my builds complete.

On another note, fatdaddy has a V4 510 with interchangeable juice well's.

dougward1960, could you do me a favor and post some pics, I'd like to see what you mean by, "snip off one of the board nubs". It would help me understand what I might need to do to create a better cradle for the DNA40 :)

moresalt, I hope you don't mind me responding, but on mine, I found that the wiring did help keep it in place. I also noticed after I wired it up, it did have the propensity to not sit all the way down in the bay. I was thinking about dabbing some CA glue down along the nubs to keep it down in there :)

i dont have a good enough camera to take pics with but its the single nub on the end that holds the board in place. if you look at the diagram of the pin layout you will see the 40 boards have the wires on that end and not on the sides like the 20-30. maybe i can get my son to take some pics tonight. i didnt glue or attach screen cradle yet but im going to have to. i was in a bit of a hurry to use it so now after a few days use i can go back and fix it more permanently in place. oh works great but ni200 takes a few tries to get it right

I sniped off the same nub on sanjosse's cradle for my dna40 build. I have everything but the FT enclosure, but it left San Francisco yesterday so maybe I'll have it by the weekend.

dougward1960 and BlueFlyingV, thank you both for your feedback. I've redesigned the cradle by omitting the center nub and replacing it with 2 corner nubs. Please let me know what you think. If you think it'll work, I'll post a new DNA40 version :)

that is exactly what i was going to suggest you could do for the 40 board awesome your on it. my son didnt come over the other night but i think even without pics you have figured out why i cut the center nub off

    Hey, Sanjosse,

Completely off topic and all, but will your cradle fit in a hana mini clone?

Not if you want to keep the mounting rails on - I had to mill out the sides of a clouper enclosure (I'm guessing they are the same dimensions as the Fasttech) to get the board to fit in.

Doing mine a bit different as I don't want to use any hot glue - I don't have a 3d printer, but I do have a Bridgeport : ) Have to mill out the divider between the battery compartment and the electronics compartment, then I can slide my carrier over to keep the switches in place (going to have to build up a couple of little spacers for that - came up with the idea after I already milled out material in the region  )

Going to keep everything in place with 2-56 screws by drilling and tapping the enclosure, then screwing the carriers (battery and electronics) in place. Using a piece cut out from a CD case for the screen protector. 0-80 socket cap crews are used through the mounting holes to keep the board in place (didn't quite get the width/centering right... but it's good enough)

What I have so far in case someone wants to copy this method :D

On a related note - is anyone actually using 18 gauge wire for the connections on a DNA40? I can barely get the wire in there after stripping, much less after tinning...

I like what your soung, I'm mm planning on doing the same I b have a few cloupor 30s and I'm planning on throwing the dna40 in there as well. I don't have the cases yet so I could be way off but I want to throw a bottle in there and make a bottom feeder out of it. What do you think about that? Do you think there is any room in there?

    In the FT hana enclosures?

Basically ZERO chance, with chip/wiring/everything installed there is virtually no empty area in the box.

Maybe if you tape the bottle to the side of the case :p
