CNC mill would be perfect. My drill press has a laser center guide but I still had to eyeball it to get it perfect. I think the vise holding the box wasn't tight enough. I didn't want to crush the box so I didn't tighten it too much and it might have moved a bit on the initial bite when the drill came down.

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out though. The ground soldered to the brass nut makes the ohm reading accurate and more solid than a screw tapped into the case. I might do the same with the other boxes.

My shipping date was pushed back a day to the 6th, paid on the 20th. You can't ship batteries thru China Post. I chose Singapore Post too. Hope I get it before the end of the year.

I ordered a Hana clone from FT on 11/22 (first order from them), what does the ETA mean? I know what it stands for, but is that when they are saying I should get it?

I think it's the date that they get it to ship out to you. ETA on the mini I ordered is the 6th and that's when they're shipping it out to me.

FT split up my order to 3 packages. I ordered 5 atomizer stands that was just an add-on item shipped a couple of days ago. The Hana mini clone and puzzle drip tip kit was pushed back to the 11th but the Hana shipped yesterday and I'm still waiting on the drip tip. The first 2 packages require signatures. How annoying.

Personally, I'm ready to slash my wrists :(

I just checked and:

Ordered on the 19th November, shipped through Singapore Post on the 20th November.

Last status update: 26th November - package in transit to Portugal

It's the 10th and it hasn't arrived to Lisbon yet... I'm not even going to mention the possible customs inspection and shipping to the south...

I doubt I'll get it in 2014

arrrggg :(

Hi all

Not sure this is the right section so if it's not, I would appreciate a mod to move this thread to where it should be.

I want to build a mini hana style box mod with a dna 40 board in it and powered by a replaceable 18650 (vtc4, vtc5 and torchy batteries).

After some studying, I came to the conclusion that my best bet would be to get a mini hana clone, strip it from its internals, put good metal switches, a good spring loaded 510 connector base and obviously the dna 40 chip and charging board.

The 18650 is going to be a problem so I checked several sources of clones and I decided to get one that is 72mm high and doesn't have the seam running across the top. This should give me a good working base.

Now my first problem:

I placed an order with FT for a black mini hana clone (estimated shipment in 10) but the truth is I'm not a big fan of anodized black. My sweat is rather acidic and from previous experiences, the only thing that stays the same after months of use is stainless steel... I manage to melt, chip, scratch or ruin anything anodized or painted after heavy use.

I've been surfing the net and I came up with this picture:

It looks like raw polished aluminium? That would be ideal for my sweaty hands.

Where can I get a case or mod like that? I'm still in time to cancel my order and get it from somewhere else.

If someone has a suggestion, I would appreciate it very much

Thx

Mine shipped a couple of days ago (ordered 11/20!!!) and I also have plans to put a 18650 as well as a DNA 40.
I will eventually probably need to replace the chip but, not sure yet. either a dna40 or an SX chip... I have a IPV mini coming and am looking forward to seeing how the SX130 chip is :) 30 watts is fine for me in a box mod as I only use RTA's. if I go super sub I use my mechs ;)

21 is too much. The one I'm planning is either the small metal one that is stock on the original hana or one I have under my eye that's 12mm/16mm with an extremely short travel (0.3mm) and chamfered inner edge so it doesn't become uncomfortable. Only time will tell. My ft mod was shipped the 20th but no sign of the package yet.

Well until I don't have the mod in my hands I can't do much. :(

I'm planning to use a proxxon press drill stand to try to mill the battery slot a little more professionally but I don't have much hopes on that.

I'll post a step by step tutorial when I finally get everything together.

Oh and I'm on the waiting list for the "latest" dna 40 revision. Should come in Stock in 3 - 8 weeks

The key word here is "roughly". We are talking about a mod that wasn't intended to Use 18650 batteries so every mm counts. A standard 18650 has at least 65.0mm but it's common for some brands having 66mm or more.

The DIY case is 68mm, that gives you in best case scenario 1.5mm walls and no room for a positive contact plate. It's too risky trying to do something out of it.

The pre-built mini however is 72mm so you have 7mm to split between the wall widths and a positive plate. It's still hard but doable.

To save some cash you can order the 30w version instead of the 50w one if you're planing not to use the clone chip (I'll be putting a dna 40 in it)

Tony

EDIT: both boxes you're linking are minis. The stock box is 88mm high.... That's 1.6cm more than the 72mm version which is a lot in you hand (half inch) and the minis are narrower too. The evolv board only fits at an angle on the minis.... The price of beauty I guess :)
