The wife left me alone this morning, in a empty house. So I went out into the shop to play. Thinking about this DIY kit. I found an old Stanwell pipe that was in the nail drawer out here in the shop. Not sure where it come from, has been in there for years. I would call it a small pipe. So the new battery holder will just fit in it with the wires running up the sides. There will be an o-ring at the bottom of the battery holder and a backing plate. The o-ring I have on there is to big but, you can see were it goes. As you tighten the screw inside the battery holder, it will smash the o-ring causing it to expand. This is what will hold the battery holder in the pipe bowl. The screw in the bottom of the holder will also be used as a contact point for the positive side of the battery. There will be a spring down there too. There is a lip on the battery holder that will sit on the top of the bowl to cover the hole. This way the DIYer can carve out the bowl with whatever to fit in the battery holder. The o-ring will take up any miss fit and the lip will dress up the top of the bowl. The top cap will be in two pieces. The first will be a locking ring that will tie down the wires and make the connections. I have some ideas on how that is going to work. The second part of the cap will be the push button and how you get to the battery to change it. I took some pics for scale. Not going to be able to work on it again until next week. This is just a proto-type for fit. If it works out, I'll make a mold and have it made out of plastic. Alum won't work. That's all I got.:D

You know...Machinist,

I just thought, your pipe has the ability to accept different stems you make. duhh. All you would have to do is mold a longer versions of that stem you currently have.

That would be nice.

Hey, Any news on the DIY insert mold?

I've been checking this thread everyday like a kid with a new book...lol

Thanks man

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Been over at the new, all pipe forum. The DIY kit is on hold for now. I have a thread over on the new forum and that is where you will see the updates when I get back to it. Yes there's plans to make a long stem pipe, along with different bowl designs. Many plans as the company grows.:D

I tried to do a quick search and couldn't find which new forum he's talking about, anyone else know?

That's really close to what I want to do, just need to make it an automatic, if at all possible. I don't give a rip about LEDs, unless it's as a charge indicator. Not necessarily thinking 'tank' type, but smaller, like a refillable e-cig cartomizer with a wick, which would also reduce the need to replace the switch. It would probably need a double-coil, for the vape to feel more like pipe-smoke, so a decent battery in the bowl works. Can I either get a list of parts/costs/sources, or order a kit from you, or something?

Already gathering the stuff to brew my own flavored VG, from pipe-tobacco, for my future pipe, while trying to get the stuff to refill my cheap-o ecigs.

Newbie to vaping, but been smoking cigs and pipes for around 45 years, so I'm not the typical e-cig kid... I KNOW what I want and am trying to get it all figured out, get it all together and all... I need automatic, due to not having full-time use of my smoking hand and arm. Have had a few strokes and related mini-strokes. Moving to e-cigs and e-pipe is, initially, a convenience move, but also for not passing on second-hand-smoke, to my brand new grandson.
