Since California is 2/3 Democrat, I think this thread is a not-unreasonable place to point to my petition in the "petitions" forum on ECF.

This was written specifically to influence Democrats, and I'll be giving it AT LEAST to the National, California, and Santa Clara County Democratic headquarters when I have a lot of sigs. This is designed to be liberal-to-liberal communications. I figure we each know how to talk to "our own" and encourage folks in other areas to tailor letters to political strategists that they understand.

Knowing how to talk to our own... using the word "anti-choice" ... that should hit them squarely on the noggin! Nice job. I signed.

What do you expect from the land of Fruits & Nuts? JMHO

Cheers,

Hey, Colorado had similar bills very recently, I'm not up on what happened to them, but I suggest you keep an eye out. Banning online purchases was a feature at one point, same as us. As far as I can tell, ANY state that wants to end one kind of prohibition gets withdrawal symptoms and needs to look for a new way to feed the dopamine levels that come from self-righteous congratulations and looking down their noses at someone. Vapers are being setup to replace other pariahs.

CA has a legislature page where you can sign up for alerts, maybe Colorado does too. (Mom's family is from there so I pay more attention to Colorado news items than most out-of-staters.)

We have a similar bill going through our legislature in Utah. Here, there is a bigger discussion about how the states are losing tax revenue due to online sales in general (because only in-state online sales are taxed). States don't lose any tax revenue by banning online sales, that's why they're so willing to do it. Dopamine levels indeed.

That is just crazy..What are they going to do put these is the same category as {OTHER STUFF} ..LOL
OH WAIT, OBAMA DID MAKE CLOVE CIGS AGAINST THE LAW TO SELL..ON MY BIRTHDAY none the less, and that was all I smoked..GRRRR

I have a friend who buys Djarums online. It seems that if you wrap them in tobacco leaves instead of paper, they are classified as cigars which are exempt from the clove rule.

Yes, BUT. Since they haven't taxed them as tobacco yet (with a couple of exceptions) one way to fight back is to DECLARE your online ecig purchases and pay the sales taxes and be able to say so. (Yeah, I know that's not enough but it's a start. About $50 for me for 2012.)

I wonder what Amazon (which DOES collect CA state taxes) charges to process payments through them? What about other paymnt services?

I like what is being said here. Even though I am a lifelong registered Republican who has never voted for a Democrat, I am tempted to sign it anyway... but will respect the approach you're taking, which I think makes a lot of sense.

Anything we can do to sway opinion so that laws like AB1500 aren't even considered is helpful.

Nice job...

So, who else is "your own" ? I've seen medical people and cops testify against us. If you have ANY friends or family in those areas, see if you can get something going in Public Safety or Medical Associations. Got a construction job? e-cigs don't start fires on-site. Outdoors enthusiasts? No fire danger there either, AND no butts. There are a lot of "my own" opportunities for a lot of folks.

Unfortunately, I'm not very politically connected.... I'm just an IT manager with no real contacts in the political space.

But, food for thought... I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for an opportunity when it arises.

Same here. I only went lobbying because of CASAA calls-to-action. But, how does your doctor feel about you? Is HE/SHE connected to anything? A hospital, an organization? 'Cause they are all messing up too. (My Dr. is mostly-active in Armenian causes, so I didn't ask her to do something....and there's a lot of family history there I don't want to impose upon.)

It's even worse here in Utah... fruits, nuts, and democrats don't seem to have much to do with it. Just an extreme position by control freaks of any political persuasion it seems :(
I suspect that being a control freak is almost an intrinsic characteristic in anyone who is willing to run for political office, no matter their party affiliation or professed political philosophy. Think about it for a minute, what's the appeal of being an elected official? It certainly isn't the huge salaries that they earn. Nope, the appeal is simple: Power. And what, in the end, is power? The ability to control others.

Some professions attract the very traits that make them unsuitable for the job. See also: law enforcement, bullies.

I imagine there are plenty of people who get into politics with a desire to do something good.
I think the problem is that they quickly find out that politics isn't that simple.

In the end, they will be faced with a choice and will either have to sacrifice their principles, or get out of the game.
The higher up the political ladder they get, the further behind they have to leave their principles.

What you're left with at the top is people who are in it for the wrong reasons.

Yeah, and I'm sure that at least some of the people who favor AB 1500 in California think it would be "doing something good".

There's a lesson here somewhere. ;)
