If I were you stay away from the Chevys and GM's with the duramax diesel duramax translates to Isuzu diesel very under powered

Yeah for me to go diesel truck I would have to swallow my pride and go ..... Dodge :( :(
Cummins diesel.
But I was thinking more turbo diesel sedan as in VW passat or Subaru. Both are fun to drive and handle really tight with good pickup.
For me to get another truck I have no choice but Z71; because of the conversion. Like you said underpowered there is no way I would do that to myself not after driving the rocket I'm in now.

One of my co workers came down with is he was pulling a 30 foot 5th wheel with a dmax couldn't keep up with me and my cummins and a 40 foot 5th wheel

Good luck on the Subie Diesel, unless you want to try to slip it across the border.

From the looks of things, Subaru has no plans on bringing their diesel's to the US any time soon. I've been watching and waiting for years, as they are truly amazing cars, but ...

No go. Again, regulations. <grumble>

Oh that sucks for the price and what they offer they handle great. But I'm ok with Volkswagen handling.

I can believe it!
I'm no fan of dodge -at all. But I give credit where credit is due that cummins is an unstoppable drivetrain! Power, torque the whole packages the fact that it has basically remained unchanged is proof.

Subaru's are really worth all the hype, rather like Provari's, actually. They're not necessarily the fastest or the flashiest thing on the market, but boy they do their job well.

Gave it to my mother when it started playing the, "I need money!" game every month or so. What is needs is a complete rebuild, but after over 100K extremely rough miles, I'd say it deserves one. She's going to take care of the girl and get her back going so she can carry the puppy around. Far cheaper than her big truck, that's for sure.

Would I own one again? Oh yes. I plan on getting one when I graduate. No questions asked. I love my Miata, but in the winter, not so much. That Subie would do 50-60 mph in mud, slush, ice, whatever. I used to laugh at the idiots in their jacked up trucks bottoming out on speedbumps. I never slowed down.

That was a hard habit to break when I went to the Miata, let me tell you. Years of "Speed bump, what speed bump?" to "OMG, it's a seam in the road!!!" was rough.

The vw's are cool great mileage on them

Yeah they did a great job making a family car run on diesel and behave similar to a sports car.
Driving one of those and driving a BMW are fairly similar driving experiences. Both have the wheels wider than average and pushed to the corners. Both are made with the autobahn in mind.
I love American sports cars for the raw unadulterated power; but sweet Jesus don't make me turn. For handling nothing beats a German engineered vehicle.

The nice thing about the cummins is most the same parts on the 5.9 fit the 6.7

Heh, Here's what I want for my next 'sport car'.

Subaru WRX/STI

I know, I know, Subaru, that's a station wagon. Uh, this thing, lets see, 0-60 in 5.1 and 0.9 g on the skid pad. On pavement. This thing also goes plenty fast on the dirt.

That's what I want for a graduation present to me.

Why not a brz? That thing is awesome!

It's not all wheel drive and if you bounce it off a rock, it'll break.

I live in Nevada, where 'paved road' often isn't. Especially if you want to go out and have fun driving. I bounced my Forester off lots of rocks. It didn't care one bit. That steel under plate is a godsend this far north.

Saw an SUV once without an under plate. That was just silly. Of course it was also four wheel drive. Meh. I love my all wheel drive. So different, especially in the muck.

All I knew about them was they look cool and it's a Toyota/Subaru engineered car. I thought from that it would have the celica handling and acceleration.

Celica doesn't handle anywhere near as well as the STI.

All wheel drive, when it's done right, really does make a difference. I've driven both 4 wheel and intelligent all wheel drive. It's like the difference between riding a horse and driving a car.

There's a reason Subaru has been the number 1 rally car for more years than I care to think of. It may not have the pure speed of the bigger (i.e. more expensive) cars, but it's far cheaper to run and has better handling than they do.
