Its getting cold in NY and car windows are beginning to have frost on them in the morning. Lately my defroster seems to not have been working. But I think it may be due to vaping in the car w windows closed. I do that all the time. Ive never had an issue w this before it started getting colder. I eventually have to wipe the windows on the inside because the defroster just doesnt get it done. But it doesnt seem like frost. It feels like a somewhat slimy coating. Anybody had something similar to this happen? Is there a solution other than rolling the windows down or not vaping in the car? Its cold, I dont wanna roll the windows down  Or do you think there might be something wrong w my car? Thanks for your input.

I've noticed the same thing in my new truck. It may be outgassing of the interior trim or it may be vaping. My new truck is a year and a half old with 12K on the speedometer, so it's not right off the lot.

What I notice is a haze when sun hits the windshield or headlights at night. It's like a soft glow that can soften road vision. It's not that easy to get the windshield completely clean. I've tried standard window cleaners, paper towels, blue shop towels, and microfiber towels with Windex. One thing I haven't tried yet is Invisible Glass. Standard window cleaner takes it off, but even though it looks clean in the day, at night you can see streaks that didn't buff off after cleaning. I've heard that some swear by using Windex followed by newspaper for taking it off.

Recommendations are welcome.

I noticed the same thing last winter. I waited till it got kinda "warm" and washed my windows then just vaped with the window open and bundled up.

I had a film on my windows that you could feel with your fingers and if you wiped it it would leave a visible smudge.

I wish i had a simple solution but alas, I do not. Best of luck!!

Clean your windows with coffee filters instead of paper towels if you want to eliminate the streaks. One of my biggest pet peeves is a dirty windshield when I'm driving at night.

Newspaper and warm water and vinegar (thanks Dad) still the BEST.

y'all wash your nasty cars!! :p

once a month here..inside and OUT.

I used to get this but; what I think is happening is that the vapor exhalents are adhering to glass that is already dirty. It's adhering to the particulate matter already on the glass. So, I got one of these:

Amazon.com: Glass Master Pro Glass and Surface Cleaner: Automotive

I cleaned every inch of interior glass, multiple times, until it was totally clean. The method I used was:

1. Glass cleaner sprayed directly on glass
2. Glass cleaner sprayed directly on glass
3. Glass cleaner sprayed on bonnet of tool
4. Distilled water sprayed directly on glass
5. DIstilled water sprayed on bonnet of tool

With this method you need to either have extra bonnets or wash they ones you do have between steps. The distilled water stages remove any remnants from the glass cleaner itself and leaves the glass streak-free. I usually do this once in the spring and one before winter and have had little to no build-up since.

The same with my windshield.
I wonder if I should stop vape at home. How thick this layer can grow with years?

We know with smoking, over time the walls do appear stained and give off a strong odor. I would think the particles exhaled from vaping will have a similar effect, probably just not as visible as smoking.

You guys are really overreacting to this issue. There was an excellent thread here before that dealt with the issue of the film left on windows from vaping in cold temperatures. There was a fantastic response from someone who discussed this with a NASA engineer who explained that the film was the result of the vapor hitting the cold window and sticking to it before it could dissipate, This isn't an issue in warmer weather since the inside of the window isn't cold.

I know I am not remembering the explanation exactly and I am unable to locate the earlier thread. There really isn't anything that we can do about this besides open a window or just clean the windows. Regardless, it isn't anything more than an annoyance.

Unless you keep your house very cold, the film residue on the car windows will never happen inside your house.

I hope someone can find the original thread!

There is one post on the first page w a picture in it. But i cant see it.

Images on ECF can come from different locations. They can be stored on the ECF site itself, or can be links to other locations.

In this case, the image is at imgur.com, others might be at photomucket, etc. My guess is that you're browsing at work, and your employer has blocked many of the "social" sites such as imgur, but not ECF.
