Lets simplify it:

  • mah (5200) is the amount of energy the battery stores
  • amps is the amount of current or energy flow a battery can put out (think stream vs river)
  • The lower the resistance (ohms) of a coil, the more current the battery puts out
You want a battery that can safely put out the level of amps your coil will draw

Do some research on ohms law to see how to calculate requirements based on battery voltage, resistance and current (amps)
Nice explanation Bob.

(Alright, hope I'm doing this right. Funny story, I logged into ECF first time in years for this, and realized I didn't even make It to 5 posts since 2013. I'm a bad bad comm. member guys :nah:)
Welcome back! Jumping in for a Thump is a nice way to do it, too:D

I've had the pleasure of running the cam r through the wringer for the past few days. This is the ver 2.0...not the final production model. I know the final version is a little smaller, a little smoother and a little more refined but this thing is amazing! I've got DNA200 devices and it's an incredible chip but I only use bottom feeders these days. Tom nailed it with this mod...the absolute best of both worlds. Anyone considering buying a CAM R will not be disappointed. Tom has added some features that you won't find on any other DNA200 devices available. This mod can be charged in about a half hour from dead using his connections. It takes about 3 hours using the USB. We're all familiar with Toms attention to detail with his atty work...well, he's carried the same standards into this mod. Filling and bottle swapping are simple....that's what I was worried about the most.
Great job, Tom and thanks for the test drive!

edited to add....I did have some minor complaints about this mod. It's my understanding that Tom has resolved everything I found lacking. Mainly ergonomics...other issues were in regards to the 510. Well, the 510 has been redesigned and Tom can re-post pics of the final case. By the time I voiced my issues, he had already worked out the solutions....this one's a winner.

Wow....can't wait to get my hands on the first batch of "Catfish BF Mods"....!
It's pretty cool blasting a big atty at 100+ watts with this thing. Not something I'd do all day but it's great having the option. Battery life is impressive as well....considering.

My son has been trying to talk me into trying a regulated mod but I've held off because I'm a bottom feeder. This is something I would like to try out though. I'm leaving for work but would like to ask, Tom, is it ok if I add myself to the list for the Cam R? I'm not sure how many your putting out. The list is at 41 people I believe. Also, and I know it's in this thread somewhere, I just don't have the minutes needed to look, how much? If I remember correctly it was pretty reasonably priced but I can't remember.

Thanks guys, happy to be here! :) After hearing about the awesome work Tom does here, how could I resist. My hubby finally agreed to upgrade his setup (I've been a real Reo pusher) so we're gearing up to buy our 2nd mod and something about the Thump really caught my eye, so I'm taking a chance with something new :)

Yes. There will be 100 or more made, but I will have to tell you the $300 mod is a distant memory. With DNA 200 boards ($80 each) and having these made of 7068 we are looking more in the $400-$500 range. You will see why when you open one of these up. No expense spared anywhere.

Thanks for answering Tom. Did you ever get my money order for the Rogue?
I did... It arrived yesterday, still in the envelope however. My goal is to finish all of the blowout attys and current orders tomorrow and Thursday and ship them Thursday. (Ex Pwheeler, his goes Friday by request).

The number, especially in the thousands, is usually the mah, which is the life of the battery, you generally have to sacrifice mah for amp rating in a given cell. The amp rating is generally going to be 20 or above in anything worth looking at. If a battery says 40 amps on it it's probably not a good battery just because there not really there yet so most likely the battery company is overstating the specs, I which case you would be wise to stay away. Having said that in a 26650 the green effests have been my favorite for a while. I don't like promoting effest but I have been really happy with the greens I believe they are 4200mah. Some of them will have a dual amp rating like 20/40 for example, this is pulse/continuous, another tricky thing to watch out for.
Hope this helps a little.

If anyone wants their 26650 to hold different cells lmk, I can open it up but it will make your button throw longer. I recommend sticking with the greens neway.
